★ Jess | 3071 comments Oh, and on the topic of narcissistic teachers,my year 9 teacher was sooo up himself, but you could tell he was joking...if that makes sense. Like on One Monday morning, we walked onto homeroom and he had his AFL dream team on the projector, and said "oh don't mind that at all...but seriously, look at that score! And that midfield rating!" little boastful stuff like that happened all year, it was hilarious!

gotta love hellish teachers!
I had the same teacher once for i think 3 years. Im primiary school (this is around the tip i developed a "chip" on my shoulder ..thye love that saying)

any way a friend and I got send to the headmasters office because at 10 to 3 we started humming marry had a little lamb...our teach broke down called us horrible little girls :S when we got to the office the next day we were told we were in trouble of picking on a girl who wasnt even in our class!

my high school was the worst we never had the same teacher for the whole year I had 5 different english teachers in yr 10...horrible school

Cathy | 123 comments Zut alors! other French speakers (or would-be speakers like me!!) I've been learning at a community college on Saturdays (this is my 2nd year) but I'm pretty terrible at remembering it - especially when put on the spot - I just go completely blank!

Cathy | 123 comments Bonjour Carmel et Sarah, ça va bien, merci! J'ai aller au le classe francais sur Samedi. (holds breath waiting for correction which is surely needed!!!)

No correction from me Cathy;D

message 263: by ★ Jess (last edited Oct 31, 2011 11:26PM) (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments I could be mistaken, but that should be "J'irai" instead of "J'ai aller", since you are using the future tense.
Also I believe there should be a 'de' between 'classe' and 'francais'.

message 264: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 123 comments Merci Mademoiselle!

message 265: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 123 comments Moi aussi!

message 266: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments pssshhh, having the language forced into you since year one-6 years old, (now 15) will allow you to not need such notes. I am, however, dropping it next year.

message 267: by alackofdignity (new)

alackofdignity | 2 comments i don't need notes either, but i'm more or less a native french speaker.

i'm learning Mandarin right now though!

message 268: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 123 comments I'm just so envious of the ability to speak another language! I only did a term of each of 4 different languages at school, but the few words I learnt at that stage still come back more easily than what I learnt yesterday. I know I need to work out a way to practice more, its just hard with work kids etc - I don't know how other people fit so much in!

I just loved Paris and I love cooking, so I dream of being able to go back to France and have enough comfort to be able to go to a cooking school or choose food in a market. plus as I said - it would be a really cool thing to be able to do!

message 269: by [deleted user] (new)

I know random sayings in some languages ... I can say the lobster is small in german...cant spell it tho and I used to know how to say I Love you in 13 Languages...all forgotten...thats what turning 18 does to you

(da klumer is klien...is the lobster one...i think thats how you spell it)

Brenda | 80479 comments Mod
Haha!! I was just thinking that Carmel;D

message 271: by [deleted user] (new)

I can totally see where I would need it hahah

message 272: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments If you think thats useful, my friend can say 'The dog is green' in mandarin

message 273: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 123 comments Funny thing - my nephew is fluent in Mandarin, which is unexpected when you hear him because he is white-blonde. He was on holiday in Taiwan in a not-very touristy place. Some local people walked past and said "look there's a big white guy" and he called out "yeah, a big white guy who speaks Chinese" ... they apparently got quite a fright and ran off!

message 274: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments haha understanding natives in other countries is awesome. My mum is fluent in Italian, and she and dad went all around Europe on their Honeymoon.
They were at a market in Rome, and after buying something, the stall holder said to his wife: "How much did we charge these suckers?"
And so my mum turned around and had a go at him :P

message 275: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 123 comments I'd love to be able to do that anywhere!!!

How many out there are having an unofficial 4 day weekend? Taking a "sickie" for tomorrow, or a holiday day? Has anyone got any special plans for the weekend?

We are going out for lunch on Saturday, but nothing else planned at the moment:)

message 286: by Mish (new)

Mish | 3602 comments No I didn't take a day off today. No long weekend for me, but the traffic was light this morning. Only took me 40 min to get into work compared to 1hour or more.

Nothing special on this weekend. We are renovating a unit which is almost finished. So will be there most of the time....cleaning up :(

Sounds like a lot of people had the day off in your area Mish, with light traffic...
Enjoy your weekend, the best part is you're on the home stretch, and the results will be worth it:)

It will be better coming back Steve...you'll gain a day;)

message 292: by Steve (new)

Steve | 1034 comments No, I lose a full day coming back. Which is why I leave on the Saturday and land on the Monday. I gain the day on the way there, but it means my Saturday ends up being approximately 40 hours long.
