Update on the car situation:Yesterday we went for a test drive in a Honda Jazz VTi-L. And bought one. Alabaster Silver metallic. Would have preferred blue but they said 3-4 months wait (probably because they had a silver one in stock). Anyway, better than grey or black. The yellow was yukky.
Then to the Citroen place where they said they would remove the new battery and just charge for the truck and the labour. So we emptied the car, but couldn't take the plates as we had neglected to bring a screw-driver and all the mechs were gone, tool boxes locked.
Today, collected the plates, off to the RTA to cancel the rego, got a bit of cash from the wrecker for the car. Collect the Honda on Sunday.
Catching the train in the meantime, not a great hardship (unless it is raining) as we live 1km from the station, and work is <1km from the station.
Have ordered my Opal card and will keep taking the train to work occasionally, as it means no parking hassles or fees.
But no car today so no charity shop trawls so no books!!!
Congratulations on your new car Marianne. Hope you won't miss your little yellow one too much.I hope you've got one of two books to tide you over until you can go book shopping again ;D

Well done!! Brilliant birthday present - a new car! Honda Jazz's are great little cars:) You'll be zipping around everywhere in no time! lol
I'm sure there'll still be plenty of books at the charity shops next Tuesday;)
Bad luck you didn't get more compassion from the car people, but at least you know not to go back there. And you got a little cash for your faithful old girl:)

One or two (thousand) yeah.... LOL
@Brenda, I wasn't overly unhappy with the Citroen (or I would have been naming them) as they didn't make me pay for an unneeded battery. And I bought me the car, so I guess it's my 60th present to me. But with all this going on, I haven't been able to go out and get a tablet, which is what I REALLY wanted for my birthday. Soon....

Oh well, you'll have all the fun of choosing it for yourself Marianne!
My hubby just got himself one of the new tablets (ASUS I think) with a detachable keyboard that runs Word and is more like a mini PC. Great for travelling.
Congratulations on the new car, Marianne!I hope you find the tablet you want. I'm guessing it won't be an iPad. :)
Congrats on the new car Marianne. My husband did your trick today. Went into a Salvos at Warrawong and came out with 9 books for $9. All Agatha Christies. I came out with none.
Dale wrote: "Congrats on the new car Marianne. My husband did your trick today. Went into a Salvos at Warrawong and came out with 9 books for $9. All Agatha Christies. Except the person who does the sorting doesn't know that Lionel Shriver is a woman (and a few more I can't think of at present)
But still, good bargains!

He's a woman? I mean she's not a man? Oh dear - I'd have put Lionel Shriver in the men's area too - my poppy was a Lionel so never though a woman would have that name :)
In my defence have never read a book by her - so would have picked up from author blurb if I had of.
Really I would have - LOL!

At age 15, Shriver informally changed her name from Margaret Ann to Lionel because she did not like the name she had been given, and as a tomboy felt that a conventionally male name fitted her better

I went and looked at her profile last night after I posted to learn more.
Almost like George in the Famous Five - she related to George better than the despised Georgina.

How bizarre that they separate the books into female and male authors...
I must admit the first time I picked up a book by Lionel Shriver I thought it was a man.

Funny the lady on the counter said if she had seen them when they came in they would not have been on the shelf at that price. So DH was pretty pleased with himself. Would help if they are going to segregate if people actually knew which an author belonged to and not just assume by the name.
At work today, as well as a lovely morning tea with previously mentioned Mango and Coconut cake from Zweefers, among lots of lovely foods, there was a magnificent 60 card signed by everyone at work and $100 Dymocks vouchers. :D :D :D They know me well.....

Just found out today while skimming through a writing magazine that the poet Martin Harrison died last September. Makes me wonder if we don't value our poets as much as novelists, that I hadn't heard this before. Unless I had been living under a rock.Thankfully I have a couple of books of his poetry.I will probably get them out soon and start re-reading. He wrote lovely poetry.
Hi everyone, I've been a little quiet on here of late as hubby and I both on holidays. We haven't actually gone away, but we will do a few day trips. It's just nice not having to to work.Yesterday I met a friend from Aussie Readers which was Vicki Tyley. She and Alan invited both hubby and I and our dog Gypsy to lunch at their house. We had a wonderful day. We were spoilt with delicious food (home grown) and I wasn't allowed to do anything except relax which I did. (Well I tried) A truly great day spent with great company and too much food. A perfect day :)
Thanks again to Vicki and Alan for a wonderful day. Gypsy also had a great day as both Vicki and Alan spoilt her with lots of pats, food and play time which tired her out and she slept all the way home :)
Brenda wrote: "That's fantastic Sharon! So glad you had a great time with Vicki and Alan:)"I didn't want to leave lol

Oh wow! That's awesome....you should have waved your arms in the air and said "pick me, pick me"!! LOL

You'll have to go see it and see if anyone you know (such as you) did make it to the background.
What fun :)

Ooh no Laura! You have worked there for ages:( That's not fair....are you having much success finding another one? Bad luck about the 4am wake ups too - though it seems quite common amongst our members;)

Not really....i know other ppl who are in the exact same situation too. Super hard to find anything because of the changes they've made to education for here....I'll say it will probably be a very stressful year for most schools.Haha..yeah the early birds! I may drop in at that early hour too.

It's fabulous Carolyn! I loved watching his Dad and how much he'd changed from the interviews while his son was in prison....so good to see. I just hope the other two are released as well..
