Looking good Liam! I guess you'll be wearing that to the odd home game or two next year?

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Every one probably.

K | 1143 comments I am that rare kind of Aussie who just does not enjoy sports. Sorry folks, I know them are probably fightin' words. Lol.

Sally906 | 88 comments So Liam - what's the significance of the jersey? Please explain :)

Oh and the number 18

Nice pic BTW :)

Well done Suzanne:)

It's Port Adelaide's heritage guernsey - the prison bars/wharf pylons which they weren't allowed to have in the AFL because of Collingwood.

And 18 is Kane Cornes' number, who is awesome :P

★ Jess | 3071 comments Nice guernsey Liam! Definitely time I get the standard home guernsey for myself. I've just been tossing up on the number for ages. Might settle on number 8 :)

How cute Suzanne! Great experience for them!
My two boys played cricket, starting from U8. Older one loved it and still plays grade cricket but younger one thought it was boring and dropped out after a few years. Had to agree there - all those long afternoons sitting on the sidelines!

My nephew was headhunted by an Essex Cricket club - all expenses paid by the club for the English cricket season. He has just finished his 3rd term and has now decided to stay in England. He has got a job and everything now and will play for the club again next year. He is 21. Don't think he'll ever make an international team but he is making a living out of it at county level :)

Thanks Carolyn. They thought it was fun, but I forgot to tape the a afternoon session and they were dancing in the sidelines! My boy loves his cricket but it's a big commitment as he plays at rep level.. Lots of patents have been through it so it's my turn now.... No comment! My my husband does nearly all of it.

Isn't that great! Must have been an amazing experience to be chosen like that Sally, and still so young. I bet he's got lots of cricket stories to tell.

My older boy played reps for a few years and loved it. I never got the hang of scoring (clever, eh?) so my main role was helping to provide afternoon tea for the home games and clapping on the side lines. Hubby used to score and sometimes umpire for the club games.

LOL - I am friends with him on facebook. He is having lots of fun off the field and lots of stories to tell!!! I can see now why he wouldn't let his mum or my mum be friends with him. Aunty Sally keeps stum and can be trusted not to blab. He has a 'special' family one which his mum can see - innocent and acceptable, jokes cricket results and happy snaps!! He's not a bad boy at all but a typical single young male let loose in Europe :)

Oh you.

How about that fixture! Swans and Hawks at home in the first few rounds.

message 1024: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments We have some awesome timeslots and I can't wait to get along to some of those blockbusters. Difficult fixture, but to quote Heisenberg: "I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot and you think that of me? No. I am the one who knocks."

Oh Alex! That is such a wonderful story... in a tragedy such as this, those memories will be doubly precious. And there will be a lot of people like you with great stories to tell like yours. Thanks for sharing that with us..

message 1034: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4436 comments Alex, thanks for sharing your personal story. My boy went to batting training today.. There was a lot of cricket left in Phil, he was on the threshold for so much from the looks of things. It's so very sad for everyone that knew him, and cricket in general.

message 1035: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments That is a lovely memory, Alex! And I agree, the bowler will be feeling awful, although certainly not his fault. Also extending deep sympathy and prayers for his family and team-mates...

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) On a lighter note, Port boys are in Dubai. Train hard fellas.

message 1039: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6927 comments Okay it is only NAB cup but good to see footy back on the screen. Looking forward to the season proper.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Agreed, even with stupid supergoals and rubbish.

message 1041: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6927 comments Funny how different last nights came with West Coast and Carlton was to the night before. Much more stop and start. We ended up turning it off. A shame for Eric McKenzie, that injury doesn't look good. Hate seeing players injured especially in NAB cup or practice matches.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Was watching Port play themselves, was good to see the teal running around again.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) He was doing some good work, too. God I hope that ASADA thing doesn't get him banned :/ would be just our luck.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Bugger about the weekend, close game though!

Hopefully Port can run out the game a bit better against the Swans on the weekend.

Also the Crows are already rating themselves. And they said WE were getting cocky...

Needless to say I hope you're wrong on this one, Liam. But either way it should be a good game as it usually is between Sydney and Port. Both Port and Freo played well last weekend, It was a gripping match.I must admit I had picked Port to win so was hoping they would.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Yeah I did pretty poor with my tips last week. Didn't see the Crows win coming, did tip the Bulldogs though.
