Mamamichelle | 163 comments Ok, so first off I was just recently introduced to Diana Gabaldon and the amazing world of Jamie and Claire. Once I started the books, I could not put them down. I have read all 8 (yes, even Exile) in about 1 month! Now I have to wait until 2012!!! How do you handle it?

message 2: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) I started the series about 9 months before Echo came out and I thought it took a long time to wait for that. My fiance's mother started the series when it first came out and I don't know how she was able to wait so long! I can't wait for the next one to come out. But at least it gives us enough time to re-read all the books before it comes out.

Mamamichelle | 163 comments My friends and I are gonna start having "Outlandish Nights" I know it sounds stupid, but I love knowing that there are other people that feel the way I do! You invest so much time with these people that you feel like you know them! I miss them!

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) I know exactly what you mean. I've read the books twice through (Echo only once) and I can't wait to read them again, but because they are so time consuming I have to wait until I'm not in school or else my homework would never get done. I got my friend into the Outlander series and now I'm trying to get my sister into it. My fiance's mom and her mom both read the books. My fiance's mom was the one that introduced them to me. She suggested them but I never looked into them then for Christmas she bought me the first one. When I finished it I went out and bought the rest of them that night. Luckily, Barnes and Noble wasn't closed yet or I would have been very sad. I believe she also sent the first three to another daughter-in-law. I don't know if she read them or what she thought, I'll have to ask her.

What are you going to do during the "Outlandish Nights"?

Wan (wanwaddell) | 564 comments Ha...ha.. Michelle. Welcome to our world. This is truly a support group for J&C obsessers. The long wait is torturing & I can't handle it on my own that's why I ended it up here.

I'm trying to get my frinds to read the series so we, also, can have an Oulander/Outlandish Night. Talking Jamie and Claire over a glass (or two) of wine (or soda for the non-alcoholic drinkers). That would be lovely.

Mamamichelle | 163 comments Well, we are probably going to start with a couple of drinks...lol...Then start with outlander and just talk about some of our favorite parts...I got all of my books on Amazon, and they were so cheap! I keep trying to get other people to read, but they are kind of put off by the lengthe...get over it!

message 7: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) That would be so fun to do! I don't have many people I know around me who have read the series. This site has definitely helped in that department. I was a little shocked that I could read some of the books so quickly because of their length. I went through the mass market paperback version of The Fiery Cross in two days. All I did was read nonstop.

Wan (wanwaddell) | 564 comments Actually, I'm kinda doing it right now. chatting with you guys with my Merlot. That counts, right?

message 9: by Mamamichelle (new)

Mamamichelle | 163 comments Yes Wan, that counts...My kids were so happy when I finished! Do you guys have any good suggestions on what to read now?

I think so. I don't know anyone near me that is currently reading the series, so i turn to GR also. It's nice to have company in obession;)

And Wan you are not drinking alone, I have a nice full glass of pinot right here. Cheers!

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) After reading Outlander I never felt the same about other books. lol. I couldn't find a series that touched me or pulled me in as much as Outlander. I've heard a good one is Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati because it features some of the Frasers. I bought it but I haven't read it yet.

message 12: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 564 comments Nothing will compare to the Outlander in my opinion. However, I did enjoy:

1. the Wilderness Series by Sara Donati
2. Karen Marie Moning's Highlander Series which is more Romance but with the twist.
3. KMM's Fever Series

Many people recommend:
1. the Bronze Horseman Series - I have the sereis but have not read them yet
2. Lord John Gray Series by Diana - this one is a story of LJG. It seems to pararell to the Outlander - this is on my 2B read next
3. I'm about to start the Lords of the Underworld Series -- many of my Goodreads friends seem to enjoy

Then, of course I visit this site more than one time a day. This will keep you going. Oh, don't forget to check out the book 8th Excerpts thread. There are some good stuffs there.

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) I've read the first of the Lords of the Underworld Series, and I loved it! I'm going to be starting the second one in the next couple days.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I agree with Wan, nothig compares to Outlander. I read the Earth Chidren series (starts with Clan of the Cave Bear) and Gone with the Wind.

I started Outlander when Drums of Autumn was only in Hardcover, it was in its first year of publication. I'll tell you, it is torture!

Jessica I would definately recommend the bronze horseman, and gone with the wind. Both really, really great books!

Mary G. (nonometoo) | 319 comments Rereading them will keep it going for you. Because, you can slow down abit, you're not in such a hurry to find out what happens {you already know}. I was amazed at the details I picked up. DG puts so much information in her writing just one reading isn't enough to absorb it all. Also, the audiobooks take the books to a new level. They are awesome.
I do try to read a couple of books inbetween rereads or listening to the series again. These books really have ruined me for others. I love DG's style.

Latinlandish | 376 comments I finished Fiery Cross about a month ago, and decided not to buy the next one, because I have so much work to do and I have an office at home, which makes it really hard to avoid the temptation to just read all day!! To get my daily dose of Jamie and Claire, I am reading all over again.Yesterday I started Drumms of Autumn. I loved Voyager. I have read the scene of the reunion about 20 times. It is one of the best scenes that I have read in the series. It makes you feel like you are right there with them. I have been noticing all the red hair people around, and had never payed attention to them before!!

Mamamichelle | 163 comments Drums of Autum was one of my favs! I honestly could not stop reading...Book 5 was the worst for me...poor Roger!
