I just finished this book last night and I really enjoyed it. I think my reading approach was a lot like Dvora's, in that I sort of glossed over the building/engineering details in order to enjoy the human side of the story. I also pulled out one of my undergraduate texts -- History of Italian Renaissance Art --to read the relevant chapter along with the book. Seeing pictures of several of the works referred to in the book was illuminating--especially the bronze doors by Ghiberti and Bruneleschi in the competition.
