Oh yeah!! :[]

I agree with Michael Jools, you must be proud, as I am I, for their efforts and courage.

I was so pleased, and extremely proud to find their names on that petition as it is something I would have done too :)

Oh no, you're not a closet hoarder like me, I hope Marianne! I think I do need a professional declutter come to think of it. My DH wants to keep all his stuff but wants me to get rid of all my stuff. What to do! Decisions are no longer my strong point. "
LOL, Laureen, it sounds like an observation by a comedian that DH and I often refer to: Its my "stuff" but it's your "shit".

I am not a Star Wars fan not having seen any previously but my nephew is an avid fan so I thought I would see this one.
I loved it! Had to get the lowdown on who the aged characters were but it was easily explained.

That's it!

A psychic once told me I was a leader in the original suffragette movement in Britain in a past life. Can't believe it though but the suggestion peeked my interest in the subject. I looked up the name she gave me and couldn't find a reference.

We desperately need support to save the remaining koala population in Australia, and sadly Tweed Shire Council isn't making a reasonable effort to offer protection. We live next to an environmental protection zone (koala sanctuary) that, if TSC and a rich developer (who seems to always profit from council decisions) have their way, will soon be a concrete jungle. Sadly, it's one of the few remaining places where koalas can exist safely, and it's being destroyed - along with tourism opportunity and the lifestyles of people who love nature and want to live in harmony with it.
Would you consider helping to save our iconic native fauna by telling a councillor who was elected on an environmental protection platform that supporting commercial interests over protection of our iconic wildlife isn't good enough?

The power of the petition

Laura Daniele, Women's Suffrage Petition, ('Monster Petition') 1891. Courtesy of the Parliament of Victoria.
An example of the extraordinary efforts made by Australian women to win the vote is the efforts made to gather over 40,000 signatures in support of women's suffrage on two important petitions. Covering much of the nation, women suffrage campaigners travelled thousands of miles knocking on doors and eventually getting around 1% of the entire population of Australia to sign.
The first petition sought that 'Women should Vote on Equal terms with Men', and was gathered during 1891 when a few dedicated women including Marie Kirk, Vida Goldstein and Annette Bear-Crawford, literally went from door to door, eventually gathering almost 30,000 signatures from women all over Victoria and from all walks of life. It was presented to Parliament in September 1891.
Now one of Victoria's archival treasures, the document is known as the 'Monster Petition' because of its size. At 260 metres long it takes three people three hours to unroll it from one spool to another. Although this petition did not have an immediate effect on the voting rights of women in Victoria, it was an early and important stepping stone towards women's participation in politics, not just in Victoria but for all of Australia.

*More info can be found by googling the names of Marie Kirk, Vida Goldstein and Annette Bear-Crawford.

I dream about that all the time- I thought 'I wish there was a cookbook for these novel collections!'
Well I just discovered a website that does just that! It's call The Little Library Cafe
Kate has taken the dishes from various books - even some favorite children's stories - and developed recipes for them. Her blog features blurbs from the stories and a commentary including her rendition of the dish. There's a recipe and lots of photos too! Take a look at this, I'm sure the foodies amongst you will thoroughly enjoy it!

We have had a delightful few hours with a visit from our daughter - she doesn't get a lot of time to visit and just chat and today was it. A lovely time:)

Thanks Sally, I don't swap jobs very often so was a bit confused thanks for your help.

I came back from Inverell today... rain to Walcha - then over the mountains and down Bucket Way with fine weather thank the gods :D

I only just made my challenge last year and realise I read a lot of non-fiction books for research purposes and don't finish them once I gain the information I was reading for. I also start a lot of fiction that I struggle to get past the first few chapters. I must be reading the wrong fiction LOL

Oh I love it - am following the blog now. Looked at the one for Charlotte's web scared it might have been for roast pork (lol) but it was for blackberry pie :)

Still I've had 4 weeks off do can't complain too much :)

Personally...I love it, great for reading too! ;)

Homemade waffles for breakfast this morning..yummy with cocoa yoghurt on them.
Pouring here in Newcastle with warnings and alerts of flash flooding to come! But I wish we could send it down to Lorne and Wye River too Bette...those poor people!

Today, if someone came to the door, I could actually let them in without feeling awful about how it looks. So Brenda, Veronica, feel free to come and get your books, I will show you my TBR room and my library. Of course, by the time you factor in your petrol costs, the books will not be a bargain any more, LOL.
I worked out we haven't had a paid cleaner for over a year!! Our last few were either unreliable or couldn't follow instructions.
One good thing: while I was tidying up I found a piece of paper with the contact details of a woman who used to clean our house with our best ever cleaner before she (had the nerve to!!) retire. She has her own cleaning business and is coming to do a quote this week. I have better things to do with my time off (like read!!).

I read a book once were the narrator was talking about an apple pie his mother was making. I could smell it and just about taste it. When it's written that well it sticks in your mind.

It's a good feeling when you get it finished. My daughter is cleaning out her room and she told me to go away. I kept saying " you can't throw that out, your grandmother gave you that". I'm what is called a sentimental hoarder. Can I blame my mother? She never kept anything :)

"
That's really good Melissa! Great fun isn't it? :)
Did you listen to a book while you were doing it?

her health,
We've all been there at one time or other Laureen:)
I think it helps to be a glass half full girl :)

I'm loading my kindle with books, and am looking forward to digging into them each night in the hotel/s. Well, perhaps not after the skiing bits, as I usually just want to fall asleep :)

Thanks, Brenda, I'm so looking forward to it!
I've also just finished the first draft of a new book, which is always nice. It's completely different to the Frontier ones, so it's been a nice change. I've now put it away to 'percolate' for a couple of weeks, and might do a bit of work on it while on holiday.
