Kelley (kelleyls) | 23 comments I just finished this book last night and I really enjoyed it. I think my reading approach was a lot like Dvora's, in that I sort of glossed over the building/engineering details in order to enjoy the human side of the story. I also pulled out one of my undergraduate texts -- History of Italian Renaissance Art --to read the relevant chapter along with the book. Seeing pictures of several of the works referred to in the book was illuminating--especially the bronze doors by Ghiberti and Bruneleschi in the competition.

Theresa Ramseyer | 28 comments This week's NOVA - 2/12/14,C26.1 at 8PM, and 2/12/14, C26.2 at 11 PM CST - is "Episode Detail: Great Cathedral Mystery - Nova
Examining the 15th-century, Filippo Brunelleschi-designed dome that crowns the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, Italy. Known as the Duomo, it consists of four million bricks, is taller than the Statue of Liberty and weighs about the same as a cruise ship. Included: bricklayers build an experimental "mini-Duomo" using period tools and techniques." - from TV Guide online

(I thought it was on a weekend night at 11 PM, CST, but now can't find it.)
