The Sport Spot - Comment here on what's happening in the world of Aussie sports!
I quite like rugby league despite its bad reputation outside the eastern seaboard. It is certainly very confronting. I'm sure if I grew up in an AFL area I would be interested in that too. It is very well marketed.

A union player sins and they get really punished not tapped on the hand like the league guys.
Well ... hockey season is over, and Chicago won the stanley cup. Now Canada has no idea what to o with itself until next season :P

It is a very dark period of time when your favourite, national sport finishes for the season lol :P

you said it all Michael.
I find the A-League fills the gap pretty well. It gets better every year. And if you like sports because the players are nice guys, the soccer does that for you too.
So glad I was working today and couldn't watch that game. So upsetting. So relieved to have the bye and not thinking about this pathetically under performing team for a week. I still love Chad though.

I got home in time for the game unfortunately :/ it was legitimately the worst I have seen them play, even worse than against the Lions back in round 7. It shouldn't have been anywhere near as close as it was, we did not deserve to lose that by 4 points - should've been belted.
Still, right at the end when Sammy had that set shot taken away from him for ????? reasons, I may have punched a hole in my door >.>

My sports comment is two of the kids are playing 'Test Match' on the kitchen table. Not a bad day, I took my 10 yo son to the library today (he borrowed cricket documentaries - and there were many) and showed him how to use the catalogue and search the shelves!
Brenda wrote: "What a shock! What on earth happened?? Well, I suppose that's football isn't it!"More so this year than any other, I suspect Brenda. A bizarre season.
The Aussie girls are through to the Women's Soccer World Cup quarter finals after beating Brazil 1-0. Great effort from the Matildas!
Canada defeated Switzerland today in the world cup :D. I am hoping we go far as we are the host country.

Looks like Canada and Australia were defeated in the Women's World Cup today :(
I was so hoping the Matilda's would win - it would have been amazing. Still, they did a fabulous job getting that far...
Michael wrote: "Yeah i seen that Melissa. Canada by England and the Ozzies by Japan. Bad day all round. Oh well there is always the next tournament. :)"
I refuse to cheer for the USA lol

Port Adelaide continue in their vein of disgusting performances.I look forward to being obliterated by Collingwood at home next week.
Yes just saw the announcement. It's what I thought would happen as I couldn't see there was anything else they could do. Unfortunate but the best they could do under the circumstances. And there is no way the players could possibly play...
I am not Australian however I did hear about this on the CBC this morning. Condolences to family, friends and fans - that is extremely sad news.
Still feeling stunned. Absolutely tragic and that poor girl traveling back home...her father murdered, her brother responsible. A family shattered forever. Michael you would probably be feeling it more there in Adelaide today but even here it's all anyone can talk about. Everyone just stunned at this devastating news.
What an awful thing to happen to any family. Crows players and other teams and coaches must be in shock.
The USA and Japan are going at it for the Fifa finals. I never knew I was such an avid fan of Japan :p lol

I've lived all my life in NSW and don't watch any other football than AFL. Know what you mean Carolyn about lack of teams for juniors wanting to play Aussie rules. We used have to take our young son miles to get him into a team. In the end he opted for soccer which I never understood even after the few years he played it. Origin was a non event in our house. We were watching 360 and League teams ready for this week's AFL matches.
