Hi AllHave been pretty much off the radar all weekend - busy reading for the most part!!!
Yesterday was brunch with my book group buddies - we all exchanged bookish gifts to go under the tree.
Daughter and family are flying to Brisbane on Wednesday to catch up with her in-laws and sister. then they're driving to Newcastle to catch up with my mother and my siblings as well as their cousins on my husband's side of the family.
Then they're spending a couple of days in Sydney where I understand a visit to the musical Matilda is planned along with some indoor parachuting before they fly back on the 23rd!!
Little Miss Lily is being toilet trained she announced she had to do a wee and wanted Nanna to watch her so after she did the deed we raced back to the lounge room and did high 5's with everyone to celebrate her success!!!
So cute!
I like your thinking Jools:) Thank goodness you have a couple of days Carolyn and that you're feeling a lot better today! Fingers crossed you'll be 100% when you leave:)
Good news is...so far so good, it appears that DH has managed to successfully plug the offending leak in the garden fish pond and my fishies are all back in their proper home swimming happily. A lovely sight to behold :D)

Wow busy times for you too Sally, I am meeting up with my buddies for our annual Christmas lunch this Wednesday to do the same ;)
Sounds like your little Lily is getting the gist of the toilet training thing...no more watering the Christmas treee! ;p

Had to be up at 8 for work today but it was super windy (although still hot as hell) early this morning, so couldn't sleep. Ended up sitting up watching Netflix with mum until 3am.Regretting this now.
Saw this today http://www.weather.com/science/nature... now I am afraid of the lizards you guys have in Australia :o

BTW 'gushes' was meant to be fishes!

I dunno if Amazon was having a kindle book sale or I just happened to notice most of my 'Wish List' books had been slashed majorly..I didn't spend over $5US for the books actually most were close to $4US.I don't mind because I'm going away in Jan for a very short stay but having a nice selection of books to take is always a happy bonus...I bought about 8 books.
Melissa wrote: "Saw this today http://www.weather.com/science/nature... now I am afraid of the li..."Bloody monitor lizards. That isn't common, that picture is being hilariously over-publicised down here as well :P
Melissa wrote: "Saw this today http://www.weather.com/science/nature... now I am afraid of the li..."Yeah, but you guys have bears! Eeeek!
@B :( Yuck!! That doesn't sound fun at all. It's a little windy here and not sure what it is like outside atm but we're supposed to get to 27 with rain.

In his book
A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail author Bill Bryson wrote that there were two theories as to what to do when you meet a bear. One was to lie down and play dead, the other was to run as fast as you can. He would opt for the running - as it would give him something constructive to do for the last few seconds of his life!!!

B the BookAddict wrote: "Melissa wrote: "Saw this today http://www.weather.com/science/nature... now I am ..."Also you guys have rattlesnakes! Our venemous Aussie snakes can't detect infrared, only movement so if you stand absolutely still and pretend to be a tree when you see one it should just slide on past you. But your rattlers can detect heat as well so they know you're there. Gives me the creeps!

Not so much in my neck of the woods. They prefer Alberta and Saskatchewan (our prairie provinces).

Fair point; However, most of the bears tend to be afraid of humans and they prefer to stay away from populated areas. It is the Polar Bears that one needs to fear most.

I know in Italy they were having issues with bears coming in to populated areas looking for food. So much they killed a mother that had cubs :(
Michael, you already won :p you guys have all the scary snakes lol.
We saw a drop bear in the Adelaide hills beside the road - must have dropped a fair distance as the trees in the area were very tall!!!
Sally906 wrote: "We saw a drop bear in the Adelaide hills beside the road - must have dropped a fair distance as the trees in the area were very tall!!!"They are the MOST dangerous ones Sally, very little is known about that particular genus which live there, they are very well camouflaged in the Adelaide hills and are known to just drop out of nowhere :[
We used to get teased and scared by stories that the Drop Bear would land on your shoulders, wrap it's arms and legs around your head and squeeze you to death!
You must be referring to the genus Ursus Lapsus. We have them round Sydney too. They are especially active in Spring, the mating season, and we never sit under trees at that time.
Lol, I have heard of these Drop Bears.
Phrynne wrote: "You must be referring to the genus Ursus Lapsus. We have them round Sydney too. I believe the sightings (or should I say 'droppings') in Sydney are fewer and fewer what with urban sprawl and, as a consequence, shorter trees.
Although I have heard of rare droppings in the cbd where the higher buildings afford them the adequate heights for maximum velocity drops. Personally, I have never witnessed one of these city bears..or, Urban Ursus Lapsus but always practice caution (especially in the malls) when shopping in the city. :)
I've always been concerned about Thylarctos Plummetus myself. http://australianmuseum.net.au/drop-bear
Massive storm overhead at the moment, and by the sounds of it, very large hail! Hope everyone is alright!
Haha! We're sitting at Sydney airport with all flights suspended, but it shouldn't be for too long. Spectacular lightening show though!!
Ditto Carolyn, can't wait to hear of your travels. Hope your boys hold down the fort semi-respectfully!
**Waves** to Carolyn...safe trip :)I was wondering if you might have been held up because of the storm...seems to be moving on now.
Leonie wrote: "I've always been concerned about Thylarctos Plummetus myself. http://australianmuseum.net.au/drop-bear"
I could be wrong here but I believe they are the same genus as the South Australian ones Leonie :) Michael might know?

That's a bummer Carolyn! I thought you were a bit quiet.
Isn't it just how it goes..when you are winding down your work and getting ready to have a good time? Hopefully it's just the hidden stress of the end of year obligations mixed with the excitement of your pending holidays travels.
All will be forgotten once you are ensconced on a beach in Waikiki, with a book in one hand and a cocktail in the other! ;D
