Good for you! I don't envy you that Bette!

It was a stinking horrid weather of 38C+ here yesterday, but in SA I hear the bitumen on the roads was melting! We are expecting 36C today and I don't think I'll be leaving the apartment. At our Christmas dinner yesterday at my sister's, I ended up waist deep in their pool. Sadly was wearing brand new linen pants. Yes, I got nuts in the heat and jumped in! Not sure how pants will have held up.
Thank goodness Bette, that's good news! Glad you ended up in the pool...but you should have changed first! Lol
My hubby's cousin and her husband lost their farm yesterday..house, sheds the lot - in the really bad fires at Scotsburn near Ballarat. So much devastation happening at the moment, and it's not going to get better today.

B the BookAddict wrote: "@Brenda That is just terrible news. I haven't seen any news so didn't know we had fires down here. But it doesn't surprise me. My b-i-l couldn't come away with us as he coordinates the police with ..."
It's awful Bette - apparently up to 10 houses have been lost so far...

Was just reading how a homeless man already out on bail for lighting fires has been charged with lighting one of the current fires near Epping!

Dreadful news and especially so close to Christmas makes it seem even worse., Brenda.
And I agree with others, judges need to take stronger stance on arsonists.

Oh Brenda how terrible. Is always terrible to hear about these losses but worse when there is a link - ie close to someone you know.

On another note - late on Friday I sprained my wrist at work. They thought it was broken at first as I couldn't move my fingers but was X-ray should just swollen - no tears which is a good thing apparently. Of course it had to be my right hand!!!
Was very sore yesterday - but is better today in the sense that if I don't move it it doesn't hurt - lol. So minimum posting for a couple of days. But I will be lurking

Hope the wrist improves quickly Sally. Keep it still and know we will be thinking of you. Have to say I could never live where you do with that weather.

Sorry to hear about your wrist - what a rotten thing to happen! Keep resting it so it'll be ready for action on Christmas day;) Glad the rains have started but 98%!!! Oh my goodness:(

So sorry to hear that Brenda, what a tragedy. What will they do?? I can't even begin to imagine how they must feel.
Sally, take care of your wrist. Get some magic voltaren (if you can leave the house in that weather).

The rain must be a fabulous relief. That humidity is worse than Queensland in summer! We had our staff Xmas party on Friday night and I did my knee in getting out of the Maxi Cab. Please don't laugh. I wasn't drunk, just miscalculated the height of the Taxi in the dark. Apparent leaking fluid causing swelling and inflammation and I have a knee brace but I would not come at the crutches that the doctor said I had to have to keep off my leg.
I decided on a walking stick so my husband got one of his golf clubs and turned it upside down. Perfect length and works really well. :)

Thanks Brenda, I can't drive at the mo so I hope so too!

Luckily, I am at an age where my children organise Christmas. I just have to get there! Lol. I have the Grand kids' gifts organised but we have to work right up to and including New Year's Eve. We always have a stressful time leading to Xmas with getting orders out.
The sad bit is my Mum is in a Nursing a Home with what appears to be the latter stages of Alzheimer's/dementia. I have always visited her twice a week but now I can't drive. All my siblings live in another city. It's not so bad really, because she can't remember my visits. It is such an awful disease!
Oh no! You poor thing...I sympathise completely - both my parents suffered with it. It's horrible!

Rotten news about your wrist, Sally, but I guess at least it keeps you out of Christmas day washing the dishes:)

On Saturday, my niece took a wonderful pic of my little g-niece, who has discarded all her clothing, standing in a bucket of water! Then one of her sitting on her sun lounge with her feet in the bucket. Of course, the internet being what it is, I cannot share these photos with you. But I can tell you she looked as cute as a button:)
That's very cute Bette (I agree with not sharing the photos though) and safe journey home:) Hope you don't go anywhere near the fires near Ballarat and surrounds! Who looks after your pets while you're away?

Is sad that the Internet makes it a worry to post some pictures - on the rare occasion my older daughter posts pictures she never shows her children's faces and refers to them as little miss and master 5

That is soooo sad. I really miss the days before so much media activity. When I was a primary school girl, I used to ride my bike 1.5 miles to the bus stop along a country dirt road with trees either side. One day, on my way home, I noticed this hot car travelling behind my bike and saw that there were two young guys with tattoos in the car. I peddled as fast as I could and told my Mum when I reached home.
The next day, I was packed off to school again and the same car was waiting at the bus stop. As I had friends and neighbours who also caught the bus, they didn't do anything, but I rang my Mum from school and she rang the police. They followed the bus home from my school and sure enough, the same car was following the bus.
The police caught the pair and told my mum they had already been in prison for molestation.
This was never released as a story like it would be today. We were just taught right from wrong and instinctively knew when something didn't feel right. My heart goes out to the kids of today who don't know how to re-act when something is "not right".
The news broadcasts make us all so damn worried about our kids. We prevent them from experiencing life. I really think it is best if parents develop the importance of honesty no matter what over avoiding a topic for fear of parental over-reaction and consequences. I can never to claim I was the perfect parent (no such thing) but I know my kids who are now 40ish still value honesty above almost everything.
If you can listen to your children without the over-reacting, you will gain much knowledge which can help you to help them.
Sorry everyone, but this subject is close to my heart and I fear the horror expressed by parents who see news broadcasts of some horrible act, will prevent their children being open with them. Children need to know they will not be judged wanting.

We head back home later today. Had a lovely holiday! Getting back to reality will be hard :)
(Hate to think what state my house will be in, especially since my 22y old son had a Bday BBQ there on the weekend!)

It's overcast and raining here today but blessedly cool! Great for doing all the last minute Christmas preparations :)

@Brenda House-sitter is a friend of my sister's.
Childhood innocence is a thing of the past. I lived in a small place when I was a kid. When it was really hot in summer, the little kids (under 5yr old) walked around in undies and singlet; sometimes even up the street like that!

Safe travels Carolyn:) It's absolutely pouring here now - has been raining all night long - a good steady, fire-putting-out kind of rain:) I hope your house is immaculate and the party boys cleaned up after themselves;)

Safe trip home Carolyn and hope the house is not in too much disarray.

Feeling a bit peevish atm. The holidays have arrived in our town which means I can't take my dog over to the beach, I have to walk abut 45mins round to the designated dog beach:(

Know what you mean Bette, I call my little girl magnet! :)
