Don't Judge a Book by It's Cover

The first time this happened to me was with Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews. I grabbed book 1, Magic Bites, even though the cover was less than attractive, because the back blurb sounded interesting. That series has been one of my favorites since then.
All the time. Although I'm such a hypocrite. I gave my sister the Cassie Palmer series and told her how great they were and she looked at the cover and was like, "Really?". I was not impressed. Even though I do it too. PNR, urban fantasy and YA books, I think have the nicest covers.
When I read it, it was before all the (justified) hype about Hunger Games, and the cover didn't exactly scream that the book would become one of my favourite series. And the blurb, I thought the whole idea was a bit far-fetched. But I read it anyway and I was surprised how believable the book was and obviously I think it's amazing now!
Yeeeaaahhh. Um well, I thought I would really like this just because of the cover, how crazy is that? Well long story short, I didn't like the book very much and even though all the covers in the series are pretty, I'm not going to read them. Even though I was tempted just for a nice, pretty set.
And Steph, I love Kate Daniels series, definitely one of my favourites!!
I almost picked up
the other day just because I liked the cover so much.Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs is one of my favorite series and also one of my favorites for her covers, although I usually prefer covers that don't have characters on them. Not too many out there like that though...
Oh yeah, I started the Jane True series by Nicole Peeler because of how cool the cover was and it's one of my favorite series now!
I picked up Sojourner for .99 on my kindle app. The cover is awful but the book was pretty good. Definitely a 'don't judge a book by it's cover' example.

Have you picked up a book because the cover called to you, but found yourself admiring just that ... the cover, not the story? Or visa versa? Picked up a book with a less than attractive cover and fell in love with the story?
