Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think I like things that are hilarious and disturbing at the same time. Especially with big, long tongues.

LMAO!!!

Oh, and also, OUCH! Still, Mircea's a vampire. I'm sure he can take a bit of pain, though it gives a whole new meaning to the expression 'butthurt'!

Yes, yes, I'm going now. :D

Jax | 831 comments My e-reader Broke! **sob**
I suspect one of my kids accidentally sat on it.

I've been considering various replacements, but so far have come up with zip... granted, making choices on small things like this - so NOT my forte'!

I know I don't want a kindle. (my hubby has one)
I have nothing against reading on them in a pinch...
But I don't like the storage. And I'm ocd about how my books are listed... (sorry, can't help it)

Plus my options are slightly limited (due to what is actually available to me in SA) (i.e No Nook)

However, I can't decide if I should get another reader, or just fold and get myself a small tablet?

OUT!!! It is really hard to scrub my brain clean sometimes after you've been around!!

@Jax - that sucks!!! I hope you figure something out. I don't actually know much about e-readers and tablets. Still.. maybe get a tablet now and then wait to get an e-reader of your choice later? At least they'll both be different pieces of tech...

message 1416: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Jax, do you think you could read for extended periods on a tablet? I know some people don't find them as comfortable to use as e-ink.

That's a shame you can't get a Nook, cos they're doing a deal on them in the UK right now, where you can get one for £29. It's a steal at that price.

If you go for a tablet, I have a Google Nexus 7" tablet and I really like it and would recommend.

message 1417: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments That's sooo UNFAIR!!
Plus, I really like EVERYTHING I've read about the Nook - except the part where I'd have to import, which means, if I needed any extra's (cables etc) it would be a mission! And you're right - even with the currecy exchange that offer is cheaper than ANYTHING here! POUT!

As for the tablet vs e-ink... It doesn't really seem to matter for me... my reader was backlit, whereas I can use my hubbies Kindle which is e-ink...
Either way, I'm happy - so long as I can READ! :D

Okay, I'm going to go see if/where I might be able to check out a Nexus here!

message 1418: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I'm actually thinking of buying one of those Nooks just because! My Kindle must be nearly three years old and it's only a matter of time before it packs in. Plus I read this article which explains how to root the Nook so that it becomes a basic Android device, and then you can install the Kindle reading app and any other reading apps that are available on Android. It would mean I'd have one device that can be used to read books from multiple different book sellers. It sounds like a great deal for £29.

Though, of course there is always the risk that I might brick it LMAO!

@Jax- I have both and I prefer the tablet.

Of course you do... and then it is on all our minds. Sigh.

I really like what you just told me about Nook. Using it as an android device would be cool. I think for that I would prefer a nook when I next upgrade my e-reader. Right now I am happy with my Kobo tho it is getting slow.. not to mention getting a nook would involve travelling to somewhere that sells it..

message 1422: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments My kids have the Kobo... and I was considering just getting one for me when mine died its untimely demise...and then the store (please note the SINGULAR) that sells them bumped up the price by 50%.
On principal alone... I simply refuse.

It's part of your charm!! ;D

message 1424: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Oh yeah, blame the innocent one! ;)

I know I was devestated when my kindle stopped working. So I can imagine how you feel! I would go with whatever you feel is the most user friendly for you. Cause you can pretty much get any books anywhere. I don't like to read with an LED backlight, so for me it's any e-ink display, and since I do a lot with amazon and thats where all my books are from, I do kindle.

I know the kindle touch and kindle for android went through an overhaul in it's platform recently, I don't know about the other ones though. I like the new set up much better.

message 1427: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL!!

Maybe Mircea would like them better if they wore these ...

(Man, you can find anything on the web!)

message 1428: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments They make shoes that make a person's feet look like horse hooves, I am sure there could be some designer hoof covers.
But ... I think it would not count because ... well there are no toes.

message 1429: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments LOL!!! I am sure Mircea will manage... He does happen to be pretty creative... but it might require quite a bit of flexibility on his part... just sayin..

message 1430: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments @ Jax - poor you. I love the layout on my ipad readerbut but I get headaches if I use it a lot.My daughter has a mini Kobo which is cute (but slow).
@ Lannister - the Nook deal sounds good.

message 1431: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Aaaaand finals week is upon me! It's both good and bad that I have only 2 days of exams. On hand, that's fewer days that I need to exist in a state of complete panic, staying until 2:00am doing Linear Algebra. On the other hand, way less time to study which is vastly increasing my panic. ARGH.

message 1432: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments It'll soon be over, Claire. Good luck!

message 1433: by Llaph (new)

message 1438: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Horrifying realizations my first night home: 1) A spider has made its home in my tub 2) I showered next to it 3) It's too big to squash with a wad of toilet paper. Positive discoveries: 1)Kaboom foam spray is just as effective as Raid, with the added bonus of a squeaky clean shower. 2) I am remarkably resourceful when faced with a large arachnid and no immediate means of escape

message 1439: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I keep a little box in my bathroom that I 'encourage' spiders into, then I put them out the window.

Even though I don't like spiders, I don't feel quite comfortable killing them. I'm a total big softy LOL!

message 1440: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments I'm itchy just reading this!

Claire - Had it been me, I would have been on the opposite side of the house (starkers or not) while the soap I was holding still hovered in midair!

I DO NOT like spiders!
If they remain outside, I can deal... or if I happen to move stuff while cleaning, and find one - I'll give em the benefit of the doubt, and assist them outside, (all the while squirming! - or I make my hubby do it :D)...
But otherwise most get promptly squashed!
(- unless they're too big to squish - in which case - as stated above, I have vacated the area!)

message 1441: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL Jax, I'm imagining you like a cartoon character where your legs are going so fast they blur! :D

I hate the way spiders move so quickly when I'm trying to scoop them up into my box. It freaks me out, even though I know it's stupid to be scared. Those things are fast!

message 1442: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments Lannister - that's pretty much me and Arachnids! *shivers* and I have no problem squishing them cos' we have so bloody many! :)

Never mind their speed, I just hate the way they move. Period! they literally make me itchy.
I'm usually okay if they remain still - but lets face it - the little buggers never remain still!
I found a pretty big one once behind a shelf I wanted to move to a different spot. Figured, he was actually trying to hide... Stupidly used a glass jar to take him out... and the misery kept running around and around inside the jar!
Needless to say, I had to take a REALLY hot shower after I'd tossed him into the garden!

message 1443: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments Had to pause 3 times watching Arachnaphobia...

oddly though - found "Eight legged freaks" amusing.

message 1444: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Ahh I don't mind UK spiders as none are dangerous though seeing one in mega close up in the bathroom 'cos I'm too shortsighted without my glasses to spot them can make me jump though Ha HA!

message 1445: by D.C. (new)

D.C. (dcmallory) | 152 comments @Jax - "Eight Legged Freaks" is one of my favorite movies. I can watch it over and over and not be tired of it; I laugh my ass off every time I watch it. I also like the version is "Itsy-Bitsy Spider" they play at the end of the movie - tried to find that mp3 but no luck.

Plus it has Kari Wuhrer in it - who could ask for more?

message 1446: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments @ D C - I wonder if the song is on the soundtrack?

*heads off to search*

message 1447: by D.C. (new)

D.C. (dcmallory) | 152 comments @ Jax - I didn't find it on the commie site so I don't know....

message 1448: by D.C. (new)

D.C. (dcmallory) | 152 comments @Jax - I found the Soundtrack - its called "Arac Attack - Eight Legged Freaks" but its not the songs, it just that lame music that plays behind the scenes. Blah!

message 1449: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments I used to not like spiders, but I lived in a house for a few years that had tons of them and they were huge. My entire front porch would be covered in web every morning and there was one that stayed in a crack in the siding by the handle of my front door. It never seemed to go anywhere and at first I was afraid to touch the door handle, but I eventually got used to him. It's funny big spiders don't freak me out anymore, it's the little ones that bother me.

message 1450: by Jax (last edited May 09, 2013 07:41AM) (new)

Jax | 831 comments @ Gin - I tip my hat to you...
However, there isn't the remotest chance in HELL you would have gotten me to touch that door handle after making me aware of the little critter!! ;D
Hell could have frozen over and the re-thawed...
actually it would probably take that long to convince me he'd moved...

Though... granted... I did sort of get used "Shelob" - who decided to make her web outside above the front door...
I got used to scanning for precisely where she was and then impersonating Speedy Gonzalez to get past...
