The cricket ended up being a disaster because of the weather! Haven't heard if they called it off, but the guys gave up...waited for well over an hour for a decision to be made, with the rain coming down in bucket loads! We've just had Indian for dinner at the on-site restaurant and our son has left to drive back to Newcastle. We leave in the morning!
Disappointing but it's the truth - the weather is something no-one can control:)
I had a wonderful day of reading:)

I hope your trip home wont be so wet...its crazy that its been so unbearably hot all week and tonight is actually a bit cold :|
After hitting 36 or whatever it was in Sydney yesterday I landed in Melbourne last night in my shorts and t-shirt to 12 degrees with a breeze.

Lammies are simply the bestest!
Some people should have a license to own a dog. I was out walking my dog this morning when a dog that was over at the park on the opposite of the road came racing across the road (main busy road) barking and growling at my dog. The owner was calling it back which was doing no good. In the meantime I'm trying to shoo it away from mine and eventually it runs back across to its owner. I stood and stared at the owner and he yells out to me he won't bite you. I reply - best to keep it on a lead and he replies by swearing at me and telling me to go home. I reply it was your dog that nearly got hit not mine and he replies with more colourful words. Charming fellow. No reply from me as you can't talk to dead wood or idiots. Rant over now it's time for a cuppa :)
Yeah "he won't bite you" isn't good enough. If it's bothering other dogs it should be restrained. And nobody wants to have to trust the word of a stranger that the apparently menacing dog isn't menacing.
Idiots say that to me too. "Don't worry - he won't bite" To which I reply "Really! Well mine will."

You just reminded me of a funny experience i had when making lammies.
At the time i had a ginger cat called Rusty (rip) and I'd taken just taken the cake out of the oven to cool...It was sitting there for 10 mins or so as i started to wash up I didn't think to cover it from my cat!!
I turn around to do something to SPY Rusty eating the cake, i caught him mid chomp and he dropped it when i saw him! He managed to eat a good chunk off the edge of it too!! I was horrified and highly amused all at once.

Sorry for those who got the rain earlier and spoiled their plans.
Sharon wrote: "Some people should have a license to own a dog. I was out walking my dog this morning when a dog that was over at the park on the opposite of the road came racing across the road (main busy road) b..."Don't blame you for your rant Bette. People like that drive me crazy too.
Ryan wrote: "Yeah "he won't bite you" isn't good enough. If it's bothering other dogs it should be restrained. And nobody wants to have to trust the word of a stranger that the apparently menacing dog isn't men..."Yes exactly, Ryan.
Phrynne wrote: "Idiots say that to me too. "Don't worry - he won't bite" To which I reply "Really! Well mine will.""I'll have to remember that one for next time, Phrynne. Of course I hope there's not a next time :)
Brenda wrote: "The cricket ended up being a disaster because of the weather! Haven't heard if they called it off, but the guys gave up...waited for well over an hour for a decision to be made, with the rain comin..."Oh dear - sorry their day of cricket was spoiled.
Safe trip back this morning

I'm sorry those dogs are not in control of their owner. By the way the walking tracks near our house are on a coastal reserve and dogs are suppose to be on a lead.
Sharon wrote: "Some people should have a license to own a dog. I was out walking my dog this morning when a dog that was over at the park on the opposite of the road came racing across the road (main busy road) b..."Apart from scaring owners and other dogs, even if they are harmless, dogs off the leash can scare kids. One of my boys was freaked out by a big dog off the leash who came racing towards him in a park when he was only two. He'd been perfectly comfortable with dogs before that but for years afterwards would have a screaming fit whenever he saw a dog, even if it was on a leash. Made going for a walk or to the park very difficult!

Sharon that was frustrating for you! What a moron...it's people like him who are the owners of dogs who DO bite - when children get mauled!

Thanks Sally:) Home again now...nothing to keep us there - totally poured all the way home. Loads of traffic on the other side of the freeway heading into Sydney. Not much on our side fortunately. Home by 10, unpacked and having a cuppa!
Not quite the Aussie Day we had planned, but nothing anyone can do about the weather!

People like that really annoy me, especially (some not all) people with small dogs who let there dogs run free because "they are small, they cant hurt anyone" & the little yappy things come charging up to my large dogs (who are on leads) barking, growling & trying to nip at them & the owners think its funny because its so much smaller than my dogs & "its obviously not going to hurt them" No, probably not but what happens if my dogs decide to do the same back to your angry little thing??? Probably wouldnt be quite so funny anymore.
and thats the end of my rant LOL

I have had a BAD day. The rain was horrendous and it flooded inside and got the carpet wet. I spent three hours mopping up and now have every towel I possess soaking wet with no way to get them dry:(

Is this at work or at home Phrynne? Either way not good! The rain has been awful...we left Sydney first thing - nothing to keep us there:(
Good luck getting everything dry...

Check them every half hour and replace with a wet one as soon as they're dry.
But I know how you feel. Such a pain in the bum, compounded by miserable weather outside. But try and look on the bright side - the Socceroos are playing tonight and I have beer.
I have been on a cruise to New Zealand for the past 14 days which was a wonderful experience. I may have cried as I said goodbye to my dining room waiter this morning - I hate goodbyes!!! I managed to hold it all together at dinner last night, but didn't expect to be speaking to him again this morning! I can thoroughly recommend Princess Cruises. And now I'm back and checking GR (instead of unpacking and putting on a load of laundry). Despite the fact that I checked GR a little when I had access to NZ's free wi-fi, there are still hundreds of new comments on some of the threads - I don't think I'll be able to go back and catch up properly!
Brenda wrote: "And my son and grandson are going Ryan! And it's pouring!"That's dedication! I hope they have dry towels and beer.
Looking on the bright side I am sitting down, dinner is in the oven and I have my book and a glass of wine. What wet towels???

Had my car (Citroen C3 with paddle gears) repaired (first major fault in 10 years) last month. $500. It was occasionally dropping out of gear when stopped in traffic: had to turn off & restart motor. This arvo coming home, started doing the same thing again, but EVERY time I slowed down to a stop. Trust me, this was no fun and a bit scary in traffic! The Citroen people are coming to get it tomorrow with a truck or something, I'm not game to drive it like that.
I think we're going car shopping on the weekend....
but I might have to get the train to work this week.
I plan on hanging them outside and bringing them in when they eventually dry. My mother calls it giving them a heavenly rinse.

We just had to upgrade before Christmas, it's a big thing buying a new car, brand new or not. Good luck, hope you can find something.

That sounds no good Phrynne. Enjoy the wine and book and dinner and try and forget about the rest. Easier said than done, I know.

That sounds worrisome Marianne! Definitely scary, especially if you also had rain! Good luck with your car shopping:)
