Emily E (emily_e1) | 347 comments Ended up with 40,223 word at the end of NaNo :)

I hurt all over from yesterdays write-a-thon! Not quite a winner on my first attempt (meant to be 50K words) but still a personal best, plus I like the story so will continue (in less intensive bursts!)

Phew! Looking forward to picking up a book again...

Patricia Puddle (trishapuddle) | 86 comments If anyone is holidaying in or near Forster this summer, call in and see Elvis at the Doll Museum on Failford Road. He's live-size and looks real, plus he sings and greet you when you walk in the door. There is so much Elvis memorabilia and gifts as well as toys at really low prices. Plus it's a coffee shop, a fairy garden, and every doll ever made in the Museum. Plus the lady mends dolls and toys for a low price. Absolutely fabulous.

The first term of english will be writing short stories, reading 1984 and studying the film The Social Network. Sounds like a decent term :D

And I get tommorow and the day after off, before Friday is my last day of year 10!

message 4486: by Geoff (new)

Geoff Woodland | 313 comments Is it any wonder Australian book shops are having problems. I was on Angus & Robertson’s online site earlier looking for ‘specials’ and came across my own book ‘Ice King’. It is on sale for $43.95! Even as the author I must say that this price is stupid for a paperback novel.
I inadvertently clicked twice on the ‘buy’ button, because I wanted to see if this included postage (it does), but on the second click I was told that under Australian copy write laws I am not allowed to purchase more that one copy!
The book is sourced from Canada, why Canada? I have no idea, as I haven’t had anything to do with Canada with regard to ‘Ice King’, plus I live in Sydney and anyone in Australia can buy it from me (signed if they wish) for $13, plus postage (about $6.60). Or an unsigned copy from Book Depository is ‘only’ $19.92, including the postage, compare this to Angus & Robertson’s $43.95. Who mentioned competition, there isn’t any, Book Dep. wins all the time.
Rant over :-o)

Geoff I know exactly what you mean. My book sells for $24.50 on the Book Depository, I've been selling signed copies for $20, and the Angus and Robertson website has my book listed at a whopping $63.95!! Considering they get it from the publisher at under $25, that's nearly a $40 profit if anyone is actually (and I have to say) fool enough to spend over $60 on a paperback by a first-time author. That's an insanely ridiculous price hike - I actually feel embarrassed that they've put that price on my book.

I know, and it's so wrong. When I worked for them I was angry that they put the internet price at $44.95 and the instore price at $32.95, but this just tops the lot! I can't believe they could imagine anyone paying that amount. If they're trying to make money via the net after going into Administration, they're going about it the wrong way...

Yeah, I know most people hunt around for the best price, which is the best thing to do. There's nothing I can do about it, but it's really irritating what A&R are doing. I'm ranting, I know, but it is so very very wrong...

message 4493: by Neko (new)

Neko Wow both those prices for Ambers and Geoffs books are maaaad crazy prices from A&R :|

It'd be interesting to know how many have sold from A&R with that price. I also find it irritating cause A&R will profit hugely if the books sell for that much when really, i think that all that "extra" profit should go to the writers.

If that sounds confusing sorry..I'm not exactly sure how to word myself..Just shocked really!

message 4494: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

You're right Laura...if the extra money went to the authors, it wouldn't be quite so bad, but of course it doesn't!!

message 4495: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) FYI,

In what may seem like a multiple identity problem, I have decided to change my screen name back to Dhitri - just to make it easier to people to address me by my actual name :)

And I've changed my profile pic as I constantly get clucky looking at the old one (for when my daughter was still 6 weeks old). I miss the fresh smell of newborns but can't afford time and financial wise to have another one, so I go off sniffing other people's newborn, lol.

message 4496: by [deleted user] (new)

the Dymocks at Paccas (mall on the coast for those not used to the name haha) used to be pretty good but slowly got worse and worse...and now is gone.

we have a new local independent store in shoutport now and its really good, has sales and pretty decent prices for a store. some are still more then BD but I got a hard cover of The Ask and the Answer brand new for 5 bucks there! so when I can I like to buy from there. plus everyone who works there is super nice
