I've lived all my life in NSW and don't watch any other football than AFL. Know what you mean Carolyn about lack of teams for juniors wanting to play Aussie rules. We used have to take our young son miles to get him into a team. In the end he opted for soccer which I never understood even after the few years he played it. Origin was a non event in our house. We were watching 360 and League teams ready for this week's AFL matches.

Ryan I quite like rugby league despite its bad reputation outside the eastern seaboard. It is certainly very confronting. I'm sure if I grew up in an AFL area I would be interested in that too. It is very well marketed.

I'm more a Rugby Union fan - they have greater controls over their players. A union player sins and they get really punished not tapped on the hand like the league guys.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Good win for the Hawks. I should tip the Crows more often! :P

you said it all Michael.

Ryan I find the A-League fills the gap pretty well. It gets better every year. And if you like sports because the players are nice guys, the soccer does that for you too.

message 1260: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments So glad I was working today and couldn't watch that game. So upsetting. So relieved to have the bye and not thinking about this pathetically under performing team for a week.
I still love Chad though.

We have cricket once the footy season is over. Plus as Ryan said, A league soccer for those who like games played with the feet.

message 1262: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6924 comments And for those of us who only watch one code once AFL is over it is watch no sport.

I got home in time for the game unfortunately :/ it was legitimately the worst I have seen them play, even worse than against the Lions back in round 7. It shouldn't have been anywhere near as close as it was, we did not deserve to lose that by 4 points - should've been belted.

Still, right at the end when Sammy had that set shot taken away from him for ????? reasons, I may have punched a hole in my door >.>

Stef Rozitis Oh! So my brother's facebook will be full of the dees!!

Bizarre. Wrecked my tipping. Sorry Brenda that Geelong couldn't do it for Enright.

Suz | 4436 comments My sports comment is two of the kids are playing 'Test Match' on the kitchen table. Not a bad day, I took my 10 yo son to the library today (he borrowed cricket documentaries - and there were many) and showed him how to use the catalogue and search the shelves!

I look forward to being obliterated by Collingwood at home next week.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Yeah, jesus. When I woke up and saw the facebook posts I thought it was some sick joke D:

As did the players apparently Liam, when they were first notified...

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Cats/Crows game has been called off, called a draw with both teams getting half-points. :/

message 1292: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80088 comments Mod
Yes just saw the announcement. It's what I thought would happen as I couldn't see there was anything else they could do. Unfortunate but the best they could do under the circumstances. And there is no way the players could possibly play...

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) No precedent for an active coach being murdered.

message 1294: by [deleted user] (new)

I am not Australian however I did hear about this on the CBC this morning. Condolences to family, friends and fans - that is extremely sad news.

Exactly!

message 1296: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments Still feeling stunned. Absolutely tragic and that poor girl traveling back home...her father murdered, her brother responsible. A family shattered forever. Michael you would probably be feeling it more there in Adelaide today but even here it's all anyone can talk about. Everyone just stunned at this devastating news.

message 1297: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9850 comments What an awful thing to happen to any family. Crows players and other teams and coaches must be in shock.

message 1298: by [deleted user] (new)

The USA and Japan are going at it for the Fifa finals. I never knew I was such an avid fan of Japan :p lol

Dale Harcombe | 6924 comments Saw this match delayed as DH was out for a couple of hours. Good gritty win to Port. Has been some wonderful tributes to Walsh. He certainly won't be forgotten in a hurry.
