Thanks, Bette! I'll take a look now!
Did you know that it is actually legal for first cousins to marry? I always thought it wasn't. Then last night I was doing some family history research and I discovered some ancestors of mine in the 1930's who were first cousins and married. That led to more reading, and yeah, it's legal. Learn something new everyday.

But although I love my cousins dearly I can't think of any of them I'd want to marry!

They didn't meet until they were in their 20s. I on the other hand always knew my boy cousins and the thought of marrying one of them is quite horrifying :)
LOL :)They were married in the Church so all very above board. Royal families across Europe have been doing it for centuries :)
Sally906 wrote: "Regina wrote: "Did you know that it is actually legal for first cousins to marry? I always thought it wasn't. Plus also where people don't realise they are related until after they are in a relationship.
The royals etc that have done it for centuries.
I think though what I wouldn't be able to get my head around is cousins who grew up together, as growing up my cousins were like extended siblings. I guess that is why I just assumed it was illegal. But I guess there could be cousins that grew up together that still fall in love and get married. We all have different realities.
It's probably good that most of us don't fancy marrying our cousins because it does increase the chance of any children inheriting genetic diseases. If both cousins carry one defective copy of a gene that doesn't cause a problem on it's own but can lead to serious diseases in children who then inherit two copies. That's why some of the European Royal families had some weird diseases!
When my cousin and his family first came to Australia from Holland, and I met him for the first time, he was exactly a year older than me (well, obviously still is), tall, blonde, attractive.... we announced to the family we were going to get married when we grew up and were quite dismayed to be told that cousins weren't allowed to marry. Perhaps our parents just wanted to get that idea out of our heads....
Happy May long weekend (if it is a long weekend for you also in Australia) - If it isn't, happy weekend nevertheless :)

Marianne wrote: "happy to report my treadmill was fixed today. I can get back to TReading."Did you end up having to replace the belt Marianne or was it something else? Just interested because my cheapie is 5y old now although I only use it for 2h per week so it's not getting much wear and tear!
Marianne wrote: "happy to report my treadmill was fixed today. I can get back to TReading."Ha! "TReading". Love it!

@ Marina that clever wording compliments of Vicki Tyley.

Marianne wrote: "And Carolyn, mine gets a LOT of use! x7 what you do, probably"I prefer to go out for a walk on the weekend so the treadmill only gets used under sufferance during the week. I can't read when I'm on it so get bored after 20-30 min but I have asked for wireless headphones for my B'day so should be able to listen to audio books in future!
So much has gone on here today. Funny GR recs, Marianne and Bette's book holder, tReading. Love it!! I had a weird day, was meant to visit a girlfriend on the Central coast today but Indy (3) was vomiting after rolling around in my bed from 3.30-5am, so after 3 hrs sleep he rested all day and I read on and off. Eerily quiet! It was going to be a fun day out and overnight stay while the rest of the family were motorbike riding in the Blue Mountains. We will do it another time..

That's bad luck Suzanne:( I hope Indy is alright now though? Do you know what the problem was? At least you got some good reading time in!

No one else was unwell.. Not too sure. It wasn't continuous all day so hopefully a quick bug? He hasn't been sick much at all and I'd just been talking about that very fact. Thanks Brenda and Rita. Just listening to him now making noises in his sleep. They're precious! Liked my reading time though and made a good dent.
Hopefully it was just a little bug and nothing too serious Suzanne... little ones often get sick for no apparent reason it seems..

They are still building up their immunity so they get sick more easily than grown ups.

Yes I think you're right Phrynne...I know our granddaughters always seem to have the sniffles or something similar...
I hope Indy wakes up feeling better today Suzanne. Hopefully just one of those little bugs they all pick up at that age.
