I only read my first of Colleen McCullough's last year - her epic saga, The Thorn Birds - but really enjoyed it and am definitely planning to read more. Sad to think there will be no more of her works now...

I was shocked to hear about her death. Did not even know she was sick. I loved many of her books.

Very sad news about Colleen McCullogh; big woman, big books, big talent, HUGE loss.
Good morning Early Birds!

They're great Vicki. My favourite is the cow (have always loved cows) and Alan's woodwork is beautiful. You're a multi talented couple!

Poor old car Marianne. Sounds terminal! At least shopping for a new one will be fun.
That is sad news about Colleen McCullough. I 've only read The Thorn Birds ( pinched it from my Mum many years ago) but I enjoyed that very much and have been meaning to try her Rome series.

This was published in 2005 and for some reason they also sold it in the same year with different covers under the shortened title: Angel. Both titles of this same book have several different covers...just to confuse readers more.
Regina wrote: "Book publishers do tend to like doing that to us readers."They sure do Regina! I was tricked into reading it again years later because of that, but didn't mind even once I realized because I enjoyed it so much...both times :)
So first today, the car place tantalised me with the idea it might just need a new battery as it wasn't holding the charge and all these fancy electronics get iffy when the charge is low. So they put in a new battery, ran their analysis, all looked good, took it for a drive, same problem still. And $480 later.....Guess we will be car shopping next week!
Marianne wrote: "So first today, the car place tantalised me with the idea it might just need a new battery as it wasn't holding the charge and all these fancy electronics get iffy when the charge is low. Well, it's true they said last month it would soon need a new battery. But I'm sending hubby after them about the battery now, he's much better at that sort of thing (isn't this what men are for?). And part of the $480 was for the truck that took my car away. But, no, I am not impressed with this car dealership which has been getting all the service fees since I bought the car. We certainly won't be trading this car in for something else from them.
And I have to wonder if the $500 I spent last month was actually a waste as it fixed the problem, but only for a few weeks.
Sounds like you have been well and truly ripped off Marianne! Hope hubby can get some satisfaction...
Marianne, I would dispute the bill. They charged you a fee to repair it, which they didn't do (obviously), and then they had the audacity to charge you again when it still wasn't fixed. At the very least, I would be speaking with the dealer principal about why you won't be buying a vehicle from them. I imagine they will offer you the cost of (non)repair as a discount.I certainly would be unhappy about spending $1000 on nothing. You would've had more fun opening the car window and tossing the money out.

Awe crap!! I wanted this to read this on the way home but didn't know they gave it two names...i simply thought it wasn't on the kindle store....urgh!! Gunna have to wait until i am on wifi with the Kindle again.
So, I'm in the hotel for the night....this airport is confusing...i don't like it tbh...i prefer Dubai N that was larger..this is old n trying to be new but with a huge mix of confusion...then again the state I'm in probably doesn't help things either.
Good morning everyone, it's very windy down here this morning which is causing my internet connection to drop out every five minutes or so. Very annoying...
@ Vicki,I haven't actually paid anything yet.....well, last month's $500 is obviously gone, and we'll have to pay for the truck, but will be disputing the battery, for sure. As for the labour costs trying to find out what was wrong, it's hard to argue with that. My car is still there...
Marianne wrote: "As for the labour costs trying to find out what was wrong, it's hard to argue with that."Ahhh, yes, but they'd supposedly fixed it. Why should you be penalised because a mechanic couldn't correctly diagnose the problem?
Alan had a similar experience many moons ago with a Peugeot that kept surging. He had it fixed, but the fix was short-lived. He took it back and the mechanic spent ages getting to the bottom of it, all at no additional charge to Alan. I'm probably different to most people, but because I don't often know the skill level and experience of the person working on my car/computer/plumbing/whatever, I more often than not request a capped price or quote for diagnosis.
At the very least, you deserve a concession, especially as they've been servicing the car for 10 years. Put it this way, if you don't ask, you don't get. :) I hope it all works out in the end, Marianne, and you're not left too much out of pocket.

Vicki, I used to have a Peugeot that did that too!! Everyone thought I was nuts because it didn't happen when they drove it and it was scary...every now and then it would just take off! After many trips to the service place they finally took me seriously and got it sorted. I don't know what it was but it took me a long time to trust it....I loved that little car though :D
Marianne wrote: "And I have to wonder if the $500 I spent last month was actually a waste as it fixed the problem, but only for a few weeks."Sounds like you need to find another garage and service place Marianne for the new car.

Hope you get it all sorted out Marianne. You definitely shouldn't have to pay for a new battery if that didn't fix the problem.
