Mallory chuckled, nodding. "Right. That too." She chuckled, peeking up at him through her blonde/brown eyelashes.

"Sure," he replied. Gently, he pulled his arm away from his grasp and stood, offering his hand to help her up.

Mallory ran one hand through her hair, and immediatly grasped his hand. She was up on her feet with little effort. "So... What's your mom like?" She kept her hold on his hand.

Ivan was quiet for a moment, determining how to respond. "She's um..." He thought for another moment. "Gone."

"Um... For a while. Like, since I was six," he said, raising his eyebrows. "Why?"

Mallory shrugged. "I was just wondering how you didn't remember her is all."

"Oh I see," he mumbled. "Yeah, I don't remember her much."

"How come? I mean, you only left when you were six..." She trailed off in obvious confusion.

"Erm... My mom..." Ivan paused, searching for a term, though came across none, and continued, "died when I was a baby."

"Ah. I'm so sorry! Were you put in an orphanage?" Mallory was totally sucked in to her friend's life story. Whether he was telking it like one didn't matter.

"Well, kinda. It was more like a boys' home," he mumbled sheepishly.

Mallory frowned. "You mean like for boys that get into trouble?" She for some reason could not picture her friend there. It was like picturing Chaumelle in a store that didn't hold top brand fashions.

"No, not like that. For like, orphaned boys," Ivan explained. Or attempted to, at least. "I guess I got in trouble, but not like that."

Her faced cleared up immediatly. I knew Ivan wasn't like that. Stupid of me to even consider... She shook her head as if to clear her thoughts. "What kind of trouble are you talking about?"

"Taking stuff, staying up too later," he said, shrugging. "That kind of stuff."

"It doesn't really matter now. I'm at camp year round so I don't have to worry about them," he explained.

She slowly nodded, but the lines in her forehead refused to smooth out. "Okay. Good." She squeezed his hand gently. "Maybe I should start staying year round."

"Well, it's up to you. I mean, do you like going home during the year?" Ivan asked. "'Cause we can always IM each other or something."

Mallory shrugged. "I guess it's okay. But I'm afraid for their safety." She looked at him, hope shining in her brown eyes. "Can you IM at Camp?"

Ivan chuckled. "Make sure to specify the right cabin," he added.
