Diana (oceanwaves141) | 21 comments What's your opinion, is it possible that people have blown the whole religion thing out of proportion?

message 2: by Diana (new)

Diana (oceanwaves141) | 21 comments Politically correct means to avoid doing or saying anything that would offend someone of another religion or gender.

message 3: by Courtney (new)

Courtney hm.. it does annoy me sometimes, like using gender neutral stuff

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments Yes, there is. I notice it more with race, like how you never know if you should say Indian or American Indian or Native American. However, it does seem to come up with religion as well. I think that people tend to be so careful about others' beliefs because of how hostile people may become when their beliefs are questioned. Also, some may just respect others beliefs. I don't think it's good to consider religions beyond questioning, though. That is a bit dangerous.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments Yep, I finally got around to checking my group invites. :)

Courtney what do people in Canada call African Americans?

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments I wondered the same thing about England the other day.

message 13: by Diana (new)

Diana (oceanwaves141) | 21 comments I believe it's alright to say anything you want that reflects your religion, and it's reasonable to expect people to accept you. I can understand not wanting people to be racist, but why can't I have an opinion? Why must there be no religion involved in government anymore?

message 14: by Diana (new)

Diana (oceanwaves141) | 21 comments If I expect others to respect my religion, I would also do the same for them. This means making a law that fits all or most other religions. What I am saying is it is alright to allow people to know/tell people that you personally do not support something.

That is just scary. Why do you want religion involved in government? Respecting your religion is one thing, but making laws based off it, even if they may be against others' beliefs, is just wrong.

*Mrs. Brightside* There shouldn't be a law about religion.

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 965 comments Or based upon such.

message 18: by Cody (new)

Cody (rolinor) well we all know (at least if you know history) what happens when laws become to intertwined with religion. one word Inquisition.

message 19: by ♥ Rachel♥ (new)

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 965 comments I was going to mention that, but thought it might be too extreme of an example to begin with :P

message 20: by Diana (new)

Diana (oceanwaves141) | 21 comments If you re-look at my comment, you will read that I also said we should fit all religions (within reason of course) with our laws. I just meant that you can let it influence your opinions. Just because you have a certain opinion about things doesn't mean that it is going to affect the laws that are made. For example, in Canada, not all the members of Parliament are going to be Christians or Muslims, or Jews, etc. So even if you allowed in these opinions, it won't harmfully affect the laws of a country as long as each culture is represented fairly.

It's not to extreme it is what can has happened. though I can see what you mean when you say it is a bit extreme.

In that case, it is involved in government. Just listen to Bush talk.

Of course it can has happened...but still, it is an extreme example, and America would have far to go before we get to that level of discrimination.

message 23: by Cody (new)

Cody (rolinor) Yeah I can see what you mean their.

message 24: by Courtney (new)

Courtney i don't think the government in most first world countries discriminate

message 25: by ♥ Rachel♥ (new)

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 965 comments I agree :)

message 26: by Courtney (new)

Courtney I always hate it when muslims are discriminated against, i mean what if a muslim ran for public office ?

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments I hate it when there is discrimination, but I also hate it when a discriminated group is made harder to criticize. Some people (no one here...I'm just sort of ranting) seem to think that because there are people who think Muslim=evil terrorist, Muslim doctrine is off-limits for criticism.

message 28: by Courtney (new)

Courtney I always hate it when people criticize Obama just because of his middle name, now I'm not the biggest Obama fan in the room, but only his policies should be praised or critisized not his name or personal background

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments I know. As wonderful as democracy is, it's sad to see how people can have their political opportunities limited because of their religion and the religion of that majority. :( I would imagine that an atheist would have similar problems. I wish people could just look beyond religious differences.

message 30: by Courtney (new)

Courtney I'm pretty sure that some christian labeled polititians don't believe in a god they just label themselves christian in order to be elected

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments That wouldn't surprise me, unfortunately. :(

message 32: by Courtney (new)

Courtney ^huhh?

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments Here you go: http://www.thewriterstale.com/scr.html

I would particularly recommend The Waters of Mars. Seriously, it's on of the best episodes so far. Midnight and both parts of The End of Time are quite good too.

Why do you want them?

And these are legal. They were released as a promotion for the book of one of the main writers on the show.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments No, I don't know where you could buy one. Sorry. :P
