I read that Joey W. Hill one that was free or 99 cents recently. I think "Max" was the name of the subbie hero. It was pretty good but, yeah, not sure I'd make it a habit.
I think Violet is right. JWH is a great writer and I always rate her books highly, but it's mostly because of the writing and storytelling rather than the Domme thing. That's odd, I know.
I've only read one other book by her. Again, I can't recall the name of it. So far I've liked Cherise Sinclair better in this genre. I get a better sense of chemistry between the characters.
CS is my favorite in the genre, too. Though if you want some laugh out loud funny books, go with Sophie Oaks' Bliss Colorado series.

And there are a lot of them, too. Great characters! The series overlaps with another of hers, Texas Sirens. Those are funny but a bit more serious; Bliss is just damned funny! ENJOY!

I see you ended up liking "If Only", Dhes.
I've been reading Jennifer Ashley's "Shifters Unbound" series almost back-to-back. I usually try not to do that but there's always an excerpt for the next book at the end of the one I'm reading and ... gah! I can't stop myself.
Anyway, if anyone here hasn't read Jennifer Ashley, you should. Historical -- the Mackenzie series -- and this shifter series. I can vouch for these.

I just saw your Shifter review. I keep meaning to read them, but always get caught up in the next great read, or review books.
And yeah, If Only ended up a 4 star read. Very entertaining!

I liked all the main characters in the book (If Only), and I'm glad it finally put an end to the villains of that one plotline. I wanted to see them ended once and for all, so that was nice.
Oh! I just got "A Christmas to Remember" from Netgalley. Gonna bump that one up to next. That'll give my shifters a break for a day. ;D

So far it's quite good!

I read the KA short and it was very sweet. I so hope Landon gets a story. He's wunnerful. ;D
I'm reading the one that comes after it now. The one about the woman with the baby and the lonely guy. I'm enjoying it. Totally pulled in.
I'm always a little reticent about reading anthologies because the shorts often disappoint, but I think authors are making more of an effort now. I've liked more than I've disliked. And I've found some new authors to read, too.

Are the stories tied to series or can they be read as stands alones?
I'm looking toward to PC's MacKinnon Christmas novella!?

I'm looking forward to that one, too! Love to visit with the MacKinnons.
I finished the story in the anthology that came after the KA short and I ended up not liking it as much as I thought I might. It didn't live up to the promise of the beginning. Since I got the book for review, I will read the rest of the stories, but I had to put it down and start the next in the JA shifters series. I've got another book I'm reading for review, too, but I just have to have some choice reading to go along with it. ;)

I just finished Dare to Love and I loved it. Something confused me, though, so I'm doing a re skim. It might be because I'm sick that I got lost and I don't want to write the whole review until I'm sure. It's minor, though. Still a 4 or 5 star read.
Is it a 50 Shades clone or does it finish in the one book?
I'm sorry you're sick. I'm still getting over my cold. Ridiculous! Coughing and congestion. Not nearly as bad as last week but still pestering me. :6

The next book is Alex's story. This was Ian's story.
“Thank you so much for reading Ian’s story. The Dare to Love series will continue in 2014 with Alex’s story – Dare to Desire..."

And thanks! I feel like crappola. Have to go down the hill tomorrow. If I don't feel better by then, I'm hitting Urgent Care.
Okay. Maybe it was something I ate because after that one time, the nausea stopped. Now if I could just stop coughing so I could sleep!!!!
Hope the sickness is abating, Dhes. I've been sneezing and coughing a lot today, which is ticking me off. I've been fighting this thing for two weeks. I call foul.
In any case, here's the update on me and my shifters. I started reading Tiger Magic, which I believe is the fifth on in the series, but there were all these new matings with established characters that I hadn't expected so I stopped that one after about 35% and picked up the box set of novellas. I've read two of them and I just bought another one that I know takes place before Tiger Magic. It's nothing deal-breaking, it was just annoying me that these things had happened and I hadn't read them.
So, I'm about to read the third one that I hope will bring me up-to-date. But I might take a break and read a historical romance. I've been in the mood.

That sucks, Bean! I hate feeling like I missed something!
Hey, did you get a case for your paperwhite? Are you loving your paperwhite? Can you listen yo audio books?

I'm okay with my Paperwhite, but I think I like the Kindle Keyboard set up better. I don't love the touch screen. It's so sensitive I often turn the page when I don't mean to, and there have been times I've gone forward pages and pages and it's really screwed me up.
That said, I do like the Paperwhite technology. I like that I can read it without having direct light and the brightness spectrum is pretty good.
I did buy a case for it. The one they sell from Amazon. It's nice and sturdy and it's only about $40. I got a purple one. :)

Nice! The reason I asked is I'm thinking of getting one for my 10 year old grandson for Christmas. I'm done with gifting video games. He's a voracious reader - just started The Hobbit - and so I think he'd love having his own eReader.
So now I'm reading Captive: The Forbidden Side of Nightshade, and the world is incredibly intriguing. But, I've been peeking at reviews and people are saying that they wish they had read the YA Nightshade series first because of the world building that's already explained.
I hate when that happens. Do you feel like you need more world building? You could always look it up on wikipedia. That might give you all the info you need without you having to read a whole (YA - yuk) series. :)
Hey, Best Buy Deal of the Day is a Kindle Fire HD 8GB for $119, but we're not going to get it. The beauty of going Paperwhite is no gaming temptation for the boys.
Good call. We got each of our kids a Fire a couple of years ago and DD never uses hers DS is using his right now, but only for games. DD hates reading on the Fire so that's out too. She doesn't much go for mobile device gaming. So that was a total waste. :p
In reading news -- I got this anthology: A Grosvenor Square Christmas -- because it was on sale and I kept thinking I was seeing that I'd already had it. Well I did. I think I may have read it before, but I've read so many historicals that I'm just not sure. I've started the Shana Galan story, and I was certain I'd read a Shana Galan before, but again I wasn't sure. Turns out I've at least read all the stories about the heroine's three sons. Now I'm thinking maybe I read their stories because I read this short in this very same anthology.
This is how cluttered my mind is right now. ;D

It was at least on sale for cheap. I'm a member of this thing called Book Bub and they send me a daily email with links to different Kindle books that are really cheap. I've been introduced to some great new authors that way.
Remember when I went all crazy about this post-apocalyptic story with big rig trucks in the Siberian tundra? Book Bub. A blessing and a curse (to my TBR).
That reminds me I need to read some more of that author's stuff. She went NA which I don't really like, but her older stuff is historical and that's what I'm in the mood for now.

Eve Silver aka Eve Kenin. I might actually reread the post-apocalyptic book, but I'm very sad that she hasn't continued the series. It needs one more book but she seems to have abandoned it for NA. The first book is great, though. It's like Firefly (she said she was inspired by the show) meets Ian Mackenzie. Great heroine, great hero. I loved it.
Anyway, getting further into this short I think I may not have read it before. And I don't see how it would have inspired me to read the sons' books because I'm not loving this story all that much. Too surface.
But the sons' stories were pretty good, IIRC. Can't remember the names of the books, but they're by Shana Galan and the heroes names are: Julian, Bastien, and Armand.

I've read so many great books over the years that a lot of other stories fall short. There are very few dependable authors out there. Off the top of my head - Pamela Clare, of course, is always a sure bet. Kristen Ashley, Sarah MacLean, Jennifer Ashley, Eloisa James, Sophie Oaks, Cherise Sinclair...
I haven't read Sophie Oaks, yet. I've read all the others and liked most. I won't buy another Eloisa James, though, nor will I accept one for free. She's on my personal "never buy" list.
I've really liked the Sarah MacLean series she's doing now. It just feels so long between books! Agree with KA, JA and CS. PC is a given. ;D

So, I went back to the Christmas anthology that has KA and Jill Shalvis. I got that from Netgalley so I owe a review, so I'm going to focus on that.

Believe it or not, I don't want to read it. Or I should say, I don't want to request it and "owe" a review. *sigh*

Do tell!!!!!!
Sophie Oaks writes some funny stuff. Hot, but LOL funny. The Bliss Colorado series is the freakin' bomb. She's like the queen of menage!

I'll send you a DM on the Eloisa James thing.
You recommended Sophie Oaks to me and I'm going to check her out soon. I need to clear some books. Definitely learning to go slowly on the Netgalley stuff. I just wanted to read the KA story and then I realized I kind of committed to reading the whole thing and writing a review. Duh.

And anthologies can be tough! You might have one or two good books, and three or more sucky ones. Those are hard to rate!
