Ahh poor Maggie!...uhh lost track on he sisters Llaph but sounds like they're keeping you busy!
@Lannister and Sarah Lol! we still have a couple of days of entertaining! Have escaped for a few minutes!
I'm back! For a little while, anyway. It was my job to get the house ready for Christmas. This was the first year my Dad didn't help at all. He usually helps my mother out with Christmas cards and wrapping presents but for some reason he didn't. How was everyone's holiday? Christmas is always my favorite time of year. I don't mind all the preparation.
I've been curled up on the couch in my spare time re-reading Harry Potter. It's lovely.
Today was after Christmas shopping. Lots of fun!
I don't celebrate Christmas and spent the evenings watching the latest season of The Walking Dead.
Lannister wrote: "LOL, that sounds like a damn fine Christmas to me!! :D"Sounds like a plan. I spent it finishing the last season of Burn Notice. In the day I did go for lunch.. but it was a teeny bit to celebrate Christmas and mostly coz the friend I went with is getting married.
Speaking of marriages... its like everyone around me has decided to tie the knot.
November - A cousin uncle
December - Family friend
Jan - My own freaking cousin (the shopping involved has already given me too many headaches - it will be another week long wedding)
Feb - Childhood friend (I see even more shopping in my future.)
Just needed to point out the madness of it somewhere it would be taken in absolute stride :)
My husband was sick all day on Christmas. Which was nice in it's own way, lol, because we didn't have to stay at his parents house for very long on Christmas. lol We didn't get the chance to tell them the happy news though, we'll be doing that tomorrow.Arushi, that is a lot of wedings! thik you will get a break at all? lol
One of my shelter dogs got adopted yesterday! He had to wait three years and he now has an awesome family! I'm so happy! :-)
@Arushi Weddings are exhausting enough when they're only one day long. Good luck!!@Zeenat I'm sorry your husband was sick! But I'm glad your Christmas wasn't ruined.
Congrats Sarah!
My Aunt and Uncle are up for New Year's and I'm very excited. I don't get to see them very often so it's always a treat.
Happy New Years everyone! We finally told Gene's family the news, everyone is happy and I came out on FB the other day. Tonight I plan on sleeping cause hubby has work all night long. lol
Happy New Year Zeenat, and everyone else in the group! Hope 2014 is a great one. Congrats on 'outing' yourself, Zeenat. I'm glad the news went down well and it was a nice time to tell them. :)
No idea why this popped into my head today, but I wonder if KC will announce a Valentine competition this year. She usually starts it about a month before, so if it's happening I hope we'll hear soon. Though she might be too busy with Masks to think about it.Just wondering if I can get another chance to pair off Mircea and Marlowe some way LOL! :D
Need to blow off some steam...I have to wonder what parents and schools are teaching kids these days. (its no wonder I chose to home-school)
My daughter just came in from playing outside, because one of the boys in the neighbourhood decided instead of giving her a "fist-bump" he'd punch her instead.
Now I know what you're thinking (I had the same thought - What did she do?)
Well, apparently nothing. Verbal or Physical.
First off - the reason I took notice, is she's generally an accident just waiting for a place to happen, so it must have really hurt for her to cry.
Once I'd ascertained that they hadn't in fact been fighting, I stormed out to confront the little brat.
And he KNEW he was wrong, cos he saw me coming, and tried to hide behind his friend.
I asked if they'd been fighting - all responded no.
Had she hit him first? - again all negative responses.
At this point his friend tried to tell me that he was trying to apologise when she ran off.
I mean really??
I'm not a huge advocate of "You don't hit girls" - simply because I've met some who actually deserved to be smacked back - but really? Just because??
WTF?? When did we get to the point that boys just punch girls because, why not?? Or to be funny and look macho for their friends?
I seriously wanted to just smack him! And then ask how he liked it. HUFF - thankfully I have slightly more self control.
What ages are the kids, Jax? I'm wondering if it's this idiotic mentality that guys mess with girls to, apparently, show they like them or demand attention at least (it doesn't usually go as far as punching, but shoving and pulling hair are common enough.) Not sure if your kids are teenagers or what? But either way, what an arsehole!! You should go pay his parents a visit and see what they have to say.
Sometimes it's a tragedy that there are laws against smacking smartass little f*cks!
She's 10.And sadly I don't think its a "I like you" kind of thing. The influence of friends seems to be increasing - it initially started with just being nasty - but kids are, and I'd tell her to ignore them and just come home.
I usually don't get involved, as they need to learn to 'fend' for themselves,
however - when it becomes physical - well...
That's awful! Kids do need to stand on their own, but she's only 10. When things get to be too much for her to handle, it's better to step in. Good luck!
Yeah, I think 10 is probably too young for guys to start getting 'brave' with girls. Jeez, the thought of a ten year old girl getting punched for no reason makes me so angry. You must be absolutely livid! And it can really destroy someone's confidence. At least he knew what he'd done was wrong if he was hiding from you, not that it's much consolation. :(
Something my dad did earlier this week.We were all eating dinner—my mom, Angie, and me—my dad had finished and went to get his stuff ready for his shower. He tends to inhale his food, sits and watches us all eat, and then goes off to take his shower if there isn’t a convo going about whatever.
My dad comes out of my parent’s bedroom, and asks my mom, “Which pair of these underwear of yours is it okay for me to wear since I have no clean pair?”
…
My mom tells him that they are in the washer and to go check his suitcase because there is a new package in it, from like when we went to California last year I think. My dad tends to never really un-pack his suitcase if he can help it for some reason.
She had to repeat herself because of course my dad took out his hearing aids. He finally gets what she is saying and in a shocked voice says, “I will not use those! That suitcase is my ‘running away from home’ bag.”
Angie and I just said that he is really a secret agent and it is his go bag in case he has to leave ASAP…. That is a better thought than thinking that my dad has things prepared for running away from home, right?
LMAO! So your dad is a secret agent who likes to wear ladies' undies!! Wait a minute ... maybe your dad is Marlowe?!! Does he write poetry? I'm coming to visit, just in case. :D
I'm back at college and need to readjust to how insane my roommates are. I love them, but wow they're weird.
I am back!! And my cousin is finally hitched!!! Whew!!! I swear you all are right... weddings are tiring. LOTS of fun but really tiring! This one was a week long affair. @Zeenat - belated congrats on 'outing' yourself :)
@Claire - I am trying to think of people crazier than us.. and then living with them. I think I am a little overwhelmed at the idea. So impressed with you.
SNOW DAY.Too bad I woke up at 8am anyway, because the winter storm gave me such a headache I can't sleep.
I was productive though, and stayed in bed for another 1.5 hours re-reading Tempt the Stars.
OMG Guys. So I wrote out this AWESOME review of
and forgot to save it. Yup my computer had an automatic update and I lost it. I WAS SO MAD. SO MAD. I refused to touch the computer or any new books until I got the review written. lol that was a couple of days ago. So, I'm behind on everything reading related. In other news, I'm in second trimester! Yay, that much closer to having a little reader in the mix. They say baby has hearing around 16 weeks. I'm still debating what I want to read to him/her first... Dresden Files or Harry Potter? :P
Apparently even after they are born, babies don't understand words enough to matter--the reading is more for cadence and tone of the parent's voice. lol
Speaking of Dresden, if you look on the page for Skin Game, someone has posted a transcript of JB reading the first 3 chapters. It looks interesting! And even so, it's the principle of the thing!
I know this is going to make me sound so young, but I found Harry Potter when my mom bought it at a school book fair and started reading it to me. I was in kindergarten at the time.
@claire:Oh yes the MP3 of him reading that excerpt was awesome ... I think that the link is on the board somewhere. Maybe JB thread? It was a youtube I believe.
@Zeenat:
I always heard about talking to the spawn in the tumtum. I am sure that you aren't supposed to yell or sound scary ... I think it is like when talking to a dog. That sounds bad, but they pay more attention to your tone than words. lol
I also heard play music, classical is a good choice. Well, I think that is better than like christian death metal yanno?
On a side note: next month I am going to a birthday party for a friend's soon to be 3-year old. I have nfi what to get him. He is seriously spoiled, his family on both sides have some money, and has like everything. I was talking to my sister about this ... I said a drum set to be sarcastic. She informed me that he got that last year for christmas. Seriously ... wtf? I should find something extremely messy since I can't get noisy.
Claire wrote: "Speaking of Dresden, if you look on the page for Skin Game, someone has posted a transcript of JB reading the first 3 chapters. It looks interesting!"I heard the whole thing. Have you heard it? I'm curious about (view spoiler)
Llaph, get him something edumacational and/or annoying to the parents lol.
@Zeenat (view spoiler)The temperature plummeted today in DC. When I woke up in was 9 degrees outside. Not fun to walk around in, let me tell you. Five minutes outside and my face was burning it was so cold.
Temp here in Texas ... 70 degrees ... 40 degrees ... 60 degrees ... and back to like 70 degrees. When I looked @ forecast last night....Oh, and it is supposed to snow tomorrow ... maybe.
It is supposed to be in the 20s tonight and might snow tomorrow. Did I mention that I live in central Texas (near San Antonio)??My dad tried to say, at dinner, that my mom and sister can start their shifts at 11 o'clock to go outside and run his car for a few minutes every hour so that he won't have to wait or scrape ice in the morning when he goes to work.... He usually leaves around 6:30am. My mom and sister are going into work later than their normal times.
I am just glad I bought some gloves last year and have an electric blanket. I get cold eaiser now that I lost a lot of my insulation. Which reminds me of a tweet I favorited from Elizabeth Hunter:
@E__Hunter: Just saw the viral video of ice crawl in Minnesota. The next ice age is obviously upon us. Nice knowing you, skinny people. Bwahahahaha!

Get well soon Lannie!! *sends Marlowe to take care of you*
By the way, I don't think I've mentioned this before but since October I have been running a fortnightly newspaper (the 5th and 20th of every month). Its something dad started and gave me to handle so I am the editor.
I've been reviewing books in my editorial... and in the upcoming edition (5 Feb) its going to be the Dorina Basarab series :D I feel so giddy about it right now.. its kinda silly... but still pretty happy :)
@Lannister:It has been both here. I heard an ice cream truck the other day. The temps are crazy like 40 one day next day 70 then 40 again. (that's F for you weirdo ppl)
That is pretty cool Arushi!
@Lannister:I know how you feel sorta--got all snotty last week. I felt like crap ... till I started mainlining sudafed and zirtec.
It is either the weather or one of my family members--I rarely leave the house. (as my 4square account can attest to lol)
Just remember caffeine and milk are bad if you gots a stuffed up head and have to worry about that kind of thing. Caffeine helps make it and milk thickens it if I am even remembering right.
Thanks guys. I think I'll live. Just ...! :DLlaph, what's this crazy talk about no caffeine? Do you want me to die?! :O
*Presses a cool cloth to Zeenat's forehead*Who would you like me to send round for a head massage? Mircea's good at getting rid of pain. Or LC. Failing that, Marlowe can just explode your head, but I'd only recommend that as a last choice! :P
Can't you send the half incubus? I'd like Casanova... except he'd whine the whole time... ;)I feel much better today, apparently I was dehydrated. lol
Glad you're feeling better. :) Also, I think Pritkin would be a terrible nursemaid! I want SYMPATHY when I'm ill.
@Zeenat:That is what ball gags are for....
If I get dehydrated my body tells me and I recognize the signs now. I think that is why I am part camel now--I drink a loooot of water. So no more headaches or feeling like crap or the other signs I get ... drink a lot of water it is good for you! I think caffeine also dehydrates you, not as bad as alcohol though.
@Lannister:
Yanno, I have never really got the have to have coffee mentallity most people have. I don't even drink coffee. Hrm, now a days I don't drink much caffeeine at all to be honest, wow, I am weird.
