I recommend it - just for the experience

I bought 3 bars (wel not bars but camel shapes) back here to Oz and took 1 to work. Just broke up the chocolate and put it in a bowl without saying what it was. Everyone liked it. When I told them what it was a few said it was horrible and they ate it to be polite - but one of those had 3 bits before she decided that - lol

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Laureen (and Lorraine) Not to be a wet blanket but remember to inform your GP/medical practitioner before beginning a new herbal remedy. I have no issue with such remedies; I have used Mintec successfully for nearly a decade to help with colon issues, also valerian for insomnia.

@Melissa and Laureen. I wish only the best for you both

Another thing I just thought I'd mention, especially to Lorraine and Laureen - don't be sharing too much personal information here - the web has long reaching fingers - it's not a good thing to put your personal "stuff" out there:)

Thank you B. I have long been into research regarding health issues and whilst, if you have a good GP, it is absolutely important to ask if it is safe to take especially if you are on other medications such as blood pressure tablets.

However, I have learnt to trust my instincts. Has anybody heard of Lime Disease? Yes, it is supposed to be an American illness contracted from deer ticks. The medical profession here do not recognize it as a disease that can be contracted within Australia, but I believe my sister has it. After the very severe Bundaberg floods of 2013 when she lost both her home and business premises to flood water. I won't go into details but she became a very sick woman and the GP and specialist could not diagnose the cause but advised the only remedy was an operation.

Because the medical profession does not recognize the disease in Australia, there is no accurate testing for an Australian form of lime disease caused by our own ticks one of which bit my sister during the floods. This does not take away my respect for our highly skilled medical profession and one must proceed with caution when approaching alternative medicine but sometimes AM is the only place to go and there are some practitioners who are brilliant in their field.

You caught me Kathryn:) Thats why I do it late. We eat mince pies and Xmas pudding over Xmas . In a day or so we start a little routine of taking books, Chrissie cake and coffee out into the garden every morning.

Nice! We don't do the mince pies or pudding (I only occasionally do mince pies, and I did a pudding once or twice, and decided I liked my cake better!) but we did have trifle and cheesecake on Christmas Day (and a lot more if we spend the day with some friends as we usually do!) so not too much cake was eaten on Christmas Day. Just a small slice for morning tea!

Hope the weather picks up for you!

Cake is always "after" for us too - no one else likes it, so hubby and I enjoy it when everyone else has gone;0

The covered area would work if it's raining Phrynne....I'll be crossing my fingers for you that it's not raining the rest of the week;)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3569 comments Fruit Mince pies! Yum! I made a dozen, but the family consumed them all on Christmas Eve. Fortunately the Christmas Cake is still available for consumption, and I reckon it's the best one I've ever made - fruity and moist :)

I have to say I've been loving the cool dampness of the Upper Hunter today. And no work for a week, so I'm looking forward to a bit of reading and some steady writing over the next few days.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Kathryn Yum, trifle, can I come next year please?

@Laureen I saw an interesting excerpt on ABC show Catalyst about Lyme disease and how we don't have accurate measures for testing for it in Aust. It's all a bit scary as it does not sound like a pleasant disease to contract at all! This might confirm your theory: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-10-17...

So you need to make your individual trifles next year three days before Christmas, Lorraine!! That way you still don't have an excess and hubby gets his trifle with all the flavours gone through it!

Thanks again B. Very interesting. I must have missed that Catalyst show which I often watch. Thank goodness there is one researcher taking the thousands of undiagnosed long term diseases seriously. There are many people in Australia that believe they have a form of Lyme.

message 24849: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Cobcroft | 58 comments Didn't make a Christmas cake this year. My mother's illness and death took up all my time and energy and suddenly it was Christmas and I'd done nothing to prepare (except buy gifts, which happily I did while travelling earlier in the year). Bought cake just doesn't do it for me. It's not getting eaten, so I guess the family agrees. My recipe was handed down from my husband's aunt and I've made it nearly every Christmas for 40 years.

message 24850: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Lorraine Bought cake never does it for me either:( You had good reason for not getting your cake done this year. I hope next year is better for you. Losing your mum is just the worst thing; my mum's anniversary is NYE so this is always a sad time of year for me.
