The Sport Spot - Comment here on what's happening in the world of Aussie sports!
Agree some silly decisions in the Port match from both teams. And they spoilt my perfect footy tips score, but that's footy.
Ive never screamed at the TV during a Port game so much as I did on the weekend. That second quarter we played a total of 4 good minutes, and still managed to stay within 25 points against a top 4 team in Melbourne. Most frustratingly, however, was the last quarter. We had all the momentum and kicked 9 points. Stupid decision making and poor set shots cost us. We genuinely had the chance to roll over the top of Essendon which would have been awesome. Imagine if we knocked off the third-placed team in Melbourne, claiming 6th spot at the same time (potential home elimination final).
Oh well. When you consider we finished 15th last year and now have the genuine ability to knock off top 4 teams interstate, you have to be pleased. Very bright immediate future.
Also, how good was Hartlett's 70m goal. Bring on the Hawks.
What angered me the most was Essendon fans and media complaining abot Watson being booed all week. Then they boo Westhoff (excellent, fair bump) and Monfries (was offered up as a trade) all game. wtf.
Michael wrote: "Indeed bring on the Hawks Jess. We threw it away in that last quarter and had enough of the play to win it. May even finish higher as i have heard all week that the Bombers could have there points ..."Nah doubt it. But consequently everyone moves up a spot. So had we won on the weekend, we could be looking at 5th place. However, Im still not confident on actually making the finals. It'd be lovely if we do
Westhoff is out of the Hawk game due to his striking Hooker at the end of the first (?) quarter. Tried to appeal to reckless, but apparently they decided it was intentional, whereas Shaun McKernan's elbow-to-the-face of Brad Sheppard was deemed reckless. The match review panel is an absolute joke.
Glad Port wasn't embarassed on the weekend, Cornes being reported was so soft though. I swear it seems like the league is out to get Port sometimes.
To be fair, that shouldn't have been a close game, Port dropped their game horribly in the second half.
Agreed, shouldn't have been close at all. But at least we broke the hoodoo and Etihad. And showed we can withstand a big comeback, unlike other teams. It was good to see Butcher kick a few as well :) We just need to keep winning and stay one game ahead of Carlton.
We should win against the Lions. But then again, we haven't done well in "should win" games this year. Crossing fingers, at least we don't have any rubbish bans after last night.
★ Jess wrote: "Should have just elbowed the guy in the face and got off with 2"That's probably what is pissing me off the most. I don't care if it was accidental or not, elbowing someone in the face is worse than a hip and shoulder, no matter how solid.
I thought the Port fans screaming bias were stretching last week, but now I'm not so sure. Victoria seems mighty intent on knocking key players out. Jonas is very integral to Port's defense, I'm very worried about how we'll handle it without him.
On the positive side this gives Hobsch a chance to come back into the side. But I agree, Jonas is crucial to that back-line. It should be a good game on the weekend though.
I liked that both Freo and the Crows have got Port to play in their last few games, and Ricciuto basically said that it was a given that they would both beat Port.Glad to see he hasn't become less of a tool since he went from playing to commentating.
Yeah Port's ability to just lock the game down whenever it got into Brisbane's attacking half was amazing. Just nowhere for them to go.Our defence still seemed weaker for the lack of Jonas, I'm going to be crossing I have next week.
Pretty much all the favourites won this weekend, including my team - Sydney. Good win to Geelong and another win for Port. A few people on this list pretty happy.
I would be ecstatic if Port got into the finals. Not with any mind to winning of course (although with the way we've fared against some of the big names, I don't think it would be a massacre at least), just the confidence that we are a top side again, no matter what Crows fans think :P
No Brenda isn't;( Cats didn't play well... Only 10 points but look at their win last week! Not consistent this year:( I think it looks like Swans and Hawks GF...what do you think?
I would have thought Hawks and Essendon, but Essendon are getting penalised for substance abuse aren't they? Losing points.
Thought you'd like that Michael. After a weekend with a couple of upsets I was glad to see Sydney get home too.
What an amazing game!! Fitting for the last AAMI showdown, absolutely top shelf.I'd given up with 5 minutes left, but credit to them, jesus christ Port lifted to the challenge.
I was at the game with one of my friends (a crows supporter). We were sitting right next to the crows cheer squad and I'd given up with 5 minutes left. That was amazing. The best game of football I've ever seen! Monfries' goal was incredible and Chad Wingard is an amazing player.
★ Jess wrote: "My throat hurts"Mine too and I wasn't even there. My neighbours probably not very happy with me today.
God I wish I had been there. :c

The best game of football I..."Oh Jess, That must have been interesting as the score got closer. Never give up hope that's what I say.
Michael wrote: "Your boys are playing well Dale. Might even be a smokey for top spot. As for Port i apsolutly loved it. :D"Brenda wrote: "An exceptional game by Port, and a great win by the Swans too..."
Thanks Brenda. It certainly makes for an interesting last four weeks before finals., Michael Feel like all spots could change again. Time will tell how the eight ends up. Meanwhile another tough game against Collingwood esp. given their big win on weekend.
Liam's rage at the local media continues! Sports report on Channel 10 on the Showdown, ten minutes on how Ben Rutten has signed a new contract with the Crows, 5 minutes on how it was a really close game and it was a shame the Crows lost, 2 sentences from Hamish Hartlett saying he was happy with the win.I hate everything.
You have to learn to ignore them Liam...it's the same over here. Because we are in League country, there is rarely any AFL and it frustrates my husband no end!! So just think of it as their loss!
True Brenda. A little better than it used to be yeas ago. At least AFL sometimes gets a mention. But nothing great. I get my footy news from the internet.
★ Jess wrote: "Two days later, Im still ecstatic with the win."I've watched the last quarter about five times :P also this is a brilliant video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEG4Yk...
No surprises today. If Port had dug in their heels a bit in those first two quarters I reckon we could have clinched it. 6 goals 4 versus 1 goal nil in the last quarter is a fantastic result.Best finishing team in the comp!
As a Collingwood supporter I have to agree with you Michael and double bonus for us as we've just beaten Sydney!!!

I had to have a good calmdown afterwards and remind myself where we started the season and where the Crows started the season and be happy with the current result.
