★ Jess | 3071 comments Oh, and we got more exam results back today. This time it was english.
It was an essay on Lord of the flies & what techniques Golding used to portray power/weakness.
It was marked against 3 criteria: Content (knowledge & understanding), Language use and organization (paragraphing etc...)
I got 10/10, 10/10 and 10/10.
Full marks and top in the class :) Very, very very happy with that :D :D :D

Ohhhhhh!!..But I do know what it is like Brenda, as a child living at St. Mary's oposite the high school in an old & very drafty 'workers cottage, huddled in blankets with my 2 brothers on the lounge watching the lino rise & fall about a 'foot' off the floor when the westerley's blew down from the blue mountains, also the 'bathroom was a 'add-on' of just timber frame & single fibro sheeting, earth floor with painters planks running beside the bath, an old wood chip water heater we had to chop wood for, we had to undress at the door way then spint to the bath where all 3 of us would bath together sprint back inside to dry & dress & try to warm up, we had no heaters, fireplaces etc, just quite a few blankets.

thats great!
a couple of years back I was in a play to help promote mental illness, got invited to a big seminar a couple of months back because of it, was great to see so many people so bent on changing views and getting the issues out there.

Just wish my school hadn't shut down the foundation our grade made.

9.30am...flano shirt off, sitting in the patio, singlet, summer pj bottoms & thongs, cup of tea listening to Macca, sunbirds & lorikeets going from tree to tree in our back yard, sun shining, slight sea breeze ....BEAUTIFUL...(-:

Why I Live where I Live (for Macca)

Well G’day Ian my dear friend
I’ve listened to you now for years.
I’d like to mention if I could,
you’ve brought me laughter and some tears.

So I’ve put this together and,
it’s something I would like to give
and share with you and listeners,
why I like living where I live.

I love it here in our far north
and Cairns is where I now reside
where poets always find their muse
and most of life is lived outside.

Our Winter can’t be classed as cold
though sometimes reaches eight degrees
and Mexicans just can’t believe
what we call ‘cold’ or ‘nippy breeze’.

Most mornings here in paradise
are mesmerizing pinkish blues
then in the evening at days end
we finish with light purple hues.

Now Ian, here in my backyard
where rainforests and beaches meet
you’ll stroll the winding forest tracks
within a tropical retreat.

Where Blackbean and the Silky Oak
Red Cedar and the Kauri pine,
Cathedral fig and Quondon trees
have grown as long as ‘Old man time’.

There’s golden Penda and tall Gums
with ancient Elkhorn by the score,
there’s scaly tree ferns everywhere
while crystal creeks wind through the floor.

And if you watch with eagle eye
you’ll spot some Bennets Kangaroos,
might hear a white lipped tree frog croak
or screeching sulpur Cockatoos.

While higher in the canopy
a Lesser Sooty Owl now darts
and swoops towards a white tail rat
who senses danger and departs.

And all the while there’s butterflies
like Birdwing and the swallowtail,
Ulysses and Helena Brown’s;
don’t all of them just seem so frail?

Boyd’s dragon and the Bandicoot,
the Swiftlet and the Lorikeet
all these creatures share our forest,
and every single one’s unique.

I haven’t mentioned golden shores
which stretch as far as one can see
or swimming on our untouched reef
or named the life beneath the sea.

There’s many more that I could name
and so much more that I could share
but why not view this for yourself
our beauty is beyond compare.

I’d like to keep this poem short
but it’s a little hard to do
because there’s so much beauty here
I want to share with all of you.

And while I sit surrounded by
a world that’s still so primitive,
I hope I gave a little glimpse
Why I love living where I live.

A book about mental health issues, and how Emma Forrest overcame it all. She was diagnosed as bipolar at a young age, and she struggled through adolescence as the self-destructive behaviours of suicidal ideation and cutting herself with razors manifested, which became worse after her move to New York at age 22 Your Voice in My Head: A Memoir by Emma Forrest

Couldn't agree more. Mental illness is hidden away whereas it should be out and about being supported.

I'm definitely up for National Plum Pudding Day (love it) and Festival of Sleep Day (for obvious reasons). I'm putting my daughter in for Get a Different Name day (cos she just changed her name from Louise to Jai). And my eldest daughter can have Stay At home Because You're Well day cos she needs a day off.

Awe that makes me sad Maggie. I hope my daughter sticks with Louise.

Monya (monyamary) Laura wrote: "Mines 4 months away..But i don't get to have my own birthday...I share it with my sister. Born exactly the same day but 3 years apart..lol"

Family birthdays come in clumps quite often! My Dad's was on the same day as his mother-in-law's. My mum's was a day before MY mother-in-law's. My husband's brother's is Christmas Eve.

And, I promise this was not arranged, our four kids were born on June 16, June 17, August 25 and August 27. And I had a miscarriage of one that was also due at the end of August.

June is my horror month. Besides son and daughter, my father-in-law's used to be June 12, one daughter-in-law is June 14 (the one married to the son born on the 16th, naturally), AND another daughter-in-law is also June 16. My daughter on June 17th shares hers with one of my brothers. And a grandson is June 22. Whew.

Monya (aka Mary)

Most people think it is sad she changed her name and that it must upset me, yet it doesn't. And Jai suits her somehow.
