It was such a good film, Michael. I cried at the end.

Veronica ⭐️ | 2386 comments Today I met the lovely Cathryn Hein and I now have another favourite author. I then met Pamela Hart ( Cathryn was going to be a hard act to follow) but she was as equally lovely.
What is it about Australian female authors they are all so friendly, humble and grateful that you read and enjoyed their books.

How wonderful for you Veronica:) I've met Cathryn Hein and I agree, she is lovely:) I'd love to meet Pamela Hart one day...

You're right, they are so friendly!

Neko ARGH.....Stupid ads on the side of the screen started screaming at me 'Pay Less'...Made me jump out of my skin.....And on top of just having some terrible news..It wasn't the kinda thing I needed.

A co-worker of mine from last year had a heart attack at work :( They are in an induced coma. She is a clean eater, young and all of that....You just never know.

Carolyn | 9865 comments I'm on a pretty packed train going home and my iPad just started shouting "Pay less, pay less" at me. Made me jump and a few passengers glare at me. Now I know what Michael was talking about!
Will have to remember to turn the sound off after watching videos :)

I am glad I have my sound turned off. Sorry to hear about your work collegue. Not sure if it is worth writing to goodreads and asking that 'sound' ads be removed. I doubt they'd listen but at least you'll have tried!

I think the adds can be spooky - I went to the Peters of Kensington web page this morning. I haven't been on it for years as too many lovely things to tempt me, but needed a particular item to give as a Christmas gift.

WELL, this afternoon - I have Peters of Kensington adds on the goodread pages!!! I am SO being stalked!

Missed your post Laura while I was posting mine. That ad is very annoying!
I'm sorry to hear about your colleague. A terrible thing to happen to one so young. I do hope she recovers Ok.

message 24112: by Neko (new)

Neko They think she'll be fine because the first aid trained person was right there and the place is pretty close to the hospital as well.

@Sally - Not a bad idea..It never hurts. It does feel like 'stalking' when you think about it...Ad blockers are great for getting rid of that 'stalked' feeling...It's probably 'Ad Choice' which is watching watch websites you view on the computer. Mine is constantly CoTD..lol

That is sad Nicole, I can't imagine running over an animal and not stopping to check how it was. Your kittens sound very cute - I hope they are big enough to manage without their mother.

Carolyn | 9865 comments Just averted a near culinary disaster in the nick of time! I decided to make Christmas cakes today since I'll be away most of December and had just popped them in the oven when I realised I hadn't added any spice. Aargh! Can you imagine Christmas cake without spice?

message 24124: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments They would have been very sad Christmas cakes, Carolyn :-( I got my cake made about a month ago and it is sitting in the cool(ish) downstairs, well-preserved by the brandy!!!

I put the Christmas tree up today because my next couple of weekends will be busy ones for me. I can't believe I beat December this year! Hope it makes up for all the years when the tree only goes up a week before Christmas!

message 24125: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I can't have a tree because of Miss Poppy, the cat who think that her owner has put the tree there specifically for her to climb! Tried it once, what a mess, trying to extricate a cat from tinsel is really hard, lol:)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Just finished five hours of dusting, vacuuming, not to mention washing. I'd keep going but my hips have started to ache. I could dead-head some roses, god knows I have enough waiting to be done, but it's quite warm outside. I might vege on the lounge instead.

I'm like you, Brenda. I love Christmas but can only deal with some much of the tinsel etc. Up until last year my excuse has always been we had a real tree. Finally succumbed to the other kind. But it'll still be mid Dec before it goes up.

Oh please come to my place!! we sacked our last lot of cleaners and haven't found replacements. Hubby said, well, I'm not working very much so I can do it, but somehow, it doesn't happen. He did some cleaning this week, but generally.....
When I had cleaners, I would tidy everything to its rightful spot the day before so all they had to do was dust, sweep, wetmop, clean loos etc. Then the place would look good for a few days at least. But without that fortnightly deadline, I don't have the impetus to do it:(

Won't be putting one up for ages though...Probably like a week before xmas..haha

I know exactly what you are saying, Laura. Why I resisted for so many years. In the end common sense won but it is not the same without that pine smell.

message 24139: by Carolyn (last edited Nov 28, 2015 11:25PM) (new)

Carolyn | 9865 comments As a child I was severely depressed having a living tree slowly dying in our living room and used to cry when it was eventually thrown away. Yes, I was a strange and maudlin child! In the end my parents gave up and bought a plastic one.

When my kids were little we bought a living tree in a pot and after Christmas it would live outdoors and grow bigger until one year it was too tall for the living room. So we gave up and bought a plastic one. Sigh!!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Marianne We had superb cleaners while in Kiama when my health was not good. But I doubt they'd travel up to Thirroul.

Thank you everyone for commenting on how clean my house looks. I'm glad you liked it, lol. Now, if GR and Skype were interconnected, I could walk the screen around and you could really see it!

I've often thought what fun that would be if GR melded with Skype. But then remembered, I am always on GR from 4am till 7.30am in my pjs, with bed hair, and no make-up. What a shock you would all get, lol.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) The closest I come to making my own Christmas cake is buying a Lions Club one, unwrapping it, dowsing it with brandy and sticky's my nana's sixpences in it:) My sisters know never to ask me!

message 24143: by Carolyn (last edited Nov 29, 2015 12:16PM) (new)

Carolyn | 9865 comments Don't know what your sisters are fussing about Bette! Those Lions Club cakes were pretty good! My Dad used to sell them so we always had one in the house at Christmas.

message 24144: by B the BookAddict (last edited Nov 29, 2015 12:39PM) (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Yes, we did too. I love them but probably won't get one this as I've now gone 'no grain' as well as being vegan. And boy, has that post giving-up-smoking weight started to fall off:)

We have about 2.5 hours left of "spring" which has felt like summer anyway...after those couple of hours it'll be full on summer - three "official" months of heat and all that goes with it...but probably much longer than that :(

message 24147: by Neko (new)

Neko Ahh...It's raining here but was warm this afternoon..Went for a drive in the country and it was absolutely lovely..drove past this massive field of lavender.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Thanks, Brenda. I detest carrying any extra weight and a couple of extra kilos has been the downside of not smoking. I know that being vegan and not eating any grain is not for everyone but it sure suits me and my digestive system.

I have a friend who is vegan - the first time she came over for a dinner party I went into panic mode wondering what to cook that would suit him and my carnivore friends. Mr google came to the rescue and was able to cook two dishes for both groups. had to chuckle when most of my meat eaters went for the vegan vegetable tart I made. had to tell them to stay out of it as Jarmo needed to eat it!!

message 24150: by B the BookAddict (last edited Nov 30, 2015 02:56PM) (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Lol, Sally. If I'm a someone's place for dinner, I'll opt just for whatever vegies they have cooked or salad. I'd never say to someone "I'm can;t eat that" and wouldn't expect a friend to make something extra for me. But it would be nice if they did:) I've been vegan/vegetarian for so long now that all my friends know.

My DH used to make me the best vege meals! I don't bother, I'm just a steam veg or salad person these days.
