B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Here's the Wiki link with some startling facts about size etc: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Au...

Yes, I have some photos too but lord only knows where:)

I seem to remember the wind howled! My g-grandmother had a fruit block out back of Swan Hill and on visits as a child, I remember a few red dust storms there. It ruined the crops, of course. But never, ever thought I'd be in one on SE coast.

Trust me - if a Cyclone Michael ever starts to head for Darwin then I'd be not bunkering down, I'd be packing my bags and leaving town!!!! LOL!

However if you the real Michael came to town you'd be very welcome :)

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments I think we have been terribly lucky to not suffer the large loss of life that other countries do. Perhaps it has something to do with out population not being as dense. A few years ago when we had the Victorian bushfires where more than 100 people were killed, I was on another forum and there were many Americans and a fellow scoffed that the boards there had such an outpouring of grief over so few people. I was mortified by the comment, but guess when you are used to thousands of people being killed every year due to murders and weather events one might become a little Immune to what appear small scale loss of life.

Zoey (rozannen) | 1045 comments Well here in Tassie (up here in the Nth of the State anyway) we have gone from Snowing in the Highlands last week to melting in 33 degrees today. Mother Nature is all a bit messed up I think :)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Pretty hot in Melbourne atm 36C, but I'm in the Dandenong Ranges so it's only about 30C. I am not looking forward to tomorrow's weather, expected 42C. It's our family Christmas Day but we'll have air-con and the pool so I suppose it will be bearable.

It's only 27C down on the coast where I live. What am I doing up here?????? lol:)

LOL! Wasn't cool when we arrived home, but it's lovely inside now. Oh I couldn't manage without the air con. Chloe wanted inside IMMEDIATELY when we got home, and cried because it didn't happen soon enough for her;)

It's hard to believe this time in a week, the presents will be unwrapped, the food will be eaten and the tree bare once more!!! Everyone tired and sleepy, kids cranky, parents trying not to be;) Lol! Grandparents happy when peace and quiet is restored;)

Probably Christmas lunch on the beach would be one that not many other countries enjoy Melissa:) With the comparison of temperatures between Australia and "overseas", you guys would freeze in your swimmers in the waves on Christmas day:)

The poor guys in Adelaide are suffering with overnight temperatures of 32c at the moment Melissa (Michael and others) - which is the equivalent of around 90c in your temps!!!

The US uses Fahrenheit, Canada uses Celsius and Metric. Currently in Vancouver it is 3c

Yeah, I'm convinced mum woke us up at 3 or 4 in the morning, so we wouldn't be awake at 4 in the afternoon. LOL

Funny thing is, my mum suffered from some maddening medical sleep thing where she slept at an unconscious level. But not Xmas Eve or Xmas morning. It was like the spirit of xmas ripped her out of bed. She's almost 70 now, and still last year she was the same. Woke me up at such a ridicouslous time via telephone that I could have throttled her.

When I was younger and going to school, she used to say, "Wake me up, when you get up."

I would wake up, and got to the stage, I would tickle her feet and run. She would sit up, abuse me, then slip straight back down into a comma LOLOL

Mum had some type of hymotherapy years later, which seems to have helped a little, but I have to say, when my daughter was born and she slept through from 6pm and 6am in the morning, I was kind of greatful for genetics.

Carolyn | 9865 comments I've been getting US ads on my GR page while I've been in Hawaii. Some of them are even more bizarre than ours. My favourite is a woman sitting in a dentist's chair smiling with her lips parted looking like she's having a really good time with the dentist's hand and tools hovering over her mouth. It says 'Root canal rewards - get your ninth one free'!

Yay, Dale. I wanna come live at your house. I think the thing I missed most about leaving home was not pillowcase on the end of the bed full of goodies on Christmas morn.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I wonder if I can con myself into giving me a Santa sack on the end of my bed!

My g-niece who's three has just 'got' the whole Santa and present routine. Last night she was spinning like a top in the lounge room with excitement.

My sister says the management should kick him out. We are not the only women staying here without husbands etc. It does make you feel vulnerable, but I'm still feeling p***d off about it. It's marred our holiday here.
