Hello, I am jumping in to say that anything by David Gemmell does it for me!
And then there are the happy discoveries - so it's not just the scary stuff..

no way is it just scary stuff! i'll stay up reading pretty much anything, but usually if it keeps me up all night even after i've put the book down, it's scary. that's just for me though.
