Can anyone refresh my memory as to who Duncan is in book one and what is his relation to Gellis(sp)? I was reading The Exile and he comes up and I sorta remember him, but I cant place who he was in Outlander. Thanks in advance.

hmmm, got me stumped...but then exile does cover some of the story before outlander, so that could be it...IIRC, it starts when Jamie is in France correct?
I don't remember him being mentioned in The Exile (I read it pretty quickly) but maybe it's a different Duncan. I know that Duncan Innes was in Culloden and then Ardesmuir (sorry about spelling) with Jamie.

As it obviously is mentioned in connection with Geillis it might be her husband Arthur DUNCAN.
I agree with Lotte, I believe the only Duncan I remember being mention in The Exile is Geillis' husband. It would make a lot of sense since you said he has a connection with Gellis.
Yeah, its definitely Gellis's husband in exile, but he also came through the stones. I wasn't sure if he was mentioned at all in outlander, its been awhile since I read that one. I know that Gellis's last name in Outland is Duncan but I thought in the 1700's she was married to a preacher. I was just trying to figure out why Diane included him in the exile and if it's important that he was able to come through the stones. The only Duncan I can remember is Duncan Innes.
Geillis's husband did not go through the stones in Outlander and I do not think Kenneth is Geillis's husband either. In Outlander Geillis killed her husband for the trip through because she believed that she needed blood to make the trip. That is also mentioned in Exile. I believe that Kenneth is one of her cronies from the National group that she belonged to.

In DIA (in 1968 as Gillian) she killed her 1st husband Greg Edgars before going through the stones.
I really don't remember any person with the "first" name Duncan in the first book. As Teryl stated in message 2, the only person with first name Duncan was the one-armed Duncan Innes.
SPOILER !!!! I thought that Kenneth was the dead skelleton that Claire found in Fiery Cross, and had the teeth treated by modern dentistry. Later on , Ian found his little Diary, written with a ball point (by the quality of the ink, they could see that it was not 1800's writing). And he was friends with that crazy herbalist (forgot his name) in Paris (DOA).
