But, but... I want to! *pouts*

I'll get a dog's paw and my dog's name below it on my right lower arm. :-)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Aw cute! And a paw print is what The Pack use in Kate Daniels to identify their properties and stuff, so you'll be a Friend of the Pack!

That's a nice bonus. :-)

I already have another tattoo that is both a symbol for some of my friends but also a book character (in a friend's story). :-)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I think if I ever get a tattoo, it would probably be something literary

I love it. I'll never give up physical books (I think that's what some call it) but for some the e-version is enough. I also have some fanfic I can put on there. I share it with the hubby, btw. :-)

message 613: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Ah... yeah. I find I cannot read physical books anymore. I get tired easily. Its kinda sad since i have a lot that I haven't read yet. Still, the new kindles are supposed to be pretty awesome!

message 614: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I don't mind paperbacks. And when I'm buying a book, if the Kindle version is about £5, but I can get a second-hand book for less than £3, I'll probably buy the used book (well, unless it's a series that I'm a huge fan of and know I'll probably read again. But if it's just some random purchase, I'll take cheap and cheerful everytime.)

Also, I like reading in the bath!

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Zeenat I'm not sure, I think it depends on who your carrier is. Most companies seem to run before-Christmas specials. You could probably ask your local branch if they're going to run any promotions after the holidays or something.

Arushi | 3652 comments I plucked out all the paperbacks I have but haven't read yet, today. I am gonna read 10 pages everyday (from tomorrow) so that I am somewhat in the habit.. and more importantly, so that I actually finish the damned books.

Make the deaths of the trees count!!!

message 619: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I don't mind certain things going paperless, but if there were no more bookstores, libraries, books to leaf through....I'd be upset. Plus, computers hurt my eyes. If I could never get a break my life would be a lot more painful.

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments There is something about having a library.

message 621: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments My current issue with my local libraries is that they never carry the books I want to read. I'll find something on GR and look up that author/book in my library's online catalogue. It's not even that the book isn't in my town's library, it isn't anywhere in the county!

message 622: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments that's lame! Have you tried "overdrive" yet? I think that's the e-book borrowing software thingy libraries use.

Here's not so much a random thought as as Christmas tradition; I just made 35 pounds of fudge, consisting of Chocolate with nuts, Butterscotch with nuts, Peanut Butter with no nuts, and Cinnamon with nuts. I still have 15 pounds of fudge to go, and then I'm done for another year; White Chocolate with nuts, Chocolate with no nuts, and one more Cinnamon with nuts. I really should make a batch with dried red habaneros in it just to shake up the world, but the wife would kill me.

I would have finished all of it today, but I ran out of steam. I still have to cut it, pack it, and send it out. I can see where the Grinch was coming from....

message 626: by Gin (new)

Gin | 323 comments Sounds delicious Duane!

I love the smell of real books and for some reason that seems to be the hardest thing to part with when using an ereader.

I bet books get reused more than anything else trees are used for.

Zeenat, I love it. It's about the size of a kindle fire. As for the phones, l was always under the impression electronics went on sale after the holidays.

@Zeenat In UK Overdrive works as a subscription service - a college/school woud pay £2000? per year for a years worth of free book loans so - I'm not aware of it being available for individuals but it might have changed already.

@Duane OMG sounds great though I have no idea what a hanaberos is!

message 631: by Zeenat (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Awesome! My library is in fact on here. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to have a sci fi or fantasy section.

message 633: by [deleted user] (new)

@Anna - a habanero is one of the hottest peppers on earth. They are very sweet, but you can only taste them for about the first two seconds of biting into one. Once the heat kicks in you sweat like a pig and wonder why you like them so much. They are great!

message 634: by Arushi (last edited Dec 11, 2012 03:48AM) (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Oooh... me wanna!!!
I wonder how good they are with chocolate.. or fudge :) I'd ask you to share the recipe Duane.. but I don't see anyone around who I can con into making it for me :(

message 635: by [deleted user] (new)

@Arushi - they are good with anything. I like making them with white chocolate instead of the semi-sweet because then you can see the pepper flakes easier - kind of like a warning flag.

I also have something called "Pure-Cap" which is basically the distilled capiscum from the seeds and pod, the mixed with a vegetable type oil to keep it liquid. One drop makes a gallon of chile extremely hot. I had the wife pick it up for me; she had to sign a waiver saying that if I used it and died it's not their fault; she's still pissed off at me for that!

And I only do fudge at Christmas, although what I lack in frequency I make up for in quantity! Hmmm, that almost sounds perverted. ;-)

message 636: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Where are you?? In the world that is??
I need to go there and order some of this stuff that I've never heard off. Sign a waiver? Sure!!! If only I could find stuff that hot!!!

Ppl find Tobasco too hot here while I literally pour it on stuff. And Frank's red hot is not available :(

message 637: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 11, 2012 05:12AM) (new)

@Arushi - typically I grow my own peppers during the summer so I have a huge supply for the winter - I freeze them in vacuum bags so that that stay good.

As far as ordering, here in the US I use Hot Sauce World which is online. I don't know if they have the Pure-Cap as that is picked up locally, but they do have "Scorned Woman" which is the finest hot sauce in the world. I use it on everything. Their motto used to be the old "Hell hath no fury..." but I see the new bottles have done away with that.

I made habanero ice cream. The combination of cold/sweet and extreme spice was awesome! The trick was to run the peppers through a food processor with a little water to make a slurry, and add that to the partially defrosted vanilla ice cream, mix and refreeze.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments That sounds good, Enjee.

Hmmm, I never thought of mixing it with ice cream. Of course, I rarely eat ice cream. I bet it'd be pretty darn good in a jamocha shake though...

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments My father accidentally put a significant amount of Dave's insanity sauce on a piece of chicken once. It's not pure capsaicin, but that's one of the ingredients. My uncle uses like a thimble-full in a whole pot of chile. He turned bright red, started sweating, and couldn't speak. We thought we'd have to take him to the hospital. I think he burnt his taste buds off, literally. Luckily, they grow back in about two weeks.

message 646: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Enjee - That sounds really good. Once I find habaneros (and dammit I will!) I am making that ice-cream.

Yay!! I just asked my boss... and it is available. Hard to find, but there. Yay!!!

message 647: by [deleted user] (new)

Dave's Insanity Sauce is definitely hot - I have a bottle of it - but it tastes like sh**, at least in my opinion. What I like is Dave's Insanity Spice, which I buy by the box. It is just the dried habaneros, seed pods and all, in a bottle. I use it on salads, sandwiches, and all other manner of quick foods. It's as hot as the insanity sauce, but with no bitter taste. Yummy!

http://www.hotsauceworld.com/hsw3020....

For Chile, Pure-cap is the ticket; it has no flavor of it's own, so by using it you are not tainting the true flavor of the chile. Well, and it's about twice as hot as the Insanity sauce.

Anna | 1680 comments You guys know your hot stuff!

message 649: by [deleted user] (new)

@Arush - look for "Scotch Bonnets" as well - these are a form of the habanero, and are equally as hot. You might have some luck finding them.
