LOL! I'm sure everyone does it, but no one thinks about why! It's a great pic though:)

Why can't you read a novella or short story Michael...a random TBR? ;)

That would be alright - it wouldn't matter if it went into the next day by a little bit would it?

Neko oh my lots of posts since i was last on and my phone is gunna die if i don't get to the charger :(

Got a bit of a strange question n just wondering if anyone knows the answer (google gave me no real answer)...If you get divorced you're no longer known as Mrs but do you revert back to Miss or do you take on Ms?

message 22807: by Neko (new)

Neko Or is it your choice? Just noticed something today and it got me thinking about it. When i say google gave no answers it basically gave me everything lol

Your choice Laura...you can be called whatever you like. And you can change your name by deed poll to whatever you'd like as well:)

message 22809: by Neko (new)

Neko Thank you! :) People said you couldn't remain as a Mrs so it got me curious.

message 22810: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Brenda I felt disgust too. Michael's post brought on such futile anger within me. I wanted to kick something.

I try hard these days to work on the other end of the spectrum, by walking rescue dogs and showing them love. Anyone can do the same if there's a rescue centre in their city.

Sally906 | 89 comments Well I read nothing at all yesterday!!! Woke up with a headache (again) sore shoulder and I still talking in a croaky voice - so took myself off to the docs! Got sent to a physio for the shoulder as she thought that maybe headache related and jollop for throat.

Apparently my shoulder is misaligned (left one higher than right one) which is not good - and that caused the muscles to tense and produces headaches!! He manipulated them and I can assure you he hit every knotted muscle - got one he'd say as I peeled myself off the ceiling!! LOL! I have a few exercises to do and go back again in a couple of days - but the headache was almost gone by the time I got home and my shoulder had dropped considerably. So I had a fruitful day healthwise but not readingwise :)

Question for you Australians :) I was having a conversation with a British blogger today and the topic of Installment and Instalment came up. Apparently outside of the USA 'Installment isn't commonly used (except for Canada, because it is inevitable that some of our language became Americanized). Is it Installment or Instalment in Australia?

I would use one L but then I was born in England so it seems right to me spelled that way. I think in Australia we are still using the English spelling on that one though.

Interesting! she is very good at the American accent in that case. This is like the time I found out that one of the Characters from 'The Orange is the New Black' was Australian (not the obviously Australian one but one of the others).

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9987 comments For those readers who enjoyed Year of Wonders, yesterday we visited Eyam, the Plague village in the Peaks district (Derbyshire), which was Geraldine Brooks's inspiration for this book.
This is me putting a coin in the Boundary Stone where it can be disinfected with vinegar. I actually left a higher denomination coin with all the others in the holes, but I used a shiny 2p coin for the photo. photo IMG_0956_zpsanc8lusw.jpg
Notice how far the stone is away from the village, in the background.

message 22834: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I think I have to look at Boundary Stone/Eyam in Wiki, my knowledge of that is sorely lacking. Great piccy, though:)

message 22835: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 89 comments Its a plague stone - when the plague hit England the village isolated itself so the disease would stay in the village only and not spread - money soaked in vinegar (as Marianne said to disinfect them) were put in the holes on this rock in exchange for food and medicine.

Went there on a school excursion back in the late 1960s when I was at boarding School - stuck in my memory because I think they were isolated for well over a year and about 80% of the villagers died

Vivian Waring (vivianwaring) | 77 comments Hi Mandy,
wanted to share what a wonderful high September finished on. Finally on Goodreads. Celebrated the big 70, although have been told that these days you just deduct 20 years so I guess I'm back to the ripe young age of 50. But the most exiting news is that fabulous grand-daughter number 4 has just made me a GREAT-GRANDMAMMA.

Mikana (mikanakat) | 72 comments I had that problem a few months ago, only my washing machine had died the month before, I had just saved up the doh for a new one when the fridge blew, and became a necessity. Unfortunately I had to get the cheapest one I could, which doesn't even have enough space for a opened can to stand upright without taking out a shelf :( At least it works though...

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Where the heck is everyone this morning? Travelling to Melbourne for the GF? Brilliantly sunny day here.

I worked in the garden all yesterday afternoon with the guy who does my lawns. Today, I have a whole load of new hives, including one on my eyebrow which is making my eyelid swell, and some on the back of my ears. I'm slathered in calamine lotion but still a bit itchy.

RIP to the 10 victims of the shooting in Oregon USA; a right shame that events like this keep repeating themselves.

Michael wrote: "I know Melissa. It is quite amazing that these events keep happening and yet the country seems incapable of putting in measures to make these events rare. I seen Obama's speech earlier on the news ..."

Canada and the USA generally get along well. However, this is an area were, as a Canadian, we will never understand. This is where Canada tends to follow the Australians. This is not to say that we are perfect with our gun laws (or our politics). But we haven't had nearly the number of shootings the USA has.

I can only imagine that it is frustrating and devastating for Obama to have to make this same speech over and over again.

Politics aside, there is a lot of families grieving tonight; I wish them peace and comfort in the period to come.
