I just picked up 3 books and 1 audio book from my library last night, some had been reserved for ages, and they all came at once :(
Sing You Home, by Jodi Picoult which I have to read first as I only have 2 weeks!
Live Wire by Harlan Coben and Cold Wind by C.J. Box plus audio book Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta. The last one was recommended by Carmel :)

Really? It's supposed to be really cold o/night in your neck of the woods, and getting colder! You would have a pretty clear night with the temp so low?

Wich books did you get?"
David Copperfield and A Tale of Two Cities both by Charles Dickens. I've never been a classic tale reader, tho some of them I read in school, but my hubby, who ISN'T a reader, loved these two...so I thought I'd give them a go. My son will have them if I don't like them...he loves that sort of book. All prompted by the April reading challenge...lol

For those of you who are interested in the ANZAC and WW1 heroes, there are a few new books just out..Anzac Day is just around the corner.....
The second book in the Aussie Soldier Series, Aussie Soldier - Prisoners of War is out now. Also Gallipoli. Peter Hart, Anzac Fury: The Bloody Battle Of Crete 1941, and Crack Hardy
Plus:
'Real Life Portrait' by Roderic Anderson, which is the fascinating life story of Wallace Anderson, who captured the ANZAC spirit through his timeless works of art, like the 'Simpson and his Donkey' statue.
'Both Sides of the Wire' by William Cull is his unforgettable story of his experiences during WW1. He fought at Gallipoli and on the Western Front, where he was captured by the Germans.
'More than Bombs and Bandages' by Kirsty Harris is an intriguing and sometimes gut-wrenching look at the Australian Army Nursing Service (A.A.N.S.) during WW1.

thanks; it's a crusty situation

I've had a look but they've said they're all fully staffed and don't need anyone else. Even Dymocks in the city said they don't need anyone :-(

I'll keep trying; and keeping my fingers crossed my book sells lol. Seriously though, don't want to be without a job for too long so will have to keep at it

Im entering the SA young writers award these next few months. Have to write a 1000 word (max.) story or poem to submit, and the winner is published in The Advertiser. Just started my story then. Im not planning or anything, but ive got a general idea. Im writing it really unusually, so hopefully it stands out from the crowed.
Last story I wrote for anyone but my self was for the NAPLAN tests over a year ago, at the very tart of year nine.
I got full marks (top percent of the state!) but got sent to the school psychologist, because it was so dark and morbid :/

Simply tell the psychologist that you are dark and morbid because you want to be a writer :P If they understand the life of a wannabe writer they should understand.
I have a fear of showing some of my stories to people, because I think they will think I'm messed up (it's no secret)
Jessica the same thing happened to me but i didnt have to go my english teacher just asked me if there was anything i wanted to talk to her about after writing a poem about losings your mind..
she entered it in some comp and i won 50 bucks
im pretty sure till this day she thinks im just a little bit insane
which im sure i am :D
and there is nothing wrong with that hahaha
good luck with the comp hope you win :D

I finished the first draft of my story. Its exactly 1000 words (by coincidence, I didnt even plan it). Let me say this: if my other story sent my to the school psychologist, this one will get be locked up in an asylum for life! Its so dark and morbid and creepy. I scared myself writing it. Its basically a monologue, its written like a person involved in conversation-if that makes sense.
The person speaking is the owner of a hotel somewhere between Las Vegas and Pheonix, and hes talking with a guest. The hotel is pretty twisted, and hes explaining about rules and rooms and staff members/guests with dark pasts.
@Carmel, my other story had to be written within a certain time period, on the subject of: 'A mess'.
My teacher at previously told us that the markers' look for descriptive language and how you write, so dont make a too complicated plot'.
I wrote about a teenage girl locked in her bathroom, slitting her wrists and taking pills. In the end she is killed, and her father finds her in a pool of her own blood, pills and blades lying over the floor. (hence the topic, a mess). The psychologist asked if there were any issues at home, or with friends, if the story was based on experience etc etc...But I got top marks, so its all good :)
