Hope you have a safe and stress-free trip home too!
We've been having torrential rain from Cyclone Lam all day - didn't come near Darwin, were on the edge of the system . Worried for my friend on Elcho Island they got hit last night - she sent me an email to say everyone was safe and in the shelter but trees were crashing all around them. All Internet contact was lost around 4 am. I understand from Polkce Reports that the airfield has lots of debris on it so no flights can go in until cleared. There is significant damage to buildings but no injuries or medical issues - so taking from that my friend is ok and will contact me when she can.
My husband and I went and saw Jupiter Ascending and we could even hear the rain inside the cinema while the film was playing. :o

It's such a concern Sally - so glad you're alright, and hope your friend remains so as well. Take care - hopefully the damage isn't too bad!

Hope everyone up that way and around here and the Central Queensland coast heeds warnings and advice from the emergency services personnel and stay safe. Thoughts and prayers also with the SES crews going around and making things safe for everyone...
I don't know if anyone else saw on the Today show this morning - a man in a four wheel drive pulled up at the beach in Yeppoon and proceeded to take his surf board from the back of the vehicle!! The police moved him along! What sort of brains (if any) did that guy have? The emergency services have their hands full without having to attend to idiots as well! Unbelievable...

I get the flu shot too. My doc says may not prevent it but not as bad as if you don't have shot. yes, that's one of the pluses of working in a hospital: they make sure all your vaccinations are up to date and it's all FREE!!!
I've been "watching" this website most of the afternoon, refreshing, and some of the photos coming in are horrific!

Poor Bette. Know what you mean about the medical profession and some of the things they can't cure. Being sick with cold or flu in summer when it is hot is even more annoying. Hope you feel better soon.

What Lesley in your other post said: rest, plenty of fluids, spoil yourself. My mother soaks an onion in a hot syrup solution (ugh) and sips that, she reckons it works. I'd prefer honey & lemon myself.
Lozenges for the throat, cold tablets for the nose, aches & pains, yes, Moses might have to be sent out to the chemist with a note and $$ attached to his collar.
Here's another Onion cure...cut an onion in half and place on a saucer in your sick room, it is supposed to absorb all the germs. Google it, there is much written about this phenomenon. Hope you are are feeling better soon Bette...one thing I always notice after a heavy dose of cold/flu, is that I always feel healthier, as if I've purged myself of all germs ;)
Dale, Sandra Brown liked your review!!!!!!! Oops I got that wrong Dale and it wouldn't allow me to delete the comment. Wow I'm good at this..
Oh dear Bette, that's no good, getting the flu in summer. Personally, I wouldn't try the onion cure. Who wants to be sick and miserable and smell onions?Best cure is to take to bed with plenty of hot drinks, panadol and decongestant and a good book to read or listen to :)
Get well soon!
Hope all of our Queenslanders are OK. I've just been watching footage of all the flooding and destruction.
Leonie wrote: "Hope all of our Queenslanders are OK. I've just been watching footage of all the flooding and destruction."I second that. Thoughts and prayers with all in Queensland. Yeppoon certainly seems to get its share of wild weather.

I'm not quite sure how our night will be tonight..neighbours directly opposite are having a BIG party! At least 60 guests..for an engagement..therefore young! Only 7.30 and the group out the front are well on the way O_o!! We're in a quiet cul de sac..cars everywhere! They'll have fun, but we won't have hangovers;)
Brenda wrote: "Dale wrote: "Leonie wrote: "Hope all of our Queenslanders are OK. I've just been watching footage of all the flooding and destruction."I second that. Thoughts and prayers with all in Queensland. ..."
Yes, we should never forget the Territory!

Brenda wrote: "Thanks Sharon! The noise is loud already..it can only get worse :("I'm afraid so. You need a set of earplugs ;)
We live near the showground in Gosford. So every time the Mariners play you can hear all the chanting and cheering before, during and after the games. They are louder when the Mariners are losing than when they are winning. Which is kind of strange. But by the sounds of it, another game tonight even with the rain.

I suppose at least they leave at a reasonable hour though :) But that would definitely be a noisy place to live!

Games don't finish until after 10 at least. Then they go to the leagues club until it closes. And I have no idea, because I am trying to get to sleep.

Or turn the air conditioning on :)
Neigbours on one side of us are from India - lovely young couple, we get on very well with them. They have a big party in July each year as they both have birthdays - we always get invited if we're home - we are early birds though so usually leave around 9 and the party kicks on. Loud Bollywood music, kids screaming, people chattering and laughing - so noisy! We always shut our bedroom windows and turn on the air conditioning to muffle the noise otherwise it would keep us awake.
Brenda wrote: "Absolutely HUGE fight over the road ATM!!"Sounds like a great engagement party. The wedding should be fun!!

Brenda this also sounds like my street before Christmas, long story, but we met the district police inspector and there were detectives and helicopters.. Very long story. But quiet after midnight.. Then we had to leave early for a flight to Qld. I hope you get some sleep.
