Have been pretty much off the radar all weekend - busy reading for the most part!!!
Yesterday was brunch with my book group buddies - we all exchanged bookish gifts to go under the tree.
Daughter and family are flying to Brisbane on Wednesday to catch up with her in-laws and sister. then they're driving to Newcastle to catch up with my mother and my siblings as well as their cousins on my husband's side of the family.
Then they're spending a couple of days in Sydney where I understand a visit to the musical Matilda is planned along with some indoor parachuting before they fly back on the 23rd!!
Little Miss Lily is being toilet trained she announced she had to do a wee and wanted Nanna to watch her so after she did the deed we raced back to the lounge room and did high 5's with everyone to celebrate her success!!!
So cute!
I like your thinking Jools:) Thank goodness you have a couple of days Carolyn and that you're feeling a lot better today! Fingers crossed you'll be 100% when you leave:)

Wow busy times for you too Sally, I am meeting up with my buddies for our annual Christmas lunch this Wednesday to do the same ;)
Sounds like your little Lily is getting the gist of the toilet training thing...no more watering the Christmas treee! ;p

;))

Regretting this now.
Saw this today http://www.weather.com/science/nature... now I am afraid of the lizards you guys have in Australia :o

I'll keep that picture in my mind Jools! Starting to look forward to it!
BTW 'gushes' was meant to be fishes!

Lol!! I was still trying to figure out the gushes :))

Hope you recover quickly Carolyn.

Good for you and the fish, Julie.

I don't mind because I'm going away in Jan for a very short stay but having a nice selection of books to take is always a happy bonus...I bought about 8 books.

Bloody monitor lizards. That isn't common, that picture is being hilariously over-publicised down here as well :P

Yeah, but you guys have bears! Eeeek!

Lol, I'm inclined to agree Sally...being supper to a big bear is not something to be taken lying down! ;[

That was a great movie. So funny.

Also you guys have rattlesnakes! Our venemous Aussie snakes can't detect infrared, only movement so if you stand absolutely still and pretend to be a tree when you see one it should just slide on past you. But your rattlers can detect heat as well so they know you're there. Gives me the creeps!

Not so much in my neck of the woods. They prefer Alberta and Saskatchewan (our prairie provinces).

Fair point; However, most of the bears tend to be afraid of humans and they prefer to stay away from populated areas. It is the Polar Bears that one needs to fear most.

Michael, you already won :p you guys have all the scary snakes lol.

They are the MOST dangerous ones Sally, very little is known about that particular genus which live there, they are very well camouflaged in the Adelaide hills and are known to just drop out of nowhere :[

You must be referring to the genus Ursus Lapsus. We have them round Sydney too. They are especially active in Spring, the mating season, and we never sit under trees at that time.
Lol, I have heard of these Drop Bears.

Ah Phrynne, yes you refer to them by their latin name. I believe the sightings (or should I say 'droppings') in Sydney are fewer and fewer what with urban sprawl and, as a consequence, shorter trees.
Although I have heard of rare droppings in the cbd where the higher buildings afford them the adequate heights for maximum velocity drops. Personally, I have never witnessed one of these city bears..or, Urban Ursus Lapsus but always practice caution (especially in the malls) when shopping in the city. :)

Massive storm overhead at the moment, and by the sounds of it, very large hail! Hope everyone is alright!

I was wondering if you might have been held up because of the storm...seems to be moving on now.

I could be wrong here but I believe they are the same genus as the South Australian ones Leonie :) Michael might know?

That's a bummer Carolyn! I thought you were a bit quiet.
Isn't it just how it goes..when you are winding down your work and getting ready to have a good time? Hopefully it's just the hidden stress of the end of year obligations mixed with the excitement of your pending holidays travels.
All will be forgotten once you are ensconced on a beach in Waikiki, with a book in one hand and a cocktail in the other! ;D
