I can give it a try. I already have like... 6 or 7 books picked out for January challenges already. I can try to squeeze it in. If not than February. We could make the trilogy into a six month challenge? :) That could work. That gives people time to get/read them if they stumble across it late. Any takers? I can make it up now. :) I am getting to be as evil enabling as Steph LOL.

ETA: Challenge/Read-along made. You can find it under "Pace yourself"

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I forgot to post my little thrift haul:

In hardback-
The Vampire Armand (The Vampire Chronicles, Book 6) by Anne Rice The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

In paperback-
PS, I Love You by Cecelia Ahern My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

That Hunger Games cover is so cool! I own a few copies and none of them look like that! Is that an e-readers "cover" or the actual book?

message 307: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Frampton (natframpton) its an actual book cover :D

Oh I know. I seen the movie for "PS I love you" and I know that My Sister's Keeper is going to be sad. I don't know when I will get to them but they are nice to have. I have SO many books to read (paper and ebook) Yet I still buy more. I can't help it. The 4 came to a total of 6 dollars. Can't pass that up.

message 312: by [deleted user] (new)

Steph I read Don't Die, Dragonfly (The Seer, #1) by Linda Joy Singleton back in 2009 and really enjoyed it, the whole series is really very good. After reading the first book I had to go get the rest just because I was so addicted to find out what was going to happen. Hope you enjoy it!

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Great purchases! I splurged, I bought a second ereader (Nook) to read library books but I was loving a book I had checked out from the library so much as an ebook that I bought it and the next one for my Kindle: A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin , then I imported from spain Game of Thrones for my husband. His first language is Spanish and he usually reads my books in English and it is not an issue, but I thought since the boook is 800 pages I would get it for him in his native language. I can't wait to discuss it with him. I was surprised I couldn't find it in Spanish in anywhere in the US.

message 315: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments That was nice of you, Regina. I'm sure he'd enjoy such a long book in his native language. I'm surprised it wasn't available in Spanish in the US too. Plenty Spanish-speaking citizens, you'd think they would. Enjoy your new toy!

I have Infinite Days planned for this year. I would love to know what you think of it when you get to it. :) That cover drew me in... :)

message 317: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments That is a very interesting cover. Off to look for freebies too (not sure why I do, I have so many darned books to read!)

message 318: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I will, AV. Not sure when I'll get to it, but I'll share my thoughts once I do.

You can't really tell in the tiny shot, but the f in the title is bleeding.

LOL! I'm the same, Regina. Hubby is always asking, "Why are you looking for more books when you just got # already and haven't read them?" The only answer = Hi, My name is Stephanie, I'm a book addict. LOL! Good luck on the freebie hunt!

message 319: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Steph it is a sickness! I am convinced. :) At least you are honest with your husband about it! That is probably a first step somewhere.

message 320: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LMAO!! He has no idea the extent of it. But, there's really no hiding it entirely. Thank goodness for eBooks though. ;)

message 321: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Definitely thank goodness for that! I used to have my books shipped to my office at work, but after awhile he noticed them building up in our library area. There definitely is no hiding it, eventually the hubbies will glance at the credit card bill.

Luckily I'm in charge of all the finances, LOL, no checking up on the credit cards here. It would be a battle to get him to glance at a statement. As long as all the bills get paid in full every month and there's money in the account, he's cool.

Though he did notice the dining table resembling a mountain hill pass with all the books. And that doesn't count the ebooks, hehehe

LOL. I am in charge of the finances too, but there have been random moments when he looks at a bill and asks, "What are all these Amazon charges?" And then that is the moment of truth. Also, now he has stated to read on my Kindle! Darnit. Kinda hard to hide my books from him there.

That is funny .... how long did it take him to notice the pile of books?

Sandra | 25908 comments Regina wrote: That is funny .... how long did it take him to notice the pile of books?

It's the table we only use if we have a lot of guests but walk past every day, so I'm sure he noticed, just didn't mention it. LOL.

But just before Christmas I had to clean it off - took me a couple of days and there were books everywhere.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Went to visit my Mom at Christmas and her local Borders didn't make the yearly cut. They were only down to about 40% off everything so far, but they had lots of their bargain books for $1. Combine that with a $50 Gift Card I had and I really cleaned up. :D

40% off buys:
Rebel (The Blades of the Rose, #3) by Zoe Archer Venom (Elemental Assassin, #3) by Jennifer Estep Blood Law (Alexandra Sabian, #1) by Jeannie Holmes Haunted by Your Touch by Jeaniene Frost Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane Double Cross (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #2) by Carolyn Crane The Chick and the Dead (Pepper Martin, #2) by Casey Daniels Hunting Julian (Gatherers, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank

$1 books:

Walters Red Hot Holidays (Ellora's Cave) by Shelby Reed Good Girl Seeks Bad Rider Ellora's Cave by Vonna Harper Wrapped in Seduction by Lisa Renee Jones

message 339: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Good ones, Daffodil. Many look familiar, some I recently purchased myself. If you want to buddy-read "The Disillusionists Trilogy" let me know. I've got those 2 as well and would like to read them soon. But, they have just been tossed in my Leaning Tower of TBRs with all the others.

How are you liking "Vampire Memories" by Barb Hendee? See you bought #2, was that b/c it was only a buck or b/c you were on #2? Either way, hope you're enjoying it. I like that series, but the reviews cover the range.

message 340: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I bought an ebook of Counterfeit Magic (Women of the Otherworld) by Kelley Armstrong , the graphic novella that Amazon isn't sending me. Stupid small publisher and their limited editions. I pre-ordered that bugger too. Grumble, grumble.

message 341: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Yeah, that's a ripoff. Pre-orders should be the first to be filled. Amazon shouldn't have allowed more pre-orders than they'd receive.

message 342: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Agree absolutely. Even BD does it too. I've been left hanging a couple of times, had to wait for the 2nd printing. Not Happy!!!!

message 343: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I wouldn't be either. Just STOP taking pre-orders if you can't fill them all?! Doesn't seem to hard to understand.

message 344: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Exactly!!!!!!!

message 345: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Hey Steph! I'm not sure when I'll get around to starting "The Disillusionists Trilogy". I have one of those leaning towers too!

I have to confess, I only picked up the Hendee book because it was a buck. I thought I might be able to track down a copy of the first one somewhere, but if I can't I'm only out a dollar. LOL. I haven't even heard anything about this particular series.

message 346: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments No worries. I'm not sure when I'll get to it either. Just a thought. If you find yourself picking it up, let me know and I'll join ya.

I figured that was the case. Seems to be a little known series. I happen to really like it. But, some friends did not. Maybe you can find #1 at the library.

message 347: by Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (last edited Jan 06, 2011 08:59AM) (new)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments Picked this up in a bargain bin for 4 dollars. In hardcover! :)
The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman

Ordered:
Reckless (Reckless Series, #1) by Cornelia Funke (in hardcover)

On Kindle:

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #2) by C.S. Lewis Prince Caspian (Chronicles of Narnia, #4) by C.S. Lewis The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia, #3) by C.S. Lewis The Magician's Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia, #1) by C.S. Lewis

(I only need The Last Battle (Chronicles of Narnia, #7) by C.S. Lewis to complete the set. I have all in paper and have been buying them on Kindle as well to preserve the very old copies of the books. Also my boyfriend is considering buying a Kindle and we can share books. :) He wants to read Narnia. )
Also Portal (Portal Chronicles, #1) by Imogen Rose for only 99 cents! (I didn't have enough gift card money for the last Narnia book LOL) I have heard good reviews for Portal. I also picked up some more freebies for Kindle.
