Freezing here too (and pouring rain). Got fire burning washing hanging everywhere, doing lots of cooking, roast beef in slow cooker, made chocolate balls, making vegetable fritters now and I am going to have a go at making beetroot marmalade (which is really a chutney type thing) I am hooked on it and it is too expensive to buy so found a recipe and it looks fairly easy. Then I am going to make chicken curry for tomorrow night as I am back at work tomorrow, school holidays are over! :(
Sun still shining on Sydney, at least on the northern side. Don't they say the sun shines on the righteous? We must be very good people living here:)

We've had sunshine all day up until about 1/2 hour ago; now it's very overcast, windy and cold!!! So you must be Phrynne;)

Liam wrote: "We got snow up on Mt. Lofty apparently, which is a rarity in SA."Yes, my parents sent me a text to tell me. I couldn't believe it! My Mum is about to head back here to the UK next Friday to help us in the final 11 weeks in the lead up to our leaving and she was saying she can't wait to get back here to get some warm weather. I don't think she ever imagined she would say that about England :-)
Decided I couldn't spend the whole day reading so unearthed some baby wool from my closet and have half finished a jumper for the new baby next door. Must be over 10 years since I last did any knitting!
It's not cold here in Brisbane, although apparently there is snow on the QLD/NSW border. However after spending the last week skiing in Wanaka in almost entirely negative degrees C (except when I was inside!), most places in Australia would probably feel warm!! Some of the days were gorgeous, but cold, and others were miserable and cold!! There was a wind chill factor on at least one day that took the temperature to the equivalent of -18 deg C.I had a great time skiing (no broken bones, just one large bruise) and have made great improvement in my skiing, but have brought home a cold as a souvenir :-/
Carolyn wrote: "Decided I couldn't spend the whole day reading so unearthed some baby wool from my closet and have half finished a jumper for the new baby next door. My children won't wear knitted jumpers anymore so I just knit squares for knit a square.
http://www.knit-a-square.com
My kids also started refusing to wear hand knitted jumpers from around 8 or 9, so I've knitted a lot of those squares for charity in the past and even some beanies but got out of the habit - probably about the time I took up quilting. Knitting is a good thing to do while watching TV or movies so I should look out all my old scraps of wool.

Nice you're home with no broken bones Kathryn; bad luck about the cold:( But so good you had lots of fun!!! Those temperatures are terrible!!! Good for snow but that's about it!

I use my 100% wool scraps for this as these are highly needed due to being fire retardant.
Brenda wrote: "Kathryn wrote: "It's not cold here in Brisbane, although apparently there is snow on the QLD/NSW border. Now I'm keen to go back - but probably not next year... Maybe the year after.
I kept an eye on GR while I was away, but was too exhausted/busy of an evening to post!! I just scanned the new posts.

LOL! I can do without a "proper winter" Kathryn:) A not too chilly winter is fine by me;) But I'm really pleased you had a great time and are keen to go back!

I'm crocheting a blanket at the moment that I don't already have plans for, so unless someone I know has a baby as I'm finishing it up, I will probably end up giving it to my church or the Knitting for the Needy group to give to someone. I crochet in summer as well, but it's nice to have a larger project that covers your knees when it's winter!! What I should do is crochet little individual squares in summer and then join them all together come winter!!
Carolyn wrote: "Knitting is a good thing to do while watching TV or movies so I should look out all my old scraps of wool..."You can also listen to audiobooks while you're knitting, Carolyn!!
I think I might be becoming an old lady - if I know I'm going to be sitting around chatting to friends, I'll sometimes take my crocheting along with me!

That thought occurred to me this afternoon! I can't knit and read but could organise myself to listen to audiobooks.

Mine is similar to the 2nd in the first row..black one.
It is so warm and has a lovely big button on it, and not too cumbersome! :D

It looks lovely, Julie! How nice of your friend!
Put mum's washing out last night, of course now it's pouring with rain. I'll have to get it in (ugh) run it through a spin and hang it in the garage, although the bedspread might end up in the dryer....
Everyone I know refuses to wear anything I knit. I once knitted James an Aran jumper on circular needles. It turned out so big that James, his friend and friend's wife could all fit into it together!

That's lovely Julie. Very smart! What a nice friend you have.

I only once knitted my DH a jumper. It had a fancy stitch which was a real pain to knit but it turned out about two sizes too small and never got worn. Now I stick to babies jumpers - they will always fit at some stage!
100 posts since I've last been here? Sickness all round in my household, combined with me hosting my mums 70th (I held off with the virus - the horrible one I'm not going to say what it was! - only just, till after the party) but I spent the whole time feeling off.. And having family stay here as well. It's still going, thus having not read for days.. I need to get 100% as I'm meant to be hosting another party for her in her hometown. Which is 3.5 hrs away. It's all to hard right now!!!

That isn't too bad. You killed three birds with one stone lol. It is only problematic if all three want to go to different places :p

I wondered where you had got to and put it down to school holidays! So sorry to hear about you all being so sick :( am sending lots of healing thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery for you all! Take care and don't try to plan another party yet, you can always have it later, I'm sure they would understand. **Hugs**
Thanks Jools for your kind thoughts, it's at a booked venue so it can go ahead if I'm not there, which is good! I'll just miss out on all the yummy goodies again ;( I wish it was only school hol business as well! I'm missing my book, but it's not going anywhere thankfully :)

Oh Suzanne, I hope you feel better soon. Being unwell stinks, but it is even worse in the school holidays :(I haven't been around much of late as not only school holidays, but our house went on the market last month, so kept busy cleaning and tidying (we sold it!), and will busy packing and renovating where we are moving to (18 acres - can't wait for the serenity!)
So sorry for snubbing you all, however I will probably also be snubbing for the next couple of months as well. Will try to duck on when I can :)
