I remember that, Marian.
Yes, I can't wait to see this movie! I loved the book My Cousin Rachel. I agree Renee, I think I liked it a bit more than Rebecca. :-)
Marilyn wrote: "Yes, I can't wait to see this movie! I loved the book My Cousin Rachel. I agree Renee, I think I liked it a bit more than Rebecca. :-)"For me thou, the suspense was in not knowing what to make of the title character.I do hope they don't change the movie.
I have the book in my cart. I don't know if I want to pay full price, although it isn't really expensive.
Skye wrote: "I have the book in my cart. I don't know if I want to pay full price, although it isn't really expensive."The paperback here Skye is 23.99 and the ebook is pretty much 10 dollars you might say.

Yes, I would hope they wouldn't change that in the movie! Not long ago I watched the old 1952 version of it with Richard Burton and I thought that one was good!

Hello! can't remember if i have posted but I LOVE gothic romances! I have an entire shelf on my bookcase just for them. Dorothy Eden and Phyllis whitney are my two top favorites. I wish they were easier to find at the bookstore but thankfully have found them on thriftbooks.com and amazon. I am excited to be part of this group that has discovered these hidden classics.
Welcome, Diana; we are a very small, but friendly group and everyone has helped one another find old gothic classics.
Hi Diana,Welcome to the Gothic Group. It's nice to have you on board !
What a coincidence - my favorite Gothic novelists are also Dorothy Eden and Phyllis Whitney; although I think Victoria Holt and Jane Aiken Hodge are very good too. I hope you'll share some of your favorites with us.
A couple of days ago, I ordered a massive amount of Gothic novels from amazon, all of them from the 60's and 70's. This time I've stuck to authors I know and like, but next time I'm planning on trying out some authors that are new to me and have been recommended to me via this group (such as Florence Hurd). The only drawback to living in Europe, is that books always take such a long time getting here. When I'm really in the mood for Gothic romances, I just can't stand all that waiting !
I know you are abroad; and it must cost a fortune for shipping and handling or maybe not. I have never ordered on Amazon before; I am so curious about which authors/books your ordered, too.

I ordered over $100 worth of old Gothics on Amazon and it was like Christmas when they came! :-) I have just started trying new authors. I've read one book by Florence Hurd and one by Anne Maybury and I've just started one by Monica Heath. It's fun discovering new Gothic authors, or new to me anyway! :-)
I meant to add that Virginia Coffman is great too! I've read her whole Moura series now! Highly recommend it to any Gothic fans!
It sounds wonderful, Marilyn! I love all, and Monica Heath sounds so familiar to me. I guess that's the way to do it, too. I am so glad you enjoyed the experience. Don't you just love these writers, too?

So far I have enjoyed the new authors I've tried!
I am so glad; her books on B and N cost 29 and up , apiece. That must be considered collector's items. I read that book, Marilyn.
Skye wrote: "http://www.mysteryfile.com/Gothics.htmlThis is a fairly comprehensive list."
Thank you Skye. I think I have looked at this list before. It's interesting that the writer of this article thought the reason for the Gothic genre's downfall was basically because they were clean and were replaced by the bodice ripper genre! As a matter of fact, that is one thing I love about them!
Me, too, Marilyn; I got the Moura book on Saturday, and I was shocked because the moment I saw the cover, I knew I had once had the whole collection. It is so sad that when quite a few of us have decided to revisit or discover these treasures, they are now marked up.

I'm trying to get as many as I can before they get even more expensive to buy!
That's a good idea; I keep checking a few sites, but the books I want are either 'out of stock' or too high in price.
Welcome Diana! So awesome to see more Gothic fans here! Btw, I think we need to share pics of our Gothic collections one day! And start a Facebook Group called Gothicked!
I don't have a phone that would take photos, but I'm sure everyone else does, and I don't have a FB account ( my choice, of course), due to privacy issues ( I taught and being anonymous protected my sense of self). I sure would love to see your collection, though; I gave away all of mine when I needed to move, and now I am just longing to re visit all the books that made me happy when I was younger.
Michelle wrote: "Welcome Diana! So awesome to see more Gothic fans here! Btw, I think we need to share pics of our Gothic collections one day! And start a Facebook Group called Gothicked!"I'd love that! I will have to take a few pics of my books. A FB group would be fun. :-)
Michelle wrote: "Welcome Diana! So awesome to see more Gothic fans here! Btw, I think we need to share pics of our Gothic collections one day! Out of curiosity I tried uploading a quick shot of three of my Gothic novels I've bought recently and it worked! Can anyone else see them by going to my account page and clicking on my photos? That might be a good way to share pics of our collections. :-)
Skye wrote: "Yes, they are there and lovely, too."I'm glad it worked! I store all of mine in plastic paperback book sleeves so they might look a bit shiny in the photo. :-) Don't you just love those gorgeous Gothic covers? :-D
Marilyn wrote: "Don't you just love those gorgeous Gothic covers? :-D ..."In a word, yes. Women in nighties fleeing from one-lit-window castles makes me happy!

Me too! :-D
Skye wrote: "Yes, yes, and I do believe that is one of the very reasons they are now marked up as 'classics.'"I think so too Skye. I've noticed shopping around for them that the hardcovers are often cheaper than the paperback editions! I think it is because it was mostly the paperbacks that featured those lovely covers!
Evidently, Marilyn, and had I been smart, I would grabbed them up last year before this occurred. The covers are truly works of art.

Marilyn, I cannot see them because your profile is private except to friends. That is a good idea, though, since I am also not on FB.

I'm glad you told me that Bobbie as I didn't realize only friends could see it. I changed the settings so everyone should be able to see it now. Can someone let me know if it's visible?
