Can't deny that Celine hated humanity (or at least his literary persona did). There's virtually no writer to compete with Celine for cynicism. And I adore him for it.
Life as it is, real and so dark. Biography of Genius who write about Foucault's clinic with colloquial, specific language, but with twisted mind for common people. Yes his is cynic and misanthrope however life have been so cruel for him..Masterpiece..I have read it several times..
"Don't mistake realism for misanthropy"I agree. That's a common mistake. BUT, there's no way Death on the Installment Plan is a work of realism. It's way too exaggerated. Celine didn't give a shit about anything that was good in humanity. He wanted to write about evil, greed, selfishness, and everything bad; and to exaggerate it to the point that it was so hilariously pathetic, it wasn't even threatening any more. Just a big, sad joke. If he believed that there was anything good in any part of humanity, it sure doesn't show in his writing. He was absolutely a misanthrope - and a fantastic writer, in my opinion.
PERSONALLY SPEAKING I AM MISANTHROP..LIKE MY FAVORITE PHILOSOPHER NIETZSCHE, BUT CELINE WAS DIFFERENT AS MAN..BECAUSE HE HAS SAW WHAT IS BAD INSIDE HUMAN'S..INSIDE SOCIETY..FRENCH..MAYBE THIS IS SOMETHING OUT OF AESTHETIC OF WORDS IN LITERATURE BUT THIS IS REALITY IN LIFE IN EUROPE, FRANCE..ON HIS TIMES..

It's a work of staggering misanthropic genius.
Celine did not have a happy life as I see it. He wrote about bleak reality. The misanthropic laughter filled book can't help but enlighten one.
