I don't have a problem with keeping up with my TBR pile. Mainly because I limit what type of book I buy, I think. Anything else I want to read I borrow from the library. Sometimes I do think it gets a bit overwhelming and I do have less time to read now, in part because of having more family obligations and also the electronic age. There was much more time to read before cable tv, personal computers and dvd's came out.

I've only got a few books in an actual pile as I don't like to buy anything too far in advance (paper or electronic). That being said, my wishlist is several hundred books long so....yeah, I need more time.
I would get depressed if my to-read list wasn't several hundred novels long. Either it'd be the case that I'd genuinely read all of the good books, I'd lost the ability to find new ones that looked interesting, or I'd just completely lost my passion for reading literature.I used to be able to fill a room with all of the books I'd bought but never read. It used to depress me that I'd never be able to read them all and I'd look at them every day and despair. Now I've made my peace with that and I'm just trying to enjoy the hobby one book at a time.
And yes, fantasy doorstops can be frustratingly long, but I wouldn't want them any other way. There are plenty of great shorter works still being written too.
ugh! yes! I totally know what you mean! I update my to read list every day trying to delete unnecessary ones, but I always try to restrain myself from adding books, limiting myself to 20 TBR books at a time and I never ever buy books when I haven't finished the one I'm currently reading, seeing unread books in my library gives me a panic attack. My sister reads trashy romance novels, which bore me to death, but she puts them on our shared book shelf and it drives me mad that I haven't read them, so I end up reading those too. I have a book related OCD. What makes it even more difficult is my need to venture out into other genres. Fantasy is my favourite but I always try to read a completely different genre every once in a while, which puts me behind on my TBR list. and don't even get me started on Epic Fantasies containing 10+ books! There are so many I wana start reading, like Malazan series but I'm just too frightened!

I must have some fear about stacks of unrea..."haha I just finished writing my post and then read your post.. I have the same exact problem. I cannot bear to see unread books, it drives me mad. I always buy 2-3 books at a time finish them off in a month then run back out into the bookstore wild for more :P.
More, more and more.....Just bought more...and I haven't read what I have!
I'll never believe book clubs help....
Well, yes, they do....help to have more.....to read.
;)
I know. My daughter got me a Kindle last Father's Day and I, "wasn't going to load it with unread books". I have. AND I'm still buying print books.
Haha....yes!Not only did I buy a paper book, while at the bookstore yesterday, I download an e-book, because it was cheaper.
I know. You see an E-book and it's $2.99 or $.99 or even free and you think, "yeah I'll get to it and it's only 'fill in the blank'".
