Okay a lot of people have mentioned this so I am going to start a thread for book swapping & book wishing. Keep in mind that it's all independent between you and the one youre swapping with. I don't think it's my place to set up rules for that. But here you can post books you have that you're willing to send off or swap and post books that you are looking for or wishing to get your hands on. You can do a straight across swap or just send off a book to someone who is wanting it. Like I said when you see a match you and them can work out the details.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I'm looking for "Gluten-Free Girl" by Shauna James Ahern!

I'll make up my "willing to swap" list soon!

Kristen | 0 comments I am looking to pick up some Margaret Atwood books. I have never read her but would really like to, if anyone has any that they are trying to get rid of. Also looking to start reading Stephanie Meyer.

I don't own a ton of books, but I have a lot of John Grisham books that I'd be able to part with.

What a great idea, Tera!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I'm also looking for "Quilting for Dummies" the 2nd edition w/a pic of a quilt on the cover! (The 1st edition doesn't have any pics on the cover)

Mandy Petrocelli i have a few books i'm done with and willing to swap.
i also am looking for copies of Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot .

i have done 2 book swaps in the past few days (sending out a couple books i own), and it has been amazingly easy. unfortunately, the books i want are wildly popular and wanted by everyone else, too. so if anyone out there is willing to part with or lend their copy of Catching Fire . . .

Julie (julmille) | 391 comments I am looking for Sarah's Key. I will check my pile of books, but I know I have Bridget Jones Diary to swap and Eat Pray Love.

Nell GR has a great bookswap feature - find it under the explore tab. Have those of you looking for books checked there? If the book's not listed, you can put it on your wishlist and get emailed when it becomes available. (It's first come, first served.) Likewise you can list books that you are willing to swap.
I've seen Sarah's Key there several times and received The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks thru GR bookswap. The receiver pays postage (other book swaps have the sender paying to give books away). I've been using the feature since last November and have received some really good books all in great condition including new releases like Caleb's Crossing (free), My Name is Mary Sutter and The Widower's Tale.
It's a great way for book lovers to give and receive books. Check it out.

all the book swaps i have done have been through GR. both the books i want are on my wishlist. but "Catching Fire" is the 3rd most requested book, and "The immortal Life..." is in the top ten most requested (with over 350 requests each). with that kind of competition, i'm more likely to get it from my library before it comes up on GR.

Viola | 1014 comments I have a copy of The Gargoyle. It is very unfortunate that I did not enjoy the book, because my copy is signed by the author for "Chicks on Lit". Let me know if you are interested in this. Receiver pays for postage. Only open to Chicks on Lit!

Wow! I didn't know how lucky I was to get "The Immortal Life..." I saw it listed and requested it a few weeks ago. GR bookswap doesn't have a waiting list.

Dimity | 87 comments Can you swap galleys/ARC on the GR swap? I went crazy using swaptee (now swap.com) last year but they've made a lot of changes so I've been thinking of checking out the GR swap feature.

Yes you can swap ARCs on GR bookswap. I've received two and have two more on the way. Sometimes the ARC is one of the book edition choices. If not, there is a FAQ in the sender section of Help about how to send an ARC.

Jennifer W | 2175 comments Goodreads' swap is being shut down. The notice about it has been up for a month, but I only just saw it when I went to add another book to be swapped. Do any of you use another site's bookswap feature where the person who wants the book pays shipping? I don't want to have to pay to send off the books I no longer want. Otherwise, I'll probably just donate books in the future.

Elizabeth (Alaska) A thread in the GR feedback group has this suggestion as a site where the receiver pays the postage. I believe there is a small maintenance free. I have never used the site, but others seem to like it.

I switched to www.booksfreeswap.com in early October and have found the site easy to use. The Administration is very responsive and welcoming of GR swappers. They have added a feature that allows you to import your booklist from GR to BFS. Postage cost less per shipment. There is a 25 cents per month maintenance fee instead of a surcharge on each shipment. You'll find a lot of GR members there and a forum topic for GR swap orphans.

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I signed up for booksfreeswap this morning without realizing there were fees. I rarely requested books, I used goodreads to unload some that I didn't want. I may use booksfreeswap to do that since it's free.

I am very bummed about bookswap shutting down. I also used it to send out way more books than I requested. I don't think I will sign up for booksfreeswap. The monthly fee (evn though small) and the fact you have to load $10 into an account there before you can request a book turns me off.

message 25: by Nell (last edited Nov 01, 2011 04:18AM) (new)

Nell It was a little off-putting to see 25 cents taken from my BFS account this morning BUT the postage cost at booksfreeswap is significantly less than GR. The fees at GR bookswap were hidden - a markup on every swap. It's only now that I'm using another swap site that I see how much GR was adding as a surcharge. BFS is upfront with a small monthly maintenance fee ($0.25) if you receive books. Shipping them to others is free. I shipped a MM paperback for $2.41 yesterday. (Shipper pays but it's printed on the label.) Average cost is $2.90 - that's almost $1 less than GR bookswap's average postage per swap. BFS maintenance fee comes to $3 annually - equivalent to the mark-up on 3 GR swaps.

Nell Update - Booksfreeswap has stopped charging a monthly maintenance fee. It was 25 cents a month. Some folks decided not to switch to this swap site when GR bookswap closed because of the montly fee. If you're interested the site is www.booksfreeswap.com

Does Booksfreeswap allow you to trade ARCs? Someone sent me a few during a blog trade. They were officially published months ago but I know I can't swap them on Paperbackswap.
