Oh but how timely! ;) ....oh dear, will you be able to get all your books back if you get a new one? I load all of mine onto my ipad as well, for extra insurance. Have you tried rebooting it Phrynne? Or plug into your computer to access settings.

I have tried rebooting. No luck. I will try plugging it into my computer when I have time but the Kindle is very old so I don't have much hope. And I hope I am correct but I believe my books will still be there to reload from Amazon once I register my replacement????????

message 24408: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) Yes Phrynne, the books are stored on the cloud, you will be able to download them. Even on your phone or tablet in the kindle app you can access your whole library. Message me if you have trouble.

I was pretty sure that was the case. So a nice new Kindle for me. Can't wait until Xmas though:)

message 24410: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9865 comments Good timing then Phrynne - gives Santa time to find you a new one :)
You might have to resort to reading old fashioned paperbacks in the meantime though.... ;)

No. Still reading my Kindle books but via the app on my Ipad. Just as effective but not such a user friendly screen as the Kindle.

I had to laugh at all the discussion about avatars. I'm the person who never even looks at them but goes straight to the words giving the name of the person. You can tell I'm not a visual person.

Well you may all be happy to know that I performed CPR on my kindle and it revived! I plugged it in to my PC and its little heart fluttered and it came back to life!!! So my new motto is never give up! At least not on your Kindle:)

message 24417: by [deleted user] (new)

This is great news, Phrynne. I hope your Kindle is recovering well from its near death experience.

Michael that is too funny for words:)
It is recovering well Melissa. I think a day or so in intensive care and then a week of rehab and we should be back to normal

message 24419: by [deleted user] (new)

Phrynne, I hope rehab means adding new books to your Kindle library :p

Carolyn | 9865 comments Glad to hear your kindle has recovered from it's near death experience Phrynne. Might still be time to retire it. It's clearly exhausted from overuse.

message 24434: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9865 comments Another lovely morning here today. I spent most if yesterday at the beach or walking through the beachside parks. There are palm trees growing in the sand on the beach so you can lie and read your book in a little patch of shade under a palm tree right at the water's edge. Perfect!
Off to find the shops today.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Arrived safe and well in Melbourne, barring a sore throat for me as I yapped all the way apparently, lol. Dinner with eldest sister, my niece and grandniece last night which was simply lovely. But the bestest part ever was seeing my little three yr old long legged sprite of a g-niece and hearing her 'talk the leg off and iron pot'. In three months she has so far come along, with speech therapy. And I am firmly fixed in her world as Auntie Bedee - which is just fine with me.

Very cute. Have fun, Bette aka Aunt Bedee.

message 24438: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 89 comments Just had a word in my petal-like ear from one of the Met Bureau people upstairs that the monsoonal trough is finally forming and starting to move south - they're not officially calling it yet - but looks like it could be in the area in the next week - so a wet and windy Christmas for Darwin.

Also a slight possibility that the first cyclone of the year could form - either near us in Darwin, the Gulf of Carpentaria - or off the WA coast in the Indian ocean.

Not sure if it is a good or bad thing to have friends in the Met - LOL

Wet and windy will be fine - cyclone won't be.

No we don't want a 'Tracy' but in all honesty anything 3 or lower is no different really to some of the storms you guys get down south, they just go on for hours - it is the Cat 4s and up that can be a bit hairy

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I am hating the new font on GR. for me, it's harder to read. Am also unable to link an author in Comment field. I've left a message in GR feedback Group.

Anyone else dislike the new font?

message 24448: by Carolyn (last edited Dec 15, 2015 11:57AM) (new)

Carolyn | 9865 comments I don't like it either, it seems smaller and harder to read as you say Bette. I also don't like the change in colour of the links from brown to acqua. The contrast isn't as good. Also can't link the authors at the moment except by putting them in manually.

Ace (aceonroam) I think the font is too small and it's no longer black.

I see the Ads are still enormous.
