Late last year I was going to Europe in the term 3 holidays. Coincidently, one of my best friends was leaving the same time as me.

In order to maintain this as an all ages group, the moderators & myself ask that members please be mindful of their language when posting, we love a good stoush amongst members but won't accept explicite language which is likely to offend other members. Thanks in advance:)

message 3073: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 89 comments I feel such a fool! Tripped over the uneven pavement near work yesterday and landed on my knees an elbows, all of which are grazed. My toe got wrenched and my new glasses got scratched. I am not happy! A very nice gentleman helped me up but I was so mortified I limped off into work without paying him a lot of attention. I remember thanking him but just wanted to hide. Knees sore today and toe throbbing thinking of writing to city council to complain about the footpath ( a few people have gone over there) I wonder if I could ask for them to repair my glasses?

Oh Sally, you poor thing! I hope you didn't break your toe! You'll be aching and sore for awhile..hot radox bath might help? Yes I would agree about writing to the council! They should fix the pavement before others fall, and maybe break an ankle or something worse! Hope you feel better soon.

I would like to recommend a book to everyone to read..a book I found out about today. It's so hard to contemplate the sort of thing that happened to Sarah, happening in this day and age. It will and is, making a lot of people very angry! Sarah's Last Wish

We'll have to see who reads it first, so we can review it, and get different opinions. I've reserved it at my library...#6 in the queue!!

And David....he's just cheeky ;D

A.B. Shepherd (abshepherd) | 72 comments Good morning all! I have a small problem. I have no $ to buy books, so I'm limited to what my somewhat small local library carries. They don't have all the newest books and when they get them they get tied up in reserves.

Anybody have any really good, slightly older book recs?

message 3090: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80169 comments Mod
Cheryl, what sort of books do you like to read?

message 3091: by A.B. (new)

A.B. Shepherd (abshepherd) | 72 comments It's easier to say what I don't like - lol. I don't like political thrillers. I saw the rec for Sarah's Last Wish and while that looks like a good book, it looks like it might be too sad for me at the moment. So I don't like books that are really sad.

But other than that I like just about anything. Fantasy/paranormal, romance, adventure, humor, YA. Loved the Tomorrow series by John Marsden. Loved the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Have read the HP series, the Twilight series. Just started the Sookie Stackhouse series, but am waiting on the next book from the library.

Does that help? :)

message 3092: by A.B. (new)

A.B. Shepherd (abshepherd) | 72 comments OH! And I loved the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare too!

Cheryl, have you read anything by Tim Winton? Breath, Cloudstreet, Dirt Music.
One of my favourite series at the moment is the In Death series, by JD Robb. (Nora Roberts' alter ego)
There's a lot of books there, and your library would have them. You don't have to read them from the start, I haven't, but a lot will tell you that you should, to learn the characters as they grow... Naked in Death is the first one, followed by Glory in Death then Immortal in Death is the third one...there's over 40 altogether :) You can actually google them, and get the whole lot of them listed in published order!

Kate Morton is another popular author, Di Morrissey....

Good luck, let me know if you need any more help. Browse the threads, see what people are reading, look at the individual book thread discussions, http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_... you might find something there you can pick up from the library :)

Also, you can go through my books if you like, might help:)

message 3094: by A.B. (new)

A.B. Shepherd (abshepherd) | 72 comments Thanks for the recs Brenda. I have read Breath by Tim Winton and had mixed feelings about it. I've read a lot of Nora Roberts and Nora Roberts writing as JD Robb - the In Death series, but not all of them. Good books!

I'll check out your other suggestions. I appreciate the help! :)

Mish | 3601 comments Hi Cheryl, I love the most of the books you’ve mentioned here. My friend is currently reading the ‘Tomorrow’ series by John Marsden. She is really enjoying them and said she’s going to pass them on me when she’s finished. Can’t wait to read them

If you like Adventure/fantasy for YA you could try ‘Obernewtyn’ series by
Isobelle Carmody They are older books so u should be able to find them in your library. It's a very good series

Cheers :)

message 3096: by A.B. (new)

A.B. Shepherd (abshepherd) | 72 comments Thanks Mish! I'll check them out. :)

message 3097: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked Darkfall byIsobelle Carmody more then the other series...it feels a little bit older...but she hasn't finished the trilogy yet because of all the hype about the Obernewtyn series she had to put it on hold...makes me upset :(

if you like a good fantasy book The Way of Shadows is pretty awesome

message 3098: by Mish (new)

Mish | 3601 comments Thanks Melanie, I haven't read any of her other books beside Obernewtyn. I'll check out Darkfall

Cheers :)

★ Jess | 3071 comments As you know I had mid year exams last week. Today we got 3 out of 6 results back. However, those 3 were: maths, science & humanities. The ones I thought I did worse in. Still waiting on english, PE & french, which I think will be my best.

We dont need to mention hums & maths, but I am pleased to share my science results: 5/6...very happy :)

You should read The Book Thief. Its the only book I can confidently recommend to anyone in the world.
Hmm...adventure/fantasy YA novels. I would recommend The Alchemyst by Michael Scott, Everlost by Neal Shusterman or The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness (this book is friggin' amazing.)
