What with the wonderful technological advances in laser light shows which we have been lucky enough to witness first hand at Sydney festivals, shouldn't we seriously think about blanket banning the use of fireworks for any events now?I have just watched (on tv) my worst fears regarding their reckless use when a Paris street was turned into chaos with people rushing and trampling one another to escape after someone let off some fireworks nearby.
They weren't to know it wasn't a real threat...and how could they?
I also saw it Jools. Terrifying for the poor, already shell-shocked people. Totally agree with you.
Brenda wrote: "I also saw it Jools. Terrifying for the poor, already shell-shocked people. Totally agree with you."I'm sure all the birds and wildlife would be happier too!
And Sally!Has been just over 4 months since Territory Day and hoons still letting them off. They set off one or two and then zoom off on their skate boards to the next suburb.
This is about 2 or 3 in the morning. Gives you one heck of a fright!

Yes they are really so insensitive! We used to have the same, and it seemed like every time someone had a party, for any occasion, they would get fireworks...and I mean industrial strength ones! They were like explosives. The police started getting after them and now it is just the occasional ones, though people still get them illegally for parties.
The animals go crazy and old people as well as young are scared out of their wits!
Imagine hearing that after something like Paris had last weekend, you would be terrified, as they were.

Wanted to let you know that I'm very impressed with the way Parisians, their gov't, and their press/TV is responding to the horrific terrorist attack here in Paris. My wife and I are living in St. Germain and on Friday night after a movie at Les Halles, we when to a jazz club about ten blocks from the Baraclan Concert Hall. We left at 11:15 to return to St. Germain without any awareness of the attacks until we looked at our iPhones at home, which were full of messages. But what I want to say is that the tone and essence of the response is generous, no talk of retribution (except toward ISIS in Syria), concern that this not unduly negatively effect the refugee influx problem, outrage but no hate, etc. just impressively magnanimous.

As one friend said there are people in Paris who go to bed before midnight :)
Paris will go on - just like London and New York did

I'm looking for Julie, when she's online. Why when I'm typing does sometimes my sentences break out of their position and end up in the wrong place?
like this: 'Why when I'm typing does sometimes my position and end up in the wrong place? sentences break out of their'
I thought of you because you are a tecchi whiz:)
I get that, Bette, and I think it's because my thumb accidentally hits the touchpad on my laptop. But I'm guessing and if you're not using a laptop, that scotches that theory. Very annoying, though!
Sorry Bette, don't know what's going on there..when I read those sort of messages I just assume the author has had a couple of wines too many! ..and I enjoy the challenge of trying to decipher them ;)lol, just kidding! It happens a lot when people are using their phones to message on. I really don't know what is going on there but I would check to see if your "autocorrect" is on...maybe that could do it?
☼♄Jülie wrote: "Sorry Bette, don't know what's going on there..when I read those sort of messages I just assume the author has had a couple of wines too many! ..and I enjoy the challenge of trying to decipher them..."Bette, there is also a "predictive text" button that can be turned on or off, it could be this causing your problem...if you check in your settings for >Keyboard and then find >Predictive, then click or unclick this.
That might help.

It happens to me on my laptop, no predictive there. It's like you're typing a sentence and suddenly the curser jumps to a different (obviously earlier) spot in the sentence, so the bit you are typing now ends up in the middle of the bit you typed earlier, and until you look at the screen, you don't realise you've done it.
that's where my theory of "thumb on touchpad" comes from, I try to keep my thumbs tucked in so I don't accidentally do it, but then I forget...
Marianne wrote: "☼♄Jülie wrote: "☼♄Jülie wrote: "Sorry Bette, don't know what's going on there..when I read those sort of messages I just assume the author has had a couple of wines too many! ..and I enjoy the chal..."Oh ok, but you can recalibrate your mouse to stop it doing that jumping around Marianne...again in Settings. You can slow or speed up its movement around the screen. I believe you can also do that for your touchpad, though I haven't tried that because I never use the touchpad on my laptop.
Marianne wrote: "that's where my theory of "thumb on touchpad" comes from, I try to keep my thumbs tucked in so I don't accidentally do it, but then I forget..."That's why I hate the touchpad! Would one of those ipad pens with the soft tip work on the touchpad instead of fingers? I opt for a cordless mouse, it's much more effective and efficient imho ;)
D. wrote: "Wanted to let you know that I'm very impressed with the way Parisians, their gov't, and their press/TV is responding to the horrific terrorist attack here in Paris. My wife and I are living in St. ..."Great message D. Thanks for telling us.
@Marianne Relieved to hear that it happens to someone else and is not a 'Bette' special problem, lol.@No wine in this house, Julie, not a drop of grog actually. Boring, hey? OK, success I think. I have gone into Mouse Properties and altered the pointer speed. ooh, it didn't happen once in that sentence:)

Yay, I hope it is all ok now Bette :)
Here's a quiz to amuse readers:Can we guess your age from the books you like?

Not sure it's very accurate as it guessed mine at mid 40s, so around 15y too young!

I hate the touchpad too, I have a mouse connected. I hate the touchpad so much that when we got laptops for our wards last week I brought a spare mouse from home so I could avoid the touchpad, LOL

Didn't work with my husband either. Also didn't allow for people who couldn't pick one book out of each group. That was me, of course. A lot of books I hadn't read and didn't want to. Oh well, nothing wrong with bring different.Lol

It had me in my 40s as well - I wish!!
it assumes that only young adults read YA books - as most of my picks were YA with a couple of Chick lits and a classic thrown in.

We'll it almost got my age right, but I hadn't read any of the books on that first page, so had to bodge it LOL

It pegged me in my 30's..All the books I picked except for maybe 1 I'd actually read..However, it is correct with my age..lol
It's still 29 degrees in Sydney and not long until bedtime. I think it will be an uncomfortable night.

I'm not sure about that Brenda. Hubby and I both did it and it guessed right for both of us. I'm in my 40's and he's in his 50's.Although hubby only turned 50 at the start of the year so not sure he was impressed. I'm sure he would have wanted to be told he's in his 20's lol!! You're reading obviously keeps you young Brenda.
