Thank you for that, Zeenat. As an introvert I can relate to a lot of those.
It always amuses me when people take 'introvert' to mean 'shy'. I'm not remotely shy and I can comfortably talk to strangers. I just can't be around people too much or I start to get twitchy.
Hahahah yes it's a plant! But I use it all the time cooking and by this time of year we usually have a relatively healthy crop going. But for some reason it never got planted properly and now it's dead.Every time the phone rings and it's a telemarketer I get a little bit closer to becoming a homicidal maniac.
I hear you on nuisance calls. I was actually looking at the Android app store today for an app to block calls from withheld numbers. Every time I get a call and the number is withheld it's always someone I don't want to speak to. I want to block these calls cold.
I hardly ever get phone calls on my cell ... I mainly use my phone for when I am feeling too lazy to get up and check on my email or something at my computer. It was fun when years ago I first got my Texas cell. It used to belong to a hispanic dude and I kept getting calls all in spanish asking for Oscar.
I *hate* the phone. When I used to work tech support I would get so pissed when I had to answer the phone ... interuppting me with idiocy when I could have been fixing stuff. I prefered emails.
Not being able to see people now can be good or bad. It depends on my mood I guess, sometimes I think that there are more people than there actually are.

I'm an outgoing person, so people always get's confused that when I tell them I'm an introvert. But I always prefer the computer or a book to real life people lol
They don't talk back and you can shut them up faster! My ex-husband used to drive me nuts when he had to tell me something. He would pussy-foot around it, blahblahblah, before getting to the point. I am glad he is also blind so he didn't see me rolling my eyes and making the "hurry the f up" gesture with my hand I did sometimes.
I don't know if I'd describe myself as an extrovert or an introvert. But I've never really worried about it either =p

Agreed! :D
Pity I can't make the rest of my extended family understand that!
I'd much rather spend hours with you guys online (even if I'm not contributing to the chat) than 1 hour with all of them (and their multitudes of guests)...
I think I am an introvert while people assume I am an extrovert. Labels bother me... but I forget abt them fast enough so its okay.
I like to see articles spreading knowledge about introverts as some folks have a perception that there is something wrong with people who want to be alone and read a book, rather than go out socialising with others. I need to be mentally prepared for socialising, but I catch up with friends most weekends, so I'm not a hermit hiding under the bed. But I hate last minute invitations and people who drop by uninvited, because I'm not in the right frame of mind to be social. I think only another introvert can really understand this mindset. Hell, even my mother gives me a hard time about this!
It's nice to know others suffer along with me...LOLThough, in my case, I think I'm a very happy introverted hermit.
In my defense - all the interesting people I know, are online ;D
Agreed! It's good to finally find your clan, even if you only know them through an internet forum. :D
LOL, that sounds good to me! And according to Zeenat's article above, all the best scientists, musicians, artists, poets, filmmakers, doctors, mathematicians, writers, and philosophers are introverts, so we're in good company. :D
WooHoo!!!!! I wanna join Clan Marlowe!!! Well.. I guess its a requirement since he is with me 3 days a week ;)
Dedication to my books! For someone who's usual exercise comprises of making it from the bedroom to the kitchen for coffee...
cycling 10km to get a book is effort!!! :D
I have to say... walking is sooo much easier! LOL
Well done, Jax! I like cycling, but I'm strictly a fair weather cyclist. It gets too cold, dark and windy in the winter round here to make it fun, and I can't do it unless I enjoy it. I hope the book is worth the effort.
I HOPE so!! LOLI've been on the prowl for it, since it completes the series...
refused to start reading them till I had all 3...
I'm fairly in the middle between introvert or extrovert... but I think I am more introvert than extrovert. I get energy from alone time than other people. :) Anyone else want to work on my thesis for me? Thanks! ;)
I'm generally always okay with roommates and family members, though I enjoy an hour or two of alone time per day. I do have to be in the mood to go out to parties and such though. And I'm an aspiring mathematician...promising sign?? =p
Shmerrrrrrr my antibiotics and prednisone are making my stomach sick. It's not a good time.
I dislike cycling. It makes my butt hurt.
I always get the sore butt at the start of the summer when I dust off my bike again. But once you've been out two or three times it's OK. I guess your butt muscles get used to it!

My patushie appreciates it! LOL
Now I'm going to go try finish this darn book (WASW) so I can read Hunted and prepare for the arrival of Magic Rises!!! :D
Tomorrow is my last day of work for the summer. It's very odd to think about, that my summer is almost over. *sad face*I haven't ridden a bicycle since a bad accident left me with a concussion and some serious back injuries. It's not that I'm afraid of riding per se, but risking a third concussion is inviting a whole world of trouble I don't want to deal with.

I simply cannot understand why a certain type of guy is so threatened by women that they need to lash out. It utterly bemuses me. Obviously it's not just about female geeks. There's been a big kickup in the UK about a woman who campaigned to get Jane Austen on bank notes and she was deluged by rape threats on Twitter. What kind of moron threatens RAPE because of who's on a bank note? But, of course, it's not really about that. It's about seeing a strong, successful woman in the media, when they believe she should be back in the kitchen.
Sorry, my inner feminist has been feeling particularly ranty these past few days!!
What are you all talking of?I read about the JA note . I thought it was dumb. People can be so stupid and dense.
@Lannie that's not a rant, that's common sense! ARGH PEOPLE I HATE THEM RAWROther RAWR type things: target had no size small undies. Why? All I want are some solid black ones to avoid embarrassing myself at the gym but nooooooooo
Lately there has been a huge firestorm over Misogyny and the sci/fi culture. It started with an article in the sfwa journal or magazine and the guys were just RIDICULOUSLY awful. Thankfully, a huge portion of the sci fi community talked about it, there were hundreds of blogs and articles about it. And then recently at cons women have been pointing out how they are treated like shit by other male geeks. Seanan Maguire journaled about it, and then the youtube video. It's been a bad trend for a long time, but I think it's bee getting well deserved attention lately.
Men are stupid. Men that describe themselves as "geeks" probably feel marginalized by their peers/were bullied by "stronger" men and so they take it out of the perceived "weaker" sex. Wow, that was a lot of quotations.
Ohhh the abbreviations got me. I remember reading some blogs of authors I follow who mentioned crap like that.It is frustrating as hell.
Too bad we actually need guys for things sometimes.
Ugh... Some men can be really pathetic!!And its really sad when the idiots come out and make the rest of the "sex" look bad.
Had it not been for meeting my husband, and then one or two others like him, I would have been bouncing up and down on the "down with men" wagon!! LOL
Its on occasions like this where I wonder if it really was a good idea to give the world such an easy medium to voice their opinions... SOME people really should be censored... simply because their idiocy should really be hidden...
Anyone else here ever listen to comedian Carlos Mencia?
He picks on absolutely EVERYONE! and raises some pretty valid points on occasion. :)
*mentally prepares for "hate-mail"I was listening to a local radio station recently, where they were discussing gaming. The various consoles, online gaming, competitive gaming etc...
And then this mother phones in...
She would like to know (as a mother) how to prevent her son from becoming an introvert? He has his PS3, PC and iPad etc... but how would she go about finding a balance for him??
HER SON IS 4 YEARS OLD! (make him go play outside!!!)
Parenthood should seriously require a license!
My nephew is 4 years old and he doesn't play on game consoles or use iPads etc. He likes playing outside in the garden.
Jax wrote: "how to prevent her son from becoming an introvert"See, this is what I was talking about before! Leaving aside the fact that her kid is little more than a toddler, what is actually wrong with being an introvert? Seriously, I can't understand it. There's a big difference between a kid who sits on the couch all day and a kid who gets exercise through play, and I can understand a mother being concerned about that, but an introverted personality is not a negative thing.
Grrrr!
On the misogyny thing, I follow John Scalzi on Twitter and he has a LOT to say about it! I'm not any kind of man hater. I frequently get on better with guys than women. But there is a certain type of guy that must be so woefully insecure in himself that he has to lash out at women. Most of the stuff I read is so over the top that I think it must be 15 year old boys showing off to their mates, but once in a while you come across something where a guy acts so entitled that it almost takes your breath away. Like guys becoming furious that women won't talk to them in a bar or something like that. They seem to think that because they have condescended to speak to her, that she must automatically give them her attention. It drives me nuts!
I read a fabulous article about this here:
http://chrisbrecheen.blogspot.co.uk/2...
It's well worth a read. I loved the bit where he said "I really like your hair. It looks soft." LMAO!
@ Michelle: My daughters are now 9 & 11 and they STILL have to ask me whether or not they may be allowed an hour or so to play PC or PS games. And my answer is usually, not now (unless its a weekend and miserable outside). They each have a Kobo (our bookstores stock awful kids books)and an MP3 player for audio books and music, however they do not have 16GB Ipods, Ipads, Tablets of any nature, gameboys or the like... I blame the toy stores for the most part - But parents also need to shoulder some of the responsibility. @ Lannister: I agree with you about the Introvert stigma, however it once again shows the misconception. PC's, consoles whatever your preference, Gaming doesn't make an introvert. Letting your 4 year old have at it though, does breed the socially inept hide in a dark hole personality.
As for your Article... I thought it was BRILLIANT!!
He deserves a HUGE big Thank you cupcake!! ;D
We need more guys like that! Because it is just SOOOO true!!!
I had a friend once have this guy hit on her, and even when I told him she was with me (intimating we were an item). His Response? The only reason she liked "girls" was because she hadn't been with Him. Some Guys just do NOT know how to take a hint/shove/outright dis-interest!
yeah the creepy guy thing really took off, he did great :)It's definitely not all guys, not even most guys. It's just certain assholes that pollute the pool. But I do think not enough people stand up to the assholes, probably because they don't notice or feel uncomfortable. with the attention out there, hopefully better awareness will be result in reduced asshole-excusingness...
About the hair comment...I've literally had men (and some women) come up to me in CROSSWALKS to mention my hair and it's just like...buddy, I'm trying to cross the street. Do ya mind?I don't think children that young should have so many electronics. It's not good for their eyes or their neural development. When my sister and I were little and needed entertainment on long car rides, the treat was that we got to go to the library and pick out books on tape.
I have so much to say, but I am sorta drunk atm so that is not a good idea tbh. While growing up we had a ton of long car trips ... to the river (colorado, I grew up in so california) or glamis ... or even camping. Those car rides were generally 5 or so hours at times. I had books I read till I didn't have enough light. That or I sketched or played eye spy games with my sister. Sometimes, when we were good or something, we could use my dad's mini tv and try to get a channel in or watch a tape ... yes a tape like VHS tape.
If I could have spent my time playing my nintendo or xega ... oh wait I did that anyways. I didn't like people too much, I have always gotten along better with guys than girls. Most of the girls I knew while growing up were backstabbing drama queens. It was best to avoid that crap....
Oh a side note ... I went out with my sister and gfriends for another friend's birthday. It is funny when they take a group picture and the drunk girl next to you gives you bunny ears and grins like she is getting away with something ... hi I am blind I have nfi if the camera even flashed, much less if you gave me bunny ears....
So much to say :) I read that article and I think it is brilliant. It was not just that he did something - but rather he noticed that something needed to be done. It is ridiculous how oblivious ppl can be at times - or simply do not want to be involved.
The whole situation is worse in India. I do not even want to guess the actual number of rapes, but even normally so many men have this entitled attitude that a woman just should bow to their better judgement. No matter who it is. No matter what it is about. I am generalizing and not everyone is a jackass - but quite a few ppl are.
The other thing is that our culture is very respectful (coz I CANNOT think of a better word). People take permission/opinion/approval of their adults (parents, in-laws whoever you live with) for things that simply should be their own decisions. In a situation like this - its even easier for people to make it so that a woman needs permission from someone for everything.
That being said, most of the ppl I know are NOTHING like this. Thank god!!!
I've always gotten along better with girls. When I was growing up, boys tended to give me a lot of shit. They still give me a lot of shit, which is probably all my best friends have been/will be female.Thank God, I've rarely encountered men with such a shit attitude. But I expect that I will encounter this prejudice as a woman in a STEM field. There will always be men that can't take us seriously.
