Lol! That's what's known as Ocker parlance Sarah....and NOT how we generally speak! ;)
We are going to BBQ some lamb chops and sausages while the boys have a few cold beers, and the girls will have some wine and/or champagne ;D as well as lots of other goodies and laughs.

Yeah it is hot here in BNE, too. I hate it, I hate it! It makes me so irritable and very uncomfortable. I thrive in the cold and tend to shut down in the heat.
I'm in Sydney for the weekend visiting the siblings. Back to Melbourne tonight and glad to get away from this heat but it was also pretty hot in Melbourne the day before I left. The forecast looks good though.
Went to the movies today to escape the heat. Saw The Imitation Game. It was excellent, although the ending is sad.
They said 32 here today. Beautiful for swimming at the beach then Dh and I sat under shady trees and read, chatted and marvelled at how beautiful this place is.

Wow that's great!!!
Wow that's great!!!
I agree with you, Leonie. After all, what do sportspeople really contribute to the country? A few might have charities, for sure. But not many.
So, my Aussie day will be spent in the sweltering heat of a big tin shed and it'll probably be insanely busy. Think of the money, Kiera, think of the money!

My Dad got his first Aust Day award for services to the textile industry (back in early 80s), can't remember what the other one was but it definitely wasn't for sport, lol. I think he got one of the British awards as well, (he had dual citizenship).
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!!!45 years ago today I first set foot on Australian soil and have never left.
Mind you mum and dad had to drag me kicking and screaming all the way here - at 13 I was leaving everything I held dear for the great unknown. But it all quickly changed because as soon as I turned 18 I became an Australian - much to my parents horror as they felt I was betraying the motherland :)
I realised I finally belonged - from the age of 6 months I had been dragged from pillar to post - even within the same country we didn't settle in the one town very long.
And even better I realised Australia was so glad for my arrival that they had a public holiday to celebrate on Jaunary 26th every year!! How cool is that!
Oh I let the government call it Australia Day - but in my family it is know as Sally's Day and already both of my kids have texted to say happy Sally's day :)
Anyhow, whatever your race, whatever your faith, be proud you're Australian and celebrate the fact that we are living in a country where we might all squabble among ourselves but when push comes to shove we all muck in to help each other out

HAPPY SALLY'S DAY SALLY!! So glad you decided to stay ;D
You are a genuine example of the lovely coloured fabric that makes up this woderful patchwork nation that we are so lucky to be a part of.

Happy Sally's Day!!(Well after some really hot and extremely humid weather, I am thoroughly enjoying this cool, overcast and sprinkle weather. Can you tell our family wasn't planning on heading out? Wine and cheese at home for us, while the kids trash the house!)
We're loving the cool, overcast, slightly damp weather here too. Just had some bruschetta and smoked salmon and cream cheese for lunch. About to make my first batch of lamingtons ever. The sponge cake is cooked and in the freezer prior to cutting, just the chocolate bit to make now.
And Goodreads spell check cannot cope with the word lamingtons...wanted to change it to laminations!

Haha! Uneducated those US people Leonie;)
Your lunch sounds delicious and I haven't had lamingtons in a very long time! Good luck with the final result - I bet they'll be delicious:)

Good luck Leonie! The trick is to get most of the chocolate and coconut on the sponge and not on you!

Have managed to get most of the chocolate on the lamingtons, have drowned them in coconut and am now just waiting for everything to set properly. Then we'll whip up some cream and see how it all tastes. :)

YUM!

YUM!
We had a lovely quiet day today - ham and cheese croissants for breakfast, Vietnamese salad for lunch lamingtons (not homemade) with jam and cream for afternoon tea and we're having braised lamb shanks for tea. I think that covers our multicultural culture French croissants with australian ham and Swiss cheese, Vietnamese salad, Aussie lamb for tea - Lamingtons are Aussie - then bread and butter pudding as a nod to my british heritage.
"...I am, you are, we're all Australian..."
it is nice to get some rain but very disappointing for our local council who have organised a huge Australia Day celebration with barbecue, rides, concert, performances and fireworks. It has still gone ahead but the rain has kept a lot of people away. Not sure if fireworks will be still on.
This one Uncle Adolf looks like fun: Wollongong-born author, set on the South Coast of NSW. I have asked my library to order it in.....
