Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Frog #2 keeps sounding better, is it a rl pic of a frog or a drawing/rendering of one?
It does not matter I was just curious. Would I have to have the link for the pic or can I just dl'd it to my comp and upload that way? It has been a very long time since I have done this.

omg a person that knows that cyan is a color.... I decided to get my nails done with my sister yesterday (shalacking wtf?) and chose a blue color and told my sister I wanted a light blue color. She said it was the lightest they had and could not describe it to me.
otw to dinner last night we used my color id app on my phone to see ... then the fun started when I turned on exotic names.
Apparently without flash my sister's skin tone is "shady lady" but after I turned the flash on for that app it turned into "pale oyster".
The name it said nmost was marina, I got it no one else did....

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Frog 2 is a cutesy cartoon drawing. I think you have to upload a pic from your own computer to change your profile pic. So once you decide, I'll post a link that will take you directly to the pic (it won't be a web page containing the pic, it'll go straight to the pic itself). Can you save pics OK from your screen reader? If it would be easier, PM me your email address and I'll email the pic to you. I've deliberately made the pic small cos Goodreads avatar images are all very small, so it's only a tiny little file.

I have a friend who's a graphic designer actually, and I remember we were looking at something in a shop window one time (I think it was bicycles) and she said she liked the vermilion one. I just turned and looked at her and started laughing. I mean, who says that?! She just shrugged and said "Graphic designer".

I think my skin tone would be milk bottle white!

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments You can just give me the link. I would say post it on GR, but this site is dumb for posting images. I normally can just select them and do the right click thing with the application key. Not on GR though! stupidstupid Can even select the image or get a msg saying "hey this is an image" that I would normally get with a graphic or whatnot.
Whatever is easiest for you, thanks youse.

lol I have done that, use a biggish name for a color. I sometimes get a ... feeling from people. The ... look was still funny when I could still see it. When you are an artist knowing different names for shades of a color are key.
Prussian blue doesn't look much like cornflower blue now does it?
I used to have hex and cymd numbers down enough to picture the color when I saw a number ... now I just remember that #000000 and #FFFFFF are black and white.

Anna | 1680 comments Thanks Lannister, they were the ones. Sorry selecting pictures on the ipad seems to be a skill I've yet to master.

@Llaph, I suppose its down to how realistic you want your frog picture to be.
Royal Blue frog on a green leaf is a straight photo with the frog looking to the left and takes up most of the avatar.
Frog 4 is a coloured in illustration/cgi semi realistic image of a paler blue frog with darker blue spots looking to the right. The lavender background is quite noticeable.
Frog 2 is definitely a cartoon. Lannister describes the colouring really well and it's facing directly at you.
@Lannister I typed in orange poppies and some of the images come up golden yellow! It must be a US thing it's not like any poppy I've seen in the UK. It's almost like a cross with a wallflower. See what you think.

Whoops just realised you guys have moved on! LOL Good luck with downloading..

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Right, the link below will go straight to the frog 2 image.

http://highentropy.co.uk/images/llaph...

If you save that onto your own computer, then you need to go to your profile page, which is at the link below:

http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/71...

Right at the top, where it says "Llaph's profile" there should be a link that says "Edit Profile". If you click on that, on the next page there should be a box on the right hand side to upload your profile pic. I hope you can figure this out OK.

On hex codes, I think I only know the codes for black, white and red. I never quite figured out the methodology. Well done, you! :)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I hope that I did this right, took me a second to recognize that png is a graphic file ext now. I just don't pay attention to those anymore. :P
hrm going through my profile reminds me that I really should update it ... feeling like a slacker atm so nooope!

In regards to the poppy, it is the state flower of california so it's the calofornia golden poppy. I saw it all of the time when I walked a lot ... it grew like a weed for the most part. That and datura plants bleh ... flora in so cal is rather boring for the most part.

If you use photoshop and mess with webpage code a lot you begin to remember how it works. I think it is really just a math sort of thing. Like 6 places if this is 0 and then you have 3 it makes this yadda yadda.

Personally I liked the color palette and the eyedropper tool to grab the right color out of a picture. You get better background/border/accent colors that way. I don't know how many times I grabbed some obscure color in a picture that wasn't really noticable and used it in part of the background and it matched well.
wow I sound like a dork....

I had a coke ... caffeine....

Even if I am a dork and screwed it up.

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments How is everyone today? My little sister just got announced as salutatorian of her high school class. I'm nearly bursting with pride!

message 1263: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Good for her! You guys are a smart family ;)

I started weight lifting on friday and my arms STILL hurt! It's like a golfer's elbow issue. It sucks BALLS. I'm gonna lift again today, but it's just lower body so not that much arm work.

message 1264: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Awww thank you!!

And I totally know how you feel. I did this Pilates move for the first time last week and couldn't move for like, two days! But it's worth it because I did it again yesterday and it doesn't hurt as much. Yay for getting stronger!

message 1265: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Congrats to your sister Claire, but please enlighten me. What exactly is 'salutatorian'? Is that best student or something like that? (We don't have stuff like that round these parts.)

message 1266: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Valedictorian is the number 1 slot, Salutatorian is the number 2 spot. In the whole entire school.

message 1267: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Ah, thanks Zeenat. Impressive!

message 1268: by D.C. (new)

D.C. (dcmallory) | 152 comments It is impressive - I think I was lucky to graduate high school. Guess its a good thing I did better in college.

message 1269: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Very impressive. I was barely in the top 25% lol

message 1270: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think a lot of people don't do so well in school, but it's no real statement on their actual intelligence level. The traditional education system just doesn't suit some kids unfortunately.

message 1271: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments yeah. Plus intelligence manifests in so many different ways!

message 1272: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Yeah, exactly. The trick is to make people engage with what they're doing. Once they're interested, learning is a pleasure.

message 1273: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'm very, very proud of her! Class rank is often determined by .001 of a point. Most of us in cum laude (top 10%) have nearly identical GPAs.

I've had issues this semester, mainly because the way physics is taught here isn't working for me. Our class average on the last exam was 57! Out of 110!!

message 1274: by D.C. (new)

D.C. (dcmallory) | 152 comments I graduated college magna cum laude, but I never asked any of the others for their GPA, nor did I look it up. I was just glad I managed to get out and not have to go back.

message 1275: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments That is a big accomplishment for her grats on that.

My school was the same way ... that is why we had multiple valdectorians and salutorians.
Then again it was a southern california school and my graduating class was in the hundreds, I want to say 700 but I am old. I remember the number for my freshman class though, that was 1200.... I graduated from high school in '97 so ... for the numbers today.

message 1276: by D.C. (new)

D.C. (dcmallory) | 152 comments Hmmm. In my graduating class there was about 70 of us. The school held 8th - 12th grade. Our Freshman class had about 80 in it. Most of the students who didn't make it to graduation was because they died. Seems like young kids in the country do live as long. At least they didn't back in the early 70's. I suppose drinking and driving didn't increase their odds any.

message 1277: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments My high school was in southern california, within the first year or so it was open, back when my dad went 37 years ago, they had race riots. The school was in the middle/border of middle class, the black projects/mexican projects/white trash-country folk.
The main reason for the decrease of people graduating was teen pregnancy, juvi, and just dropping out period.
It had a weird mix of people/classes/races.
The only thing my school had going for it was its football and the IB/AP education courses.

Random memory ... outside of P.E. I have never had a locker. That goes for high school and middle school.

message 1278: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments P.S I am procrastinating....

message 1279: by D.C. (new)

D.C. (dcmallory) | 152 comments Heck, we had race riots in our little school. Great fun, but not so good for the cafeteria; lots of damage and no lunch on those days. Of course, looking back at it I don't think the majority of us had any problem with the other side; we were all just bored.

message 1280: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I have come to the conclusion that nothing is worse on a sandwich than runny peanut butter.

message 1281: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments My school was really open, I don't think anyone really used the cafeteria. I never remember eating there and was there a handful of times in total. Only maybe a couple being to by food ... OCS was held there too. :/
We had a big quad and food carts to buy lunch off of ... suddenly I am craving their french fries and a chocolate malt. (yes we dipped the fries in them)

That is gross ... mainly with the reasoning what is making that peanut butter runny? Too much oil or ... grody.

message 1282: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments It's Whole Foods organic peanut butter. I have no idea why it's always so soupy.

Today is like heaven for me...I love the day of the book...the bad thing is that there are too many people and it takes forever if you want to purchase a book.

message 1284: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Day of the book?
Wow my school days sound positively dull. We turned up, did some stuff and went home! There were teenage pregnancies but it was a Catholic school so that's only to be expected...
Llaph - blue frog is cool!
Claire I am alarmed every time I look at your avatar :D

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I am going to try this again....
The av is a collaboration by anna and lannister. Anna found it and lannister did av things to it.... I hope I got that part right, I hate screwing up facts.
It will most likely be the last av I put up, I am pretty sure I will forget about it. Come to think about it I rarely if ever changed my av/sig pic when I still posted on msg boards.
I am grateful for all of the help. :)

Isn't Claire's av a pic from when she did that outside thing with the colored stuff ... like confetti but like colored powder?
Was there a specific color or what? I admit not paying much attention to it.

I think I smell sarcasm though....
My sister is going to do a run with her friends where check points are supposed to cover the runner in colors or something when they go through them. My dad and mom might do it too.
The other week she did a run that was in a mud/obsticle sort of course and was talking over dinner to my dad about it.
Dad--and you paidfor this?
angie--yes I did and there is another later yadda yadda ... you would freak at what I paid for it
dad-- ... what did you pay?
angie--$40
dad $40!!! You paid that to get dirty and tired wtf?

Er he did not actually say wtf but he has this silence and look that screams it.

message 1289: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Llaph yeah, it's my face covered in red and purple powder

And my two best friends did the warrior dash. Something about running through a mud pit and leaping over flames. It sounded absolutely awful.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments It is wrong when I spend the time washing my comforter, using carpet freshener on my carpet, and dusting my room to make it smell good and the smelly ass dogs show up to ruin it.
No one else smells them but me ... I know my stroke took like 95% of my olfactory senses but I can still smell stuff. pffft

I might read the last bit and cheat. I admit to doing that with A Memory of Light. (I feel bad about doing that too lol)
