@Arushi re blog - thanks for reminding me about the Polidori story I keep meaning to read it.

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments If I were ever going to get a tattoo, it would definitely involve a book. But I'm thinking maybe a quote, not images.

I like the stories behind tattoos as well.

A quote is a great idea, Claire. Actually, one of the next tattoos I have planned will be a quote from Sun Tzu's The Art of War.

message 305: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I only have one tattoo, a black outline of a daisy on my thigh. Daisies are not my favorite flower anymore lol But I still like it in it's simplicity

message 306: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments My current tat is an anklet made up of Chinese characters that spell out my name and then give its meaning. Very self absorbed, but its something I can't get over. So I need to find something that won't lose its importance to me with time, for the next one. No luck yet :(

message 307: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments See, that's what's stopping me from getting a tattoo! For one, I hate needles and my parents would kill me. And my tastes tend to evolve over time. I don't know if what has relevance to me now will continue to be meaningful 30 years later.

message 308: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments What I don't understand is tattoos people get of their bf/gf. I mean, what if you guys break up (which is likely to happen!)

message 309: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments LOL... My sister and I both went with the "better to ask forgiveness than permission" mentality on this one...
And it took me 2,1/2 years to finally decide it was what I wanted.

I have a a Dragon sitting in Borromean/Trinity Rings.

My sister has a very simply but pretty butterfly on the back of her neck, and a poem in ancient Mongolian on her calf.

message 310: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I just went on the tvtropes website and looked up the hollows and it's SUPER long, but not updated since book 8.

message 311: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Claire - My parents kinda freaked too.. but I was halfway across the world, and my words were 'so just fyi' rather than asking for permission. But since I decided a few months before I got it, they had seen the design and even 'agreed' (more like resigned themselves to it) by the time I actually got it.

But yeah.. you have to find something that you will forever be okay with having on your skin, and in a way representing you. That's why I can't think beyond my own name.

@Zeenat - I have a friend who told her boyfriend she'd only get his name if he died. As long as he was alive, there was scope of a break-up, and that's what happened a year later.
Someone else changed "Red" (bf's name) to "Redemption" after break-up.

message 312: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments *sigh* They're just a little too permanent for me. And while there are some things that I'd have no problem arguing with my parents about, a girl has to pick her battles and this one definitely isn't worth it.

message 313: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think you're being smart Claire. If you're at all hesitant, or have any doubts whatsoever, I don't think you should get a tattoo. Forever is a long time.

I remember a friend of mine joking that she wanted to get "Mad, bad and dangerous to know" tattooed somewhere. Then she imagined herself going to the doctor or hospital when she was 90 and having to show this tattoo. What's cool and funny when you're 20 probably makes you a laughing stock at 90!

message 314: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Yeh that's tricky; a friend got one 15 years ago (a big rose on her upper arm) and now wishes she had the money to get rid of it. She just doesn't like it any more and its hard to cover up in the summer.

message 315: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Lannister That's exactly my reasoning. Forever is a long damn time. Plus, as my grandmother so succinctly put it, "things sag." Things I put on my body at 19 aren't going to be in the same place come 90!

Depends on what body part you get a tattoo. ;-)

message 317: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments I have two on my back, both meaningless designs. My best friend is an amazing artist and one of them is one of her doodles I found on her floor. I didn't want anything that could be defined in case I lost interest later in life.

So does anyone in this group has piercings?

message 321: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments I have 5 in my ears and my nose.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Just my tongue. Technically, one in each ear, but I never wear earrings.

message 323: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments That's funny, I don't ever take my earrings out. They are little hoops

message 324: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I only have my ears pierced but I don't wear earrings any more either.

No matter what they're made out of, or how expensive they are, if I don't take earrings out at night my ears start to get irritated. I'd usually forget to put them on again in the morning, and eventually I just stopped wearing them altogether.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I hated sleeping in earrings. Then there was a time in college when an earring back got stuck deep into my earlobe and after I got it out (man did that thing hurt) I just quit wearing them all together. I can never remember to put jewelry on anyway.

message 326: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Ouch!!

I don't wear a lot of jewellery and many days I don't wear any. I do have a fondness for bracelets and I try to remember to put one on in the morning but I think I forget half the time.

I don't have any piercings and don't wear any jewellery apart from my wedding ring. It's not really my thing.

message 328: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments I like jewelry, but I hardly put it on. My earrings are small hoops that can't stab me, so they just stay there. I do put on a necklace when I bother to change out of my pajamas. I can't really wear things on my fingers and wrists at work as i'm constantly putting on gloves. I rarely even put on my wedding ring.

message 329: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Just my ears :) I used to have a second hole in each ear, but they closed up

message 330: by Cat (new)

Cat (shelfmotivatedbooks) | 157 comments Only my ears but I hardly ever wear earrings. Whenever I do wear them now my ears get irritated really fast so I can only have them on for a few hours.

message 331: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments I just have the usual pierced ears. Usually though I don't wear earrings. No big reason, except I got bored. If I do wear them, its coz of some occasion, or I am going out.

I do always wear a ring that was a present from my parents. And usually a chain with a pendant of my favorite God.

message 332: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I just have my ears pierced. On any given day I'm usually wearing a favorite bracelet, earrings, and high school class ring.

message 333: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I do wear my wedding rings, but only occasionally. When my husband is being nice ;) lol jk. My ring snags on stuff so I don't wear it at home, and sometimes forget to put them on.

message 334: by Anna (last edited Nov 13, 2012 03:09PM) (new)

Anna | 1680 comments My ears are pierced - though I went back to wearing my original gold studs with safety backs years ago when my kids were small. My wedding ring is an eternity band so its easy to wear & I keep my watch on all the time as well. Cheap necklaces are my jewellery treat!

message 335: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nuttkayc) | 1 comments I feel over pierced, sometimes. I've got four earrings in each ear, one in my cartilage, a nose stud, my wedding ring and its "keeper" (The ring is tungsten carbide and not resizable) and my childhood monogrammed ring. And then.... I'm getting my tongue pierced tomorrow. :P Never enough? (And then... there's the tattoos.)

message 336: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Nicole - Wow! Thats cool! I've always wanted more than one piercing in each ear but am too chicken. What's a 'keeper' ring?

message 337: by Zeenat (new)

I like hot weather. LOL

But it's freezing cold here.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I hate cold weather. Winter sucks. It's been getting cold here, but the temps keep fluctuating. I had to scrape frost off the windshield this morning. I hate that.

message 340: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments I hate cold weather!! I want to live where it stays warm all the time!

message 341: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments So I just had to take my daughter to the doctor because she was chewing on her hair and twirling it around her tongue in class. A piece got stuck tied around her tongue and was cutting off circulation to the tip. Her tongue was so swollen and white that you couldn't even find the piece of hair. It looked like she had a piece of cauliflower on the tip of her tongue. Seriously........How the hell do you accomplish that?!! Even the doctor couldn't stop laughing

message 342: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I hate the cold too. It's been chucking it down all day here. :(

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments @Gin How in the world is that possible! Bet she won't do that again.

message 344: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments I wouldn't have thought it was possible either. The doctor was gonna have to cut her tongue to get it out, but finally the hair broke.
I guess there really is a reason to not chew on your hair!

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments She got lucky! If he would have had to cut her tongue, that could sting for who knows how long.

message 346: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments I know and she is performing in a play this week, so she was really worried.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Glad it worked out for her.

Let's send all the cold to Zeenat! :-)

I'm glad your daughter is okay, Gin.

message 349: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments OMG Gin, I'm glad your daughter is okay! now that we know she is okay, that is HILARIOUS!!

It is always hot here. 100 degree temps are the norm. and I'm a cold weather person. So send it all here! :)

I miss wearing winter clothes . .. and snow. REAL snow!

message 350: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Gin, I am glad your daughter is okay, but seriously how did she do that? It is seriously funny (in hindsight for you i'm sure)!

@Everyone - I'll share the cold with Zeenat. Fork it over. I agree with her... I WANT SNOW!!! Damn.. I could literally taste the cold, a friend painted such a good picture on the phone.. and now I really miss it. Plus I wanna wear knee high boots and pretty jackets!
