Félix (habitseven) It depends on the state in which you live. I was in a Napa club that sent bottles every month to Texas. When I moved to Utah, it was verboten.

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments They speak German in Utah?

message 53: by Félix (last edited Dec 23, 2010 11:57AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Which they? Who?

No, they speak one liquor/wine store per county, limits on alcohol content for mixed drinks, no drinks without buying food, and such stuff as that. And no wine in the mail. And when you drive across the border to Las Vegas and bring in alcoholic beverages you were acting illegally and subject to having your vehicle confiscated.

Félix (habitseven) That's correct, oh Dutch one.

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Utah sounds very strict.

Polygamy is no longer legal there, is it?

message 57: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Not legal, no. Not gone, either.

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments If you can't have a drink now and again, I guess you have to do something to unwind...

You have to feel bad for that girl who posed for the "She may look clean BUT" poster.

message 67: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments She may not even have posed for it, necessarily. Could just be a stock photo.

message 68: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Even worse - she didn't sign up for that kind of abuse!

No wonder blonds get a bad name.

message 70: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24778 comments Mod
Why are there so many derogatory blond shades? Dirty blond, dishwater blond...you never hear gray-haired people being called dirty grays, or brown-haired people poopy brunettes, toiletwater brunettes, dirty browns.

Félix (habitseven) Barb wrote: "I bet some of those women are actually pretty with their natural hair colour, and without the 10 pounds of make-up & fake boobs. Oh and if they ate something ... without immediately throwing it up."

They probably all have MBAs from Harvard.

message 72: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I think "mousy brown" is sometimes used as a byword for forgettable hair color and, by extension forgettable personality.

message 73: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yes.

message 74: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Yes, there's that. Also, Hefner is apparently 84 years old (according to Wikipedia). The woman around whom he is draping his left arm looks like she's about 19. It's pretty creepy.

message 75: by Jonathan (last edited Dec 23, 2010 05:50PM) (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments After his first divorce, in 1959, Hefner remade himself as a bon vivant and man about town, a lifestyle he promoted in his magazine and two TV shows he hosted, Playboy's Penthouse (1959–1960) and Playboy After Dark (1969–1970). He admitted to being "'involved' with maybe eleven out of twelve months' worth of Playmates" during some of these years. Donna Michelle, Marilyn Cole, Lillian Müller, Shannon Tweed, Brande Roderick, Barbi Benton, Karen Christy, Sondra Theodore, and Carrie Leigh—who filed a $35 million palimony suit against him—were a few of his many lovers. In 1971, he acknowledged that he experimented in bisexuality and moved from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Lobstergirl | 24778 comments Mod
Yes, the Playboy mansion in Chicago was cut up into luxury condos. (But you can still sense the bisexuality.)

message 77: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments They're bisexual condos?

message 78: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Jonathan wrote: "They're bisexual condos?"

Don't ask, don't tell.

message 79: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I'm not sure that was ever Hef's philosophy.

Félix (habitseven) I was thinking of that, too, j. You beat me to it.

message 82: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Full Sail's Session Black Lager. I'm not normally a lager fan, but this is very tasty, and comes in a cute little bottle.

Larry wrote: "If you call that living."

If they were all brunettes, I would.

message 84: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments That is a dark beer Sarah! It looks like it could be tasty.

message 85: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments It was quite good. Too much alcohol to be a true session beer, though, so I'm wondering why they called it that.

message 86: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Now I'm in the mood for a beer. They frown on that at work, and HS track meets, so it may have to wait awhile.

message 87: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments A while like hours? Or a while like days?

I would like one of those right now.

message 92: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Me too.

I also just realized that I still have a wine-bottle sized Dogfish Head Theobroma waiting to be tasted, so that's coming with me this weekend. Or dinner tonight. Hmm...

message 93: by Jammies (last edited Apr 08, 2011 07:22AM) (new)

Jammies Sarah, what's a Theobroma in beer? I know theobromine is the chemical in chocolate that kills dogs, but I have no idea what it means on a beer bottle label.

message 94: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Absolutely killing me Sarah.

But keep em coming.

message 95: by [deleted user] (new)

Somebody drink on my behalf tonight.

message 96: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Jammies, Dogfish Head is known for making some whacked out beers. This one:
"As per the analysis, Dogfish Heads Theobroma (translated into 'food of the gods') is brewed with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs (from our friends at Askinosie Chocolate), honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds). It's light in color - not what you expect with your typical chocolate beer. Not that you'd be surprised that we'd do something unexpected with this beer!"

message 97: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments It came out in late fall, but I'm assuming it hasn't skunked yet. I forgot I had it.

message 98: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments They had a show on Discovery or History channel about how they thought up and made their different beers. It was pretty interesting.

message 99: by Sarah (last edited Apr 08, 2011 07:39AM) (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Yeah, I saw a couple of episodes of that show. He's an entertaining guy, and I like their sense of history and their experimentation, even though some of it is kinda awful.

message 100: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Yeah the chewing corn and spitting it into a container episode was not inspiring.
