I like to change my style from time to time so i thought I'd try again...This time different person and she offered different lengths. *phew*

That sounds interesting Phrynne, I have added it to my tbr. I devoured Eugenia...fascinating, and also very sad. I imagine he (Mark Tedeschi) would have been a very compelling speaker, would like to have seen him. I remember the story about the Graeme Thorn kidnapping, back then those sort of things rarely happened here and so when something did happen it really did get people scared.

He did speak well. Apparently Graeme Thorn was our one and only child kidnapping in Australia and it scared people very badly.

message 23462: by Mikana (new)

Mikana (mikanakat) | 72 comments I've been making the most of the fact my local library no longer charges for inter-library loans, and have been hitting their shelves hard. Good news is I've read over 20 books this year from my to read list, sadly my to-read list has grown rather than shrank.

I've also been lucky to win 2 books from the giveaway section (finding 1 of them was the cause of me walking back in and leaving with the key's next to the book) so I have some actual reading to do, I've been getting into audiobooks whilst doing the adult colouring of late.

I saw that too Marianne. It did sound like a interesting case - the fact that the boy was targeted would definitely have scared parents.

message 23464: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 15859 comments Mod
He was targeted because his father had just won the lottery big time and in those days they printed the name and ADDRESS of the winner in the newspapers.

Veronica ⭐️ | 2386 comments I haven't been around the chat thread lately and everyone has been very busy. I do have a quick read each night but very busy atm trying to catch up on reading and trying to teach my daughter to drive after I've worked all day.
I worked out if we do three hours per week every week she can get her licence in six months. Now to find an extra three hours to drive aimlessly around the streets. I must say she is enjoying it though :)

This is a parenting aspect I'm not overly excited by, Veronica. If they play lots of sport I'm thinking this is a good way to build up the hours!

message 23470: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4436 comments I had to tell this little story from today, took son to the doctor for a sore eye, has quite a bad sty.. So I go into the room and the Doc is probably more interested in catching up with me as I hadn't seen her for a while, and then I spot a pile of books on her trolley, she sees me notice and tries to give them to me. I pulled out my phone and showed her the pics of Indy sitting on my pile of books. I don't need more! She doesn't know how I have time to read, but I don't watch tv so it's doable, isn't it?! Then she thought I was tough trying to send 11 year old back to school with an eye patch.. I thought he should go back to school! Moral of the story, I said no to books (and I don't easily say yes to a day off) lol :D

Haha!!! You shouldn't have said NO Suzanne;) You haven't got enough books in your collection - have you??!!

PS - hope your son's eye is OK soon...they're very sore:)

message 23472: by Stef (new)

Stef Rozitis You hit the nail on the head Suzanne. People also wonder how I have time to read...simultaneously they wonder why I have no idea what was on TV recently. You have time for one or the other and we chose the more fun one ;)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Finally got my copy of The Lake House by Kate Morton, after waiting since Friday, 23rd. I had to go in and ask for it. It was on the shelves and they hadn't rung me. No, I did not spit the dummy, was polite like I was taught to be but will be using Booktopia from now on. The bookshop just lost themselves about $150 per month!

message 23474: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80165 comments Mod
You should have (politely) let them know that Bette. If you go to Booko.com.au then on to Booktopia for your book, you will get free delivery too :)

message 23475: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I did mention, politely, that all my friends bought it via Booktopia and already had their copy. The bookshop girls will probably sneakily spit in my book if ever I buy one from them again, lol:)

That's terrible service Bette. Did they even apologise?

message 23477: by B the BookAddict (last edited Oct 29, 2015 01:23PM) (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Veronica Absolutely no apology, just a bland look. Wanted to say 'kiddo, I have SO much money to I could spend here but I wont be now!"

@Rita I have used Booktopia before but I'm a instant gratification person, so like to have the book now. Well, this recent little episode has cured me of that, lol!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) RitaSkeeter wrote: "Yeah can relate to that. Best thing about having a kindle is no wait for my books!"

If I had a kindle, I would have spent all my 'old age' money by now. That's partly the reason I won't get one. Just too easy to spend and I have no willpower with books:)

I am back again. It has been a rough week; however, the medication seems to be kicking in and I am regaining my non anxious self (knock on wood).

The book community (and this group) have been a fabulous surce of comfort and supposrt during this difficult time. Many Thanks :) xx

Mikana (mikanakat) | 72 comments Well I'm bruised and fell battered but I'm alive and okay. Everyone loves the image of me hanging from the bathroom window by my knee. I understand the relief booktopia can be - I've just recently placed my first order, and the books I got where delivered quickly. They were half the price of what I've seen of shelves :) But most of my purchases are with amazon for my ereader, although I now have a Kindle Fire, i can use the apps to "borrow" a ebook or audiobook from the library :)

Oh Laura, lol. I'm losing words, left right and centre and yesterday I lost the word for that thingy, you know, a 'water heater'. Had to ring my sister at teatime to find out the word was 'hot water service'.
