And considering how hard your feet get dancing for hours each night...
For me though the 3 inch heel feels like a flat!
Hadn't danced in a while, and when re-starting and putting the dance shoes on, I felt like they should have been higher! :D

OMG I do!! I'm not sure if it'll be any good with my cooking/baking, but it would be fun to try!

Gin | 323 comments Damn, I really need to stop working weekends! Did you guys at least save me some chocolate?!

message 155: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Don't worry Gin, I hid some chocolate :) We'll share. I am also working a little on Sunday.

@Lannister - Cool! Here you go. Will you share a picture if you make it?

Cake
2 ½ cups cake flour
2 cups sugar
¾ cup vegetable oil
2 ¼ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon salt
4 eggs
1 cup whole milk

Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Put the flour, sugar, vegetable oil, baking powder, vanilla, and salt in the bowl and mix until the ingredients are blended together.
Then mix on high for a minute.
Add 1 egg at a time and scrape down the bowl after complete.
Next add milk and scrape down the bowl again.
Grease pans, bake for 25min roughly and cool completely.

Icing
3 ½ cups icing sugar
½ cup of butter softened
¼ cup of milk, I prefer half and half
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon lemon zest
2 tablespoon lemon juice

Mix the butter, lemon zest and vanilla together, making sure all the lumps are gone.
Add sugar ½ cup at a time. And when mixture is drying out add a bit of milk, make sure to start and end with the sugar.
Mix for about 2 minutes.
Add in lemon juice.

Sauce
½ cup water
¾ cup sugar
12-18 ounces of fresh or frozen raspberries
And preferred thickener. I have used cornstarch in a slurry or gelatin.

Combine sugar, berries, and 1/2 cup water in a pot and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and cook till sugar is gone. (10 min about)
Take and cool, once done place in a blender or magic bullet and mix until smooth.
Pass through a strainer to get rid of seeds.
If too runny reheat and add thickener.

After you make the cake you can shave some milk chocolate over the top.

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Oh thanks Arushi! This looks amazing! I can feel my arteries clogging as I read. :) I've added it to the recipe blog thing that I use.

It'll be a few weeks before I'm likely to make it, but if it doesn't look awful, I'll take a pic (I'm NOT good with spreading icing. My efforts are on a par with a five year old's. And sometimes there's more on the worktop than on the damn cake!)

message 157: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Arshi, that looks good! I wish I was a better baker . . . but I always burn baking lol

message 158: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments Don't worry Zeenat - You and me both!
(that or it religiously sinks in the damn middle!) LOL
We can sit and watch in amazement while the rest of ladies bake delicious looking treats! :D

message 159: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments And then eat it!!!

message 160: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Jax It always takes me some time to re-adjust after the summer break. My feet have to get used to the abuse all over again! Though I have to admit, it's not so bad the second time around. Jive practice will always be rough!

I think the most creative thing I ever baked was a Slytherin cake for a friend's going away party a few years ago. I made one in the shape of a snake and used fondant to make the "skin" and face. Glittery icing helped with scales.

message 161: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Jax, I would be sitting in amazement too if I actually did manage to bake a delicious treat. Then I'd eat it all!! :D

message 162: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments LMAO! Enjoy it!
I seem to have gone off sweet yummies...
but you pop down a platter of savories, and I guarantee it will disappear within minutes! ;D

message 163: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I feel the world (and my appetite) is big enough for both!! :)

message 164: by [deleted user] (new)

I had my grandson over this afternoon - he and I made Halloween cookies just so he would have something special to do. And no, I didn't have any of them - I sent them all home with him. I'm doing WeightWatchers with the daughter and there were a few too many points in those things; plus I snuck a piece of Pumpkin pie and THAT really blew my points for the day!

That is too cool Claire! A slytherin Cake!

Duane, I just restarted weight watchers this week . . . I either eat too many points, or not enough points. lol

message 166: by [deleted user] (new)

@Zeenat - I started around the 30th of September - I TRY to monitor the points closely, but...I've gone from 192 lbs (an all time high weight for me) down to 170 lbs in that time. I want to get down to 160 which should be a good weight for someone 5'9", but the weight is not coming off as quick as it was! I wonder if it's that pizza and ice cream? LOL! Exercise would probably help - I have a roomful of exercise equipment that doesn't even know what I look like.

@Jax - That's not quite enough chocolate! ;-)

message 169: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments I have only ever baked twice in my life. The first cake actually turned out really really good and I was glad coz it was birthday present. It wasn't anything cool, just a chocolate cake with french vanilla icing and chocolate chips on top, but since it was the first time I had baked something, he was happy :) (Plus we decorated his house like we would a kid's. It was cool!)

Over all, I can't bake coz I don't have an oven atm. So unless it can be baked in a microwave, I can't do it :( So I collect recipes of everything that attracts me, and share them with you guys, and bug my boss to bake. She, thankfully is good at it :)

@Jax - I love the image!!!

I've done weight watchers on and off for a couple years. It helps me keep track more of what I eat than anything else. I lose weight at the beginning and then stall out. Then quit. Thankfully I don't gain weight again. I started off at 257 and am at 228 so . . . hopefully i'll get below 200 this time around. lol

message 173: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I may participate in nanowrimo unofficially. Between my thesis and my side writing, I got very many words to get through lol.

message 174: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Hummm okay.. so Random House and Penguin Books have officially merged because Random House bought Penguin.

Now, before the official name was announced, the guesses were: Penguin House, Random Penguin and my personal favorite Randy Penguin.

Unfortunately, they decided to be boring, and went with Penguin Random House. PR House :P Lets see how that works out.

message 175: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments "Randy Penguin" <-- Now THAT is a missed opportunity!! :D

Sophie (kurosymph) | 136 comments RANDY PENGUINS <3

message 177: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (kurosymph) | 136 comments #/D€*!!I can't make the picture bigger! But basically that's Jeremy Zerfoss' take on Penguin's publishing cycle :p. Notice that there ARE randy penguins above the "important meeting with the author caption"

message 178: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Sophie - LOL!!! Its great :)

@Lannister - I know!!! They so should have gone with it.. *shakes head* what an opportunity to miss!!!

message 179: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Btw, before I forget.. Neil Gaiman has posted a free story at Audible.com and Audible.co.uk for Halloween. I think I got the link from here (Duane maybe?), still I heard that its a really good story, though not that scary.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 1164 comments Duane posted about it? Well, sorry about the repeat. I listened to it yesterday...it's only like 12 minutes. It's not really scary but the ending made me uneasy. :)

message 181: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Maybe he was only talking about it, and you posted it? I dunno. I just know someone on GR posted it :) (which is why I did not post the link again) so I had to say that I've heard its good.

I should be able to listen to it tomorrow.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 1164 comments I read it from another group. I made a link in the bargain section if any want to listen to it. Better do it before Halloween because Audible will make a donation to charity for every download made before the 31st. It's for a good cause.....promoting reading...and it's free.

message 183: by [deleted user] (new)

Duane didn't post it, but it was nice of my friend Arushi to think of me!

Anyway, on the Penguin/Random House merger, does this mean they get to charge us even more for eBooks? ;-)

message 184: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (kurosymph) | 136 comments Audible says I can't download the story because I'm in France! What the heck!

message 185: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Sophie - Did you try the US link? The UK site didn't let me download but the US site did, coz its supposed to include 'the rest of the world'.

@Val - Thanks! Now I do know who posted this :)

@Duane - Love you too! And as for the merger, yeah probably. Plus Random used to be competent (Please remember, I've only dealt with the Indian Publishers) but I wonder what effect Penguin will have on them.. coz they can be quite, not competent.

They own most of the market, so yeah they'll set up more prices and be even more annoying. Its a good thing that there are smaller publishing houses as well as self publishing (which is really taking off thanks to Kindle.)

message 186: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Well, I'll have plenty of time for reading in the next two days, given that D.C. is basically shut down for the hurricane! I'm so thankful my classes were cancelled. There was no way my textbooks were going to survive a trek across campus in all this rain!

message 187: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Oh yeah, the hurricane's been all over the news. Stay safe, US east coast peeps!

message 188: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, it's only been going for a few hours here and I'm already tired of it. I don't know what's worse, the weather or the people bitching about the weather. Can't even turn on the damned TV without some whiner going at it.

message 189: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL! Coming for a nation of people who are obsessed with the weather, I can sympathise. Just read a book, but avoid ones about crazy women who can control the elements!! (Don't tempt fate!)

message 190: by [deleted user] (new)

It's interesting, the lazy bastards in DC couldn't wait to shut the Government down (wasn't even bad yesterday when they decided to do it, and in fact didn't get bad til this afternoon) but the poor mail carriers had to get their butts out and deliver the mail. Go figure. Of course, I have to work, too. Someone's got to pay for all the Government workers to sit home. ;-(

message 191: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'm worried about my family in New Jersey. Luckily, both sets of grandparents have family members coming to stay with them and one set has a generator, so they'll be okay. Unfortunately, several towns are under water and people have already died.

I dragged my roommates out hurricane shopping yesterday. We've been filling up containers with water and such, getting ready.

@Lannister are you referencing the Weather Wardens series?

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I'm gonna need Sarah and Arushi to be standing far, far away from my menfolk.

I had taken today off since I don't go back to work the day after coming off of a vacation. Our office was closed, anyway. It's closed again tomorrow, too.

message 193: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Hey Mello, did you enjoy your cruise?? Hope you had a good time. Too bad you came back to a hurricane!

Claire, I wasn't referring to any particular series. I think there might be a couple that have women controlling weather. Or I might be confused (a strong possibility!) Either way, don't piss off the weather gods today!

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments My cruise got changed around a lot. We couldn't go to the islands we were supposed to go to because of the storm. I still had an alright time, but the sailing wasn't smooth for most of the last few days of the trip.

message 195: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments People are freaking out about the weather. They're calling for like 3-4" of snow here tonight and it's flurrying outside. Stupid me, I attempt to go to the grocery store for coffee and I can't even find a damn parking space. Seriously?! Sure, we're all going to be stranded tomorrow with the next to no snow that wont even stick because it's been too hot. All I wanted was a coffee!! I'll just laugh at all those idiots when their groceries go bad from lack of power due to the insane freakin wind outside.

message 196: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Gin where do you live? I've heard of some places stuck with freak blizzards. West Virginia's gotten like 3 feet of snow.

message 197: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments I'm in Asheville North Carolina

message 198: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Everyone on the east coast, stay safe!

message 199: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Gin that's interesting, the storm shouldn't hit you guys at all.

Thanks Zeenat! Things are just starting to pick up around here.

message 200: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments It's just cold, icy, and windy here. I think maybe they are calling for like 4-8" tonight now. I'm in the mountains though, so they can't predict the weather here for shit.

Where are you at Claire?
