Thanks Carolyn! It looks OK on the forecast at the moment.

Never time to catch up on all the threads I find when I've been away!
Thanks Marianne, Michael and Suzanne. It's good to be back on GR, but I'm still a bit sad to be back in general, and missing the crew members I became friends with... And missing the sound of the ship moving through the ocean...

Sounds like you'd better get yourself a job on a cruise ship then Kathryn :)

Anyone from Sydney want to talk about how Sydney weather is better than Melbourne weather (as we bask in sunshine at the moment), lol:D Sorry guys, couldn't help myself there, lol.

Very funny Bette! It really is bucketing down this morning in Sydney - an awful day for kids to be starting back at school!

Oh happy anniversary for yesterday - have a wonderful weekend in Sydney
A man with a truck just took away my little car. And it's such awful weather I can't walk down to the PO Box, so I have to wait until hubby is ready to drive me down there. I'm not game to drive his big fancy car: with my luck some idiot will slide across a wet road into it and of course that will be my fault. How quickly we lose our independence!
Thanks, Sally, it was great! And to Ryan - uh, NO thank you to your suggestion of joining the navy!!
I could go work on a cruise ship, Brenda, but don't think I could handle their workload - they work 6 months straight, no days off!
What I did do on 2 occasions about 8 and 10 years ago, was go and offer my services on a hospital ship in Africa (with the organisation Mercy Ships - they provide free surgeries including tumour removals, cleft lips/palates, orthopaedics etc, as well as helping in other ways - with public health education and agriculture and assisting people to set up small businesses and so on), although it doesn't sail very often as it is docked for months at a time until they move on again to the next country. I could do that again, but as I would be paying my own way, I need to boost my savings again beforehand!

Me and that silly Ipad have a problem with that. It doesn't allow me to edit.Yes, I know everyone is probably sick of hearing about me and the I pad. I do like it really, just not when it won't let me do what I want. Oh well!
Carolyn wrote: "Very funny Bette! It really is bucketing down this morning in Sydney - an awful day for kids to be starting back at school!"
Funny, I wrote a post earlier which didn't come through for whatever reason, about how it was dull but not raining on the south coast and we had been for a walk this morning. That'll teach me to skite. Now it's bucketing down.LOL

That sounds like it was an incredible experience Kathryn. I have heard of the Mercy ships.

Oh Dale, how very annoying!
I can't help feeling there's something weird about your access to GR on the iPad because I use my iPad all the time and have no trouble editing when I connect to GR via the internet (Safari). I refuse to use the stupid app as you can't edit or link with it - are you sure you're not somehow using that as a default?

A cab to the PO Box Marianne? After all, it is very important!

I have no idea, Carolyn. All I know is it used to r do it last year and then suddenly one day it stopped doing all thos things.
I think perhaps you need to get someone to have a look at it for you Dale - it definitely should do all those things, so maybe it has a bug or something.
Yes, maybe I should take it into the Telstra shop next time I am in that way and see if they have any ideas.
Do you have any young people who could check it out? I know my 9 year old grandson is the one who showed us MANY things we didn't know about our iPad! His dad calls him an IT freak!!!
Yeah the latest generation are known as 'digital natives'. After playing with her mother's phone and iPad my two year old tries to swipe my kindle screen, even though it's not touch screen. She seems confused by the ancient technology.

I like this one Michael - have had it awhile now:)

Dale wrote: "Yes, maybe I should take it into the Telstra shop next time I am in that way and see if they have any ideas."You're better off asking a teenager Dale (or a 9 y old as Brenda suggested). A friend or neighbour's kid? They know all the ins and out of computers and tablets and will sort it out in no time!

Brenda wrote: "Do you have any young people who could check it out? I know my 9 year old grandson is the one who showed us MANY things we didn't know about our iPad! His dad calls him an IT freak!!!"My go to person is my daughters partner he is into all things IT - sometimes I ask my husband who is an IT Manager but he has to deal with stuff all day seems a bit unfair to ask him when he gets home.
They do start young nowadays - even Miss Lily my granddaughter at almost 18 months can turn an iPad on and find her talking moving picture books. She still loves sitting in a lap and having a story read to her the old fashioned way though !!!

Yes, it was an awesome experience, Dale. I think the Africa Mercy is in Madagascar at the moment. Hopefully I'll get back to the ship one of these days!
Dale, I think I know what might have happened....if you go right to the top left of your screen, on the goodreads bar there is a little magnifying glass and next to that three little horizontal lines with the latest number of posts? Press on those three lines (careful of big fingers) and a grey pull down menu will appear, "my profile", "my books" etc. go down to "switch to desktop" and press on that. It should change your view to Safari Desktop view. If that works let me know and I will tell you how it went wrong so if it happens again you will know why.Ps; if you can't find those at the top left of your screen then I got it wrong :(
Sally906 wrote: "Brenda wrote: "Do you have any young people who could check it out? I know my 9 year old grandson is the one who showed us MANY things we didn't know about our iPad! His dad calls him an IT freak!!..."Hopefully kids will always love having stories read to them from an actual book!
☼♄Jülie wrote: "Dale, I think I know what might have happened....if you go right to the top left of your screen, on the goodreads bar there is a little magnifying glass and next to that three little vertical lines..."Eureka! Clever person Julie. Thank you and thanks to all the rest of you who have been so patient and understanding with this non techo person's fumblings and frustrations.
YaY!!!! Excellent. See I'm just a big kid Dale ;)So now if you go right to the bottom right hand side of this page, you will see where it says in small but bold print: switch to: mobile version. Sometimes we accidentally press that and it switches it...I have done this, and the first time it happened it took me ages to figure it out. That easy! You just have to be careful not to press that, but if you do its no biggy now because you know how to fix it ;)

Woo Hoo - give the lady a medal!
Jools is now officially our go to person with IT problems that are Goodreads related - Yaaaaaay!!!
Congratulations Jools!!!! Well done Dale as well! You realize now Dale - no more boo boos from you;) lol
Lol, Dale's message 19957 is what rang a bell for me...it used to work and then suddenly it didn't anymore...I recognized that situation. ;)
Carolyn wrote: "Laura wrote: "It's just cold here most of the time."Are you still in Italy Laura? Has it been snowing?"
Not been snowing where i am but we're pretty close to the alps that we get coolness from them. And yeah still there.

Eureka Jools!
Didn't think of that although I have accidently done it too (mini iPad, big fingers!) but have always just switched back to desktop as you describe. Closing all the windows and reconnecting seems to work as well.
Well, that's got Dale sorted. Any more IT problems for Jools? :D
