Oh dear. Profound apologies to Rebecca Shaw!! The way they put her name underneath made it look like her article.
Hi all! Are you or were you a single parent (mother or father)? I am writing a series of books for single parents and I want stories, anecdotes and tips. All contributions gratefully received and acknowledged (no payment). You can contribute anonymously if you wish. If you would like to know more, please email me at writetoemhere@gmail.com - share the love and be part of a great new series!
Katie wrote: "☼♄Jülie wrote: "The article speaks volumes more about [whoever wrote it] and their small mindednesss than it does about anything else, and automatically disqualifies their opinions from serious consideration..."Thanks Katie, my mistake, I am correcting my posts.
Brenda wrote: ""Colleen McCullough, Australia's best-selling author, was a charmer," the obituary began. "Plain of feature, and certainly overweight, she was, nevertheless, a woman of wit and warmth. Would they have so much as considered writing something similar about Thomas Kenneally?
Brenda wrote: "But that's only your opinion Ryan..."Of course. My opinion is that if she's going to marry the World's Sexiest Actor it's reasonable that she can expect to be asked about her designer dress.

Emily can I suggest you make your own thread in the Author Spotlight section and pose your question there? https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... (top right hand side, "new topic") and go from there.
The reason being that your post will be lost in this thread as it's very active; no-one will see it by the end of today:) Make your own thread and it'll be seen all the time...
Good luck!

I almost couldn't believe that someone could write an obituary like that one. What century is this meant to be?
Leonie wrote: "I almost couldn't believe that someone could write an obituary like that one. What century is this meant to be?"
18th Leonie??
18th Leonie??
I found the Australian obit on line but can't see a writer attributed to it. It was in Thursday's Australian if anyone has a copy.

It certainly seems like it sometimes!
According to Crikey http://www.crikey.com.au/2015/01/30/w..., the obit was a prepared one written by someone who has himself since died. They say the Australian has refused to name him.Gets even worse doesn't it? That they couldn't even update ( or read?) an obit for a famous author?

Perhaps we can just say someone wrote it, it was approved by editors and ended up in everyone's faces!!! The Simon & Schuster obit and other excellent ones will be the ones that are hopefully remembered; and we can all remember Colleen McCullough with love and respect!

I have removed any references to individual persons in my posts, but some have been quoted and will have to be edited by the posters that quoted from them :(

Don't worry about anything else guys..it's already on the previous page :)

Carolyn wrote: "According to Crikey http://www.crikey.com.au/2015/01/30/w..., the obit was a prepared one written by someone who has himself since died..."Obviously an old dude. The world was a different place back in the day and those attitudes will only die as those holding them die.
Spent the whole night in the Melb airport awake...when you take into the "jump" into the next day I've been traveling for 3 days straight...urrrrgghhhh!Still don't see the fuss over the Singapore Sling though..except a nice brain numbing experience while up in the sky.
Oh i watched Gone Girl...i really, really enjoyed it. Also i watched When I Go To Sleep...creepy movie!! Now i will have to read the book n compare them all.

Carolyn wrote: "According to Crikey http://www.crikey.com.au/2015/01/30/w..., the obit was a prepared one written by someone who has himself since died..."It all just stinks of passing the buck. So easy to blame someone who now cannot defend himself whoever he is.
The point is, the Aust obviously left this obit online or on file somewhere to be used when CMcC died. They should have edited it beofre they saved it.

But it hasn't died because that attitude is out there now, forever online and record, for everyone to read. How embarrassing for our country's reputation.
Miss Marple actress Geraldine MacEwan dies 2nd Feb 2015 at 82: http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/t...Maybe The Aust should read this to see how a good obit is written.
B the BookAddict wrote: "But it hasn't died because that attitude is out there now, forever online and record, for everyone to read. As for our country's reputation, anyone blaming Australians for that obituary is no better than the people who blame all Muslims for terrorism. It's an ignorant generalisation.
Ryan wrote: "B the BookAddict wrote: "But it hasn't died because that attitude is out there now, forever online and record, for everyone to read. How embarrassing for our country's reputation."Just because it..."
Hmmm, those ignorant generalisations.
I suppose it is unfortunate that the newspaper is named 'The Australian', Julie. Think of the embarrassment to the reputations of those legally responsible for minors, had the obituary in question been published by The Guardian.
Give us a break Ryan - I haven't had coffee yet - can't ponder deep and meaningfuls without caffine :)

Well said, Bette.
I don't know whether to be horrified or proud that my 17 month old grand-daughter figured out how to share her mums videos on her smart phone with me. Video that my daughter took yesterday morning of the two kids watching a frilled necked Lizard being fed worms at the wild life park suddenly popped up in my photo album on my Iphone. I thought my daughter had sent it - and replied - as you do. And I get this text to say she hadn't sent it that little Miss must have. My daughter had let little Miss have access to her phone to watch the various video's filmed!!!I reckon it won't be long before I'll be able to ask the toddler for IT advice!
Okay...back hone n been in bed since..lol But yea, wide awake at 12:39am...I know why too..Argh, so yea might take a bit to juggle the time swap.

Hope it doesn't take too long to settle down and back into the "normal" way of life again :)

Great news about Peter Greste being released. Hopefully his two colleagues will be released soon too.
